I just bought one of these and sent it down the Patowatami trail in MI. It survived some pretty brutal drops, rocks, and roots. I almost wiped out twice but that's because I sent it a little too hard while it was wet out lol. Definitely recommend it to people looking to get in to the mtb scene!

The Talon frame in my opinion is very versatile, depending on the components you put at it you can definitely go rowdy with it on the trails or load it up with bags for a bikepacking adventure cause it has provisions for racks. It's non-tapered yes, but so are others in its price range and besides you can easily buy a headset adaptor to fit newer tapered forks on it.

I have one of these and I put 600 hard, trail miles on it over the course of 3 years and it performed flawlessly. I just recently handed it down to my wife when I decided to upgrade to a different bike. I’d highly recommend the Talon 4 though.

I don't think many people understand the quality difference between the frame and parts on this bike versus a Wal-Mart bike. Just looking at the specs and geo, the Wal-Mart bike may look like a better deal for the price, but there's a huge difference in quality. Not to mention the support you get from a bike shop and the piece of mind knowing that it was assembled properly. And this isn't only a mountain bike. Many of the customers for this bike will likely use it just for riding around town instead of on the trail.

@mewenglandskier1316: You brought up a good point. I just took a look at the Walmart Ozark Trail 29. Right away, I noticed that the rear triangle on the Ozark doesn’t leave much room for larger tires. This Giant Talon 4, by comparison, looks as though it has plenty of room for upgrading tires.

I’m glad to finally learn what kind of bike I have after owning it for at least 3 years and never getting an instruction manual from where I bought it. Hopefully I’ll be able to clean up my bike and learn more so I can add/mod it

I got a 2022 Talon 3 27.5" as my first "real" bike. I wanted a hybrid, but it was the only known brand that I knew at the time... and what I could find in my area. With a change to slicker tires and a butterfly handlebar, it rides pretty sweet for my needs (fitness and long-distance road rides). If you guys can afford it, it's definitely a stepup from Talon 4 just for the Shimano drivetrain, extra gear, and future upgrade potential. I'm a bit neutral with the hydraulic brakes since I don't want to deal with bleeding the brakes and I'd prefer the mechanical brakes just for that, but I do appreciate the hydraulic brakes when I did my first rainy ride.

What I think about it depends on the price. This bike offers little room for upgrades with that rear freewheel and not tapered head tube. I feel like some Walmart bikes surpass this.
@Jamesthebikeguy3 жыл бұрын
I would still lean this way for a beginner as the person buying this is unlikely to want to upgrade or such. This is about functionality, assembled properly, and of course ease of ownership.
@RobertWilliams-ox4hz3 жыл бұрын
@@Jamesthebikeguy I understand, but for less money you can get similar features. Then again you do get bike shop set-up. I don't know. These name brands need to step up their entry level bikes now since Walmart bikes are offering the same or similar specs for less.

Would recommend the Talon 4 or Trek Marlin 5?
@mtbboy19933 жыл бұрын
Awful fork, drivetrain, the rear derailleur had the wire secured by a nut which is a bad idea, as most don't have a socket with them, but a multitool, they should have went with Hex bolt, but nice looking frame. Welds look decent

Schwinn and Mongoose are going full Tapered Headtube. There's really no excuse for these "budget" Main company bikes are still using ancient tech.

What happened to your scale? Yes this is a starter bike. However the benefit of this one compared to a Walmart one will be Giant’s quality and the assembly and support of a local bike shop. Well worth it.

So, a Wal-Mart bike, but durable. Nice bike, or crack pipe? I say crack pipe. You can get trail worthy bike for a couple hundred more. Or, you can get a wayyy better commuter. The target market is parents who want a bike like the one they had in the nineties and do not know better. I like some of the specs for the price but not the géo. Disc brakes is a very nice spec. Mechanical disc brakes don’t get enough respect. Colour is nice.
