Who is following the Wes Huff craziness in terms of KZbin viewers? And what do you think? Is it much ado about nothing, or is it important to get our facts straight on the text of the Bible of all things--given our growing recent cultural manifestations of very fundamentalist assumptions that opposed to indisputable facts. I hope to talk to Wes in the future, if he would like to do so. NOT debate, but discuss...we will have to see. I am sure we agree on some things but clearly disagree on others...but who is to say that his mind is closed?

Where did the Catholic Church get the Old Testament the used to create and canonize the 73 book Bible in 382? If the codex you are referring to is from 1000? Where did the earlier material originate. Since I cannot read the original texts can I trust the translations? Given some Christian bibles like the NIV have had words changed to change the meaning. This popped up while eating lunch and I will have to get back to it later. Finally 18 minutes in I have learned nothing.

I have taken Dr. Tabor’s DSS course and am enrolled in his Paul course. I would highly recommend them for anyone interested in the Bible, Jesus and the actual history. I saw Wes Huff’s take down of Billy Carson when it first came out. Billy Carson had it coming it was way overdue he did it to himself, however I found that Wes Huff’s presentation to be apologetic and parts were inaccurate. There is a lot of interpolation and scribal interpretations done through normal entropy in the bible, the early church movement and the Jesus movement, that doesn’t align with the apologetic viewpoint. I have that DSS Bible and I find significant differences with our modern bible as well as numerous other manuscript translations. Dr. Tabor’s teachings, are excellent, you can get the truth without loosing your faith.

@The whole journey has strengthened my faith and understanding, although I can see where you’re coming from, one could easily loose it during these times, even the elect are deceived. When we seek, we find, don’t stop seeking . No matter what has been done to scripture by man, the underlying message is unchanged, the Bible contains encoding with deeper messages. I found my way through “The Pistis Sophia” (Askew Codex)and Gnosis, it reinforces the Bible, expands teachings into astrophysics, demystifies the resurrection and our place in the universe. Chuck Missler got it directly from the 66 and his respected career in the Sciences, he showed me things long ago and it is related to Jesus’s discourse in the PS, ties into Norm Bergram’s work with the Ringmakers , Robert Temple and Wal Thornhill’s work, current events, the metacosmos, the structure of the Light Kingdoms and the Ineffable space of the Inheritance. Dr. Tabors work adds to it because he brings detailed historical truth and doesn’t try to sway you. This world is not what we think and we are not of this world.

I heard a scholar say he thought John the Baptist was referring to this teaching of more than one Messiah when he sent his followers to question Jesus. He knew Jesus was the Suffering Messiah - The Lamb of God - but do they look for another or was Jesus THE ONÉ & ONLY. Jesus answered by saying he was doing what the Conquering Messiah was supposed to do - lame walk, blind see, etc - so it was just Him. He was everything. They had no concept of the resurrection & were looking for a warrior as the Conquering Messiah, which wasn't what Jesus was. So this answer made them accept by faith that, somehow, Jesus would fulfill both roles. This definitely makes John's questions sound more reasonable & not due to a lack of faith! ❤️

I have always wondered why scholars call the Masoretic text from the Leningrad codex the oldest. I thought the Septuagint, compiled by Ptolemy around 250 BC+/-, which was what the New Testament writers and early Christian's read was a translation that used the oldest known copies of ancient Hebrew manuscripts.

@@dunk_law Great insight. What I understand from my studies into the origins of the Semitic faith's is that the different eschatological views about Jesus Christ can usually be traced back to a point where there is either a transliteration problem in the texts we use or an intentional deception that has become a believed truth from spirits in the lower heavens have managed to plant a seed of doubt. Unfortunately, in my circle of believers and the body of Christ, most do not believe in eternal life through Jesus Christ by entering into the Kingdom of Heaven through Him today. The majority believe heaven is a destination and we must die first to experience it or be involved in a fallacy. I sometimes do come across someone here on KZbin in the comment section who takes the time that does have great insights and a thought provoking spirit that helps me along to better understand the Kingdom of the heavens in which we live today, and are transitioning into, but many if not most cannot see it. Stuck in tradition and dogma. It's sad. But not all are asleep in the Spirit! And the 2nd coming does not and did not occur as the 1st. Thank you!

