monthly subscription for a mattress cover is one of the maddest things I've heard in a long time
@WayneGoss10 ай бұрын
I was lucky enough to receive one free. The first few days were amazing. It was really cold. Then that coldness started to dissipate. Then the unit started to make a noise. A loud noice. The company replaced the unit - but the noice persisted. Meaning it was probably an issue with the mattress cover. In the end I stopped. The app was free also, and now you need a subscription. When it worked it was beautiful. You'll also notice an increase in energy bills as these things aren't cheap to run for 8 plus hours a day.

Hey James. I've been using the eight sleep for 5 years now. The thing I hate the most about travel now, is I won't have an eight sleep while I'm away. Couple tips for you. Try using a one of the different temperature scales. -10 to 10 is 20 stops of temperature. The Celsius scale goes from 13c to 44c, or 31 stops of temperature. I'm Canadian, so I hate using fahrenheit, but that goes from 55f to 110f or 55 stops of temperature. I found with the 1-10 scale sometimes 1 unit the difference of too cold of too hot. Also, I learned a trick I love. Ever have a day where you just can not fall asleep. Your brain is chewing on an argument you had, or the stress of a situation you're dealing with. Well, my brain kinda does that every night in bed. So, I set my temperature to 55f (-10c) every single night. I get into bed, and after 5 or 10 minutes, I'm freezing. All my brain can think about is how cold I am. I go as long as I can stand, then I open the app and warm the bed to 75f - ish. (-2). Takes 3 or 4 minutes to start warming up, but it's like my brain can only focus on the extreme cold. Then suddenly I'm asleep because as it warms, my brain goes, "this is getting better..." and I fall asleep. When I first bought the Eight Sleep, my average time to fall asleep was as high as 2 hours. I'm down to an average of 15 minutes.

I don't realise how much I like it and how good it is until I sleep away from home and I am hot, then cold, then sweaty, then cold, then hot, then sweaty..... I'm autopilot: -1, -2, 0, +2, and very low vibration alarm (+ eye mask + mouth tape + sunrise alarm clock) Total dream! It took a few weeks to get the settings right and find the right way to use it, (a few noise issues at the start too but customer support was very helpful to sort!) now wouldn't be without it. Great review! I immediately thought, well I bet it's cheaper heating the mattress than heating the whole room. And maybe cheaper in the summer to cool it down than using one of those portable A/C units, which I loathe. Not sure about all that, but if I'm wrong, I'll just stick with using a hot water bottle when going to sleep, and a fan in the summer. The app should be cheaper though. Any way to use it without the app? I don't need numbers, I'd just go by feel. But likely you have to use the app even to set it up.

You're entertaining informative and inspiring James thank you. But I can't agree with the recommendation of a 2,5k matress when we have our extremities that are little heat exchangers so if you need to cool down peak a cheeky extremity out of the duvet -- a foot, a hand maybe both hey -- and you'll get the required cooling. Having more devices that suck your mind out of your eye holes has its own downsides. And it looks like you would have gotten those great sleep scores anyway (good luck in July lol) proving that if you're already sleeping well this will make a minimum difference. And if you dont sleep well there are a pethora of free things you can try that should be tried before spending money. Do wanna emphasize though: thank you for the great and entertaining video.

As I adjusted it throughout the 2 weeks to get it to a comfortable level, I ended up bringing it to nearly a neutral temperature, which was where my mattress was in the first place. Because of the price, that slight marginal change wasn't worth it to me, and I began to wonder if everything is just a gimmick. When your kid arrives, im curious for your tales of how you think and feel about the whole experience from birth to trying to get to grips with being a dad. After speaking to a number of fellow fathers the feelings of sheer inadequacy are quite common along us when it comes to providing for your kid in the early months, especially if they're breastfed. Its literally the best and worst thing a person can do. You'll hate it and question your life choices, but when you walk into the room and your kid smiles at you, it makes it all worth it.
