When you say give way if there’s someone on the right does that include them approaching the junction going onto the roundabout and waiting at the junction to your right? I’ve had my license for 3 years as from what I remember if you approach and there’s someone on the right who’s driving toward the exit to the right you stop n let them join on as they have priority? I went towards a 3 exit mini round about today the car to my right was just sat there doing nothing as it was a learner so I just sat there n waited and then the car towards me on the left 3rd exit decides to wait. Now we’re alI sat there doing nothing, I didn’t want to move incase the leaner figures out he had right of way n goes through my door, n the guy to my life didn’t want to go for the same reason. We were all sat there a good 30-45s before I decided to move. In this situation who would you say was in the wrong?

Everyone gave way to their right at the same time and the roundabout comes to a stop. Someone has to make the first move to get the first traffic flowing.

I’ve got a good question. Like like how you said you give way to vehicles on your right and vehicles ahead that are turning right. If I go at a mini roundabout and the vehicle ahead is not signalling right but then it suddendly does as I got straight on, will I fail my test for that?

A lot would depend on each situation. If the car on the right entered the roundabout before you then signalled and you forced them to stop, then yes.

In my area some mini roundabouts are a bit bigger and I have problems with managing my pedals on these roundabouts. If you have to stop at gear 1 and then increase speed while you are on the roundabout, should I raise the clutch fully or increase the gas while you are still on the clutch biting point?

hi travis when you approach the roundabout and your bringing the clutch back up slowly after changing to second, should your foot still be pressing on the break at all, or just hovering over it incase you need to press it? i struggle changing down gears i find the car jolts forward and i don’t know when to let go of the break

Jolts are usually caused by the car going to fast for the gear selection, bringing up the clutch slower would help. Keep the brake on whilst changing gear if it’s needed to slow more.

This is a gem of a video just found your channel and I am loving it❤ I have a question ,if a mini roundabout has two lanes on approach and there is a left turn 1st exist and a 12 o'clock straight ahead exist but no right turn exit which lane should you be in to exist on the 12 o'clock straight is it the left turn or right turn ?

Hi, your videos are great. At mini round about, when first and second exit is straight ahead then we don’t signal? We only signal on right at mini rounds about when second exit is more then 12o clock? Can you please clarify this. I am PDI in MK.TIA

Have you tried commentating on your driving whilst you drive. I often ask my students to talk to themselves out loud. It does two things, one you are telling yourself what to do and the other your instructor will be able to spot any missing bits you're driving.

If you're still required to give way to the right to cars even before they are on the roundabout then what purpose does the roundabout serve? Might as well have a normal junction.

The purpose of the mini roundabout is to help the traffic flow. Depending on how far traffic is on your right would depend on you giving way. If you can safely enter roundabout without causing the traffic on your right to slow, then proceed.

@@JamesTravis If that's the case what is the point of the roundabout? We have a classic case in Shepton. A minor road crossed a wide main road so to help priority a miniroundabout was installed. But cars still tear down the main road expecting to scoot across the miniroundabout at 30 mph. So it's get out of the way or else. My argument is that if I'm on the roundabout first I have priority - and the guy charging down on me from the right can gesticulate and flash his lights whatever - he doesn't have automatic priority - if he did what's the point of the mini? If I can't come out if he has to "slow" (in your words) then might as well have left matters as they were. If he's approaching a miniroundabout he should automatically be slowing. If there are queues at both roads one lot seem to think they have permament priority. But my view is we alternate - and I push out to take my slot particularly if I arrived at the roundaboat long before some latecomer in the other queue.

I'm alarmed at just how many car drivers still do NOT signal when at roundabouts. I cycle a lot and I always give arm/hand signals when at roundabouts. That's being a very good and competant cyclist. But a lot of car drivers seem to need to take more lessons when they are on the road.

It should be noted you keep saying give way to your right but that only applies if they are also turning right. If a car on your right is turning left there is no reason to be stopping on the roundabout