Major Differences Textual Variants Spelling and Grammar: DSS often use older forms or alternative spellings (e.g., "YHWH" vs. "Adonai"). Words and Phrases: Some passages in the DSS have additional words or phrases, while others are shorter compared to the MT. Example: Psalm 145 in the DSS includes a missing acrostic verse (verse 13b) not found in the MT but present in the Septuagint. Order and Structure Book Arrangements: DSS sometimes have different book orders or sections of text placed differently. For example, Jeremiah in the DSS is shorter and ordered differently than in the MT. Psalms: The DSS have variations in the order of the Psalms and include some psalms not found in the MT. Theological Emphases DSS reflect a variety of Jewish sectarian views (e.g., apocalyptic and messianic ideas). Some texts differ theologically, while the MT is more uniform, likely reflecting rabbinic standardization. Example: Isaiah in the DSS has minor theological differences that reflect pre-standardized views. Non-Masoretic Alignments Many DSS align more closely with the Septuagint (Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible) or Samaritan Pentateuch than the MT. Example: Deuteronomy in the DSS sometimes mirrors Samaritan Pentateuch theological perspectives, like emphasizing Mount Gerizim. Additions and Omissions DSS sometimes include expansions or omits sections found in the MT. For instance, 1 Samuel 17-18 (the David and Goliath narrative) in the DSS is shorter than the MT. Vocalization and Cantillation The MT is heavily vocalized with vowel points and cantillation marks (added by the Masoretes). DSS lacks this, using only consonantal text. Implications Historical Context: DSS show the Hebrew Bible was fluid and diverse before standardization. Accuracy and Translation: The MT is precise due to scribal care, but DSS can offer insights into older traditions and help correct or clarify textual ambiguities. Scholarly Use: Modern Bible translations (e.g., NRSV) often incorporate DSS readings to refine the text. The DSS reveal how the Hebrew Bible evolved over centuries, highlighting the MT as a late, refined tradition rather than the only representation of the biblical text.

The DSS often agree with the Masoretic Text against the Septuagint and the New Testament quotations. I find that phenomenon to be extremely interesting.
@sentinaludo1489
@sentinaludo1489 3 күн бұрын
The differences are intriguing aren't they. I tend to view it like this: The Septuagint was compiled around 250-300 BC. It is what the New Testament writers and early Christian's were likely using as their text. The Masoretic text was compiled in the 8th-9th century AD by likely Jesuit monks of the Catholic "religion". Stories change over time, as evidenced by the archetypal themes the ancient Hebrew scribes and religious leaders used that have striking similarities to stories that come from civilizations that are older than the Semitic traditions we hold as the revealed truth of God's revelation to humanity through the ages and times. Which is why I believe we have such a crisis of faith as we do in the world and in the west in which I live. This I believe: That Jesus Christ was and is the Messiah promised who came from God. He was crucified for His Revelation, He was resurrected, and He returned to bring an end of the age upon Israel as a covenantal judgement upon the people with whom the covenant was made with. The kingdom of the heavens are still at hand and entrance into them right now is made through the door (or Thura) of Jesus Christ. It is in and through the Spirit that this occurs, and until that realization dawns upon every follower of Jesus Christ and the world, Satan still will have influence over their lives until they do die. "But they who live by believing in Me shall live. Even if they do die, yet shall they live again." John 11:25 I know, because I do, and I AM. Book of Udo Transition of Ages

I think the answer to your question is that many of the DSS were written after the crucifixion but before the destruction of the Temple that Jesus prophesied with the 'sign of Jonah'. The Catholic Church has gone through extreme lengths to control the narrative of the DSS. We know the disciples and Jesus used the Septuagint because when quoting scripture in Psalms, the divisions (numbering) of them are offset in the Pistis Sophia; along with quotes from the Odes of Solomon in the Septuagint that were omitted.
@sentinaludo1489
@sentinaludo1489 3 күн бұрын
@@mattandkim17 I think there is an issue of "narrative control" for sure through institutional Church, and the many different denominations that are vocations for people as a business rather than a calling from God to walk in the Kingdom of the heavens with and in Jesus Christ for eternity. And bringing the power of God to life through a resurrected and reigning savior rather than showing a form of godliness and worshipping a crucified savior, hoping for the fulfillment of a dispesational/futuristic eschatology taught by sincere souls, but spiritual infants still drinking the milk of the Word of God. All the while expecting to be whisked away in man created schema called the rapture instead of relying upon what Jesus Christ has already done. And that is : Reuniting what was once seperated by a divine incursion into this dimension by beings from the heavens that offered humanity a path of separation from God, IF they only worshipped them.

I'm so glad this was reuploaded and that I watched it again! What I now think is the most important part of this video I completely overlooked the first time. 1) Titus brought the scrolls from the temple back to Rome after 70CE, all the treasures were displayed, but not the scrolls. 2) Rabbinical Judaism (the Pharisees) disgustingly declared Vespasian and Titus as the 2 messiahs! and 3) I've learned of Marcion's journey to Rome, with a single gospel attached to 10 Pauline Epistles, around 140CE, and am, currently, of the belief that redactors such as Iraneus, Eusebius and Polycarp were compiling, editing and rearranging (the now cannonical) texts well into the second century CE. Let's assume that Joshua ben Joseph was an historical figure (and not an embodied Roman cautionary tale to the Apocalyptic Messianic Jews of the time, that said FAAFO, which they did in 135CE) 40 years after his crucifixion, there would have been few, if any, people who knew him personally or his teachings first hand, the Herodians, the Flavians and the nascent Roman Catholic Church could put in his mouth anything that they wanted him to say, and no one would know any different. Jesus honestly seems schizophrenic to us today, since we can read, for ourselves, all of the books in the new testament (instead of seeing enacted passion plays or hearing single verses as part of the Liturgy, as they did in antiquity) did he say "turn the other cheek?" Or "sell all of your belongings and buy a sword"? And what's especially poignant, is that since they knew what was in the scriptures of the first century Jews, they could make Jesus (just like they did with Paul) say to break or abolish the Law, and become peaceable servants of the Roman Empire! Just like they did in "TG according to Mark," where all of the Jews (but also even his 12 most trusted disciples) were too stupid to figure out who he was, but a Roman Centurion groked it no problem. And its the same in the 2 examples that Dr. Tabor gave at the end of this lecture. If you're walking and get hungry, grab and eat some grain, so you don't starve, duh! Or if you see a pig stuck in a hole, doesn’t matter the day of the week, pull it out so you can have a BLT after its later been butchered, duh! Completely eye opening stuff!

I like that passage in the beginning of Deuteronomy 5. Moses makes a point of saying how the covenant was with them, not their fathers, and that they are all alive today. Echoing a sentiment found both in the Dead Sea Scrolls and the New Testament. Thou dost protest too much, Moses! Also how the Lord spoke with the people face to face, err, except he didn't, because they were afraid, so Moses had to go up there himself and relay the message. Funny how 2,000+ years later you can still read the traces of the sock puppet.

I think it important to hold the title to being a scholar to standards of qualifications and not just give the ownership of being a scholar, based on ones support or following of those who agree with the topic that a person is stating.

I just dont see how people can play a game telephone as a kid and still believe that something is unaltered letter for letter when humans and translations and thousands of years have been involved. Its not like God has come down and corrected it we can see medieval copies where lines were skipped or doubled up that has to have happened thousands of times in the hand copying just by accident or mistranslation much of the orignal can be missed. Like if you translate things like puns into french they dont work unless you use different words but in a highly symbolic text thst changes the meaning I can get if you believe in god thinking he could keep it perfect, but humans have been the ones controlling it for thousands of years

😂Sure let’s just avoid the one big huge elephant in the room here…Septuagint Isaiah 9:6 “6For a child is born to us, and a son is given to us, whose government is upon his shoulder: and his name is called the Messenger of great counsel: for I will bring peace upon the princes, and health to him.” So where did they get mighty god and father from? And why would they add that in later?

The Septuagent of the Written Torah, the 5 books of Moses, was actually done at the beginning of Ptolemy II's reign when he was co-regent with his father around 275 bce. And was known with its very accurate translation except for 15 total intentional mistranslations that were done so that concepts in Greek philosophy at odds with Jewish philosophy would not be miscontrued by the Greeks who would study the text in the Alexandrian Great Library. But at least for the 5 Books of Moses, there are only these 15 differences between the two. Tractate Megillah 9a of the Talmud discusses all this in detail including the 15 intentional variances and THE REASONS FOR THE VARIANCES! What is NOT in the Talmud is a discussion of how the other Greek translations were made later on for the other books of the Hebrew/ Aramaic Bible. So they are likely "non-official" translations of the prophetic parts of the Bible while the Torah was an "official" translation of either 70 or 72 sages (6 from each tribe). The other Greek translations possibly should not be called Septuagint because there is no evidence that they were done by 70 or 72 sages. Who knows how the prophetic Hebrew books of the Bible were even translated into Greek?

57:38 Wes mentioned this in his Joe Rogan interview. Interesting juxtaposition between Jesus and the qumran community. "You have heard it said you shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy". My jewish friend replies to me "nobody ever said hate your enemy". Apparently the qumran community actually did say that So did jesus study with or spend some time with these people to learn this? Maybe Jesus dabbled in cult life when he was younger and trying to find woodstock

The differences between the Messianic Zealot group that produced the DSS -- i.e. those who said that if an animal fell into a pit on the sabbath you should NOT help it out -- and the supposed Jesus followers who advocated the exact OPPOSITE regarding this rule, comes about because the New Testament was written by Roman propagandists who thought that the religious sensibilities of the pious Jews were absurd . . . so they created the Christian religion, with its fictional 'messiah'/Christ, and put words into his mouth to the effect that he is portrayed as a PRO-ROMAN messiah who continually lambasts the Jews. The Romans had to fight a war to quell the zealot rebellion against Roman domination of Judea, a war that was fueled by religious zealot fanaticism, a movement led by nonconformist Jews who selected their own leaders -- both King and Priest, a 'David'-like warlord (think Goliath's killer) and a righteous teacher [a 'zaddik'] who would perform the Torah-mandated rituals on the proper days (as their Jubilees calendar called for), as opposed to how the compromised priesthood beholden to the Romans conducted the business of the state religion. A 'messiah' is -- by definition -- CHOSEN by the people, and 'anointed' by their equally anointed High Priest. A 'messiah' from the Zealot group's view didn't come down from Heaven like a caped superhero; he was the best man for the job dwelling amongst them, someone whom they believed they could trust to lead them the way their purist religion demanded of them. The Flavian propagandists whose Emperor had to fight a war against these core ideas and ideals of Jewish Messianism sought to DESTROY that popular movement, and they did so by inventing a SPOOF of it, with the fictional Jesus as a 'messiah' who advocated from the perspective of the Roman point-of-view. The Romans felt it was only common sense to help an animal out of a pit that it had fallen into -- and that the fanatics who slavishly followed a 'divine' Commandment NOT to do the sensible thing were, in reality, somehow going against the real Will of God. Christianity is a SPOOF of the Jewish Messianic movement, an absurdist parody. Compare the account Josephus gives of the 'Cannibal Mary' passage in WAR OF THE JEWS -- which takes place on the Passover during the siege of Jerusalem -- with the gospel accounts of the 'Last Supper', which also was a Passover ceremony (Jesus telling his Disciples that they must EAT HIS FLESH and DRINK HIS BLOOD or they will have no life in them. That 'eucharist' ceremony, substituting Bread and Wine for his Flesh and Blood, is a wicked satire -- a sick joke -- of the horrific cannibalism that the starving Jews resorted to in 70 CE. The Christian bible's 'take' on the Old Testament is to pretend that everything in it points to Jesus, twisting verses out of context in order to 'prove' that Jesus fulfilled all the messianic expectations. And the Romans who created this bogus manner of interpretation of Hebrew scripture undoubtedly felt justified in so distorting the 'original intent' of the scriptures' original authors because the zealots themselves were not above re-interpreting non-prophetic passages from scripture AS IF they were prophetic -- witness the bogus interpretations in the pesher texts. From the Roman point-of-view, the fanatical Jews were crazy, allowing their illegitimate 'interpretations' of sacred texts to serve as catalysts for their anti-Roman violence. By creating a NEW scripture, the Romans could one-up the crazy Jews by presenting a sensible 'messiah' whose views were more in line with Roman sensibilities than with the pious Zealots whose rebellion brought Roman power down upon them, destroying their world (Jerusalem and the Temple) in a veritable apocalypse. The Flavian Emperors are mockingly laughing at the Christians who still believe in the religion that they created as a spoof of messianic Judaism. Every time a Christian reverently eats a Eucharist wafer and sips from a wine chalice, they are commemorating the cannibalism that 'Mary' had to resort to according to Josephus's account.

I'm very disappointed that none of Genesis 11 : 10-24 has survived. Though one wonders if they weren't hidden or purposely destroyed. These would indicate whether the timeline after the flood was corrupted in the Hebrew to try to make Melchizedek be Shem to deny that Jesus was a priest as the book of Hebrews states.

Scholars have pointed out that the "Suffering Servant" in Isaiah 53 is the exiled Israel of 52:13. It is interesting that this servant Israel suffers for the sin of the nations similar to Paul's Jesus Christ. In 4 Maccabees 17:21-22, the Jewish martyrs or Saints suffer for the sin of the Jewish nation so that God will deliver them from their enemies. One might ask if the Dead Sea Scroll sect saw their Teacher of Righteousness suffering for the sin of the Jewish nation (his people), but Paul then reverted this back to Jesus suffering for the sin of the nations, similar to Isaiah 53?

As a disenchanted Mormon, I know how LDS Church is committed to a Bible that has been significantly changed. Joseph Smith made major revisions to Isaiah. I don't think any of them are corroborated by the Isaiah Scroll. The Book of Mormon (1st Nephi chapter 13:24-28) says: "plain and precious parts" were removed from the Bible by the "Great and abominable Church, a likely reference to the Catholic Church, although most current LDS dismiss that for obvious reasons.

So, you don't think that the two messiah's were John the Baptist and Jesus? Aside from that, I think the most scandalous difference that you mentioned was the one in Deut.. I noticed this years ago, and included a reference in a video when I didn't know of anyone else who noticed it. I say it is "scandalous" because it supports the notion, among other verses in the O.T., that YHVH was among the "Sons of God" who "came down" and divided up the area into segments that each one would rule over. It smacks of EXTRATERRESTRIALS, who come upon Earth at a time when men are primitive, and think that E.T.s are GODS. They even abduct some of the women (according to Gen. 6), who then give birth to "giants" aka Nephilim. YHVH "created" Adam and Eve, a species that would be infused with his DNA, thereby making them his "children". It may have been done through sex, or it could have been done "immaculately" through genetic manipulation, in the same way that Jesus was fathered and as the ancient Sumerian texts also suggest.

While the Dead Sea scrolls are interesting, it isn't as interesting as the fact that the laws of Moses didn't exist in the time of the Elephantine Jews (495 BC), evidenced by the fact that they had a Temple that was being reconsecrated outside of Jerusalem, sold Jewish slaves, they also were not monotheist. The fact that they are not monotheistic should not come as a surprise, because the Queen of Heaven is also mentioned in the Bible and it's stated that King David, Solomon and all of the other Kings (up until around the time of the Babylonian captivity) also had no knowledge of Moses' laws as they were also polytheist.

"Dead Sea Scrolls Bible and our Traditional Old Testament" - not the best title I would propose for an analysis of writings around 2000 years ago. The scrolls did not constitute a canon let alone an anachronistic bible. Not sure what "our" means in this context. The "old testament" (another anachronism) was not a bible it was the law (and - depending who you ask - prophets and writings).

The Essenes were friends with Jesus and John. They were mostly Zadokites separated out from the schism of Onias IV from the rule of Judea and cousins of John and Jesus (John's mother and Mary's mother were both descended from Onias IV). They knew the Messiah was coming. The Hasmoneans lied to the people about the Messiah and when killed the Essenes at times.

Wrong! Hebrew was not dead. It was used as a liturgical and scriptural language. Jews still read the Bible in Hebrew and prayed in Hebrew. And they even write in Hebrew in the 1100s, Yehuda ha Levi was writing poetry in Hebrew. It is pretty much establish that all the Dead Sea scrolls really were written by Jews in the first and second centuries. You have no idea what you are talking about

It's my understanding, that Jesus did return 40 yrs after. In first century writings from many different people such as Josephus, Eusebius, etc etc... many wrote about Jesus coming in the clouds, Israel being destroyed, dead were raised and so on. I've found that all throughout the bible, many things occur on a smaller scale & then again on a larger or world wide scale. Example, Jonah died in belly of whale 3 days, then was brought back to give message of repentance to a city & then later Jesus dies 3 days & rose again to give us a message of repentance & his gospel to save us all. I think when He returns again, soon, it's the BIG end. The last perhaps? Just sumn I'm rolling around in my head. But I believe Jesus did fulfill all He said.

You make a click bait title: "Top Ten Differences in the Dead Sea scrolls......" You better get down to showing those differences before you start 30 minutes of faith killing claims without real examples. More than half way through your presentation and I have yet to see and hear the first of those differences, so I have determined that what you are actually trying to do is render void any current version of Isaiah, and gain advertising revenue with a long drawn out dialog. So 30 minutes of faith killing rhetoric is enough. Congratulation you are officially declared an expert, on broad statements and no examples to prove your point. Well you've got the science right. The science of negative propaganda. I hope that all the university professors and scholars around the globe are better at sticking to the facts, instead of useless babble.
