I agree these guys get away with jokes others couldn't. I think the reason it works here is that unlike most other 'sitcom' type shows they don't try to make you feel sympathetic to the characters. It's clear that they are terrible people and the show doesn't treat them as if they aren't.

Yeah Rob said it best by saying the comedians that complain about that stuff just are not talented enough or are too lazy to wrote anything fresh, new, or good. They wanna ride old material for their entire careers. It's Always Sunny proves comedy is not dead.

Yeah I think it’s partly because it’s both outrageous and… believable. The types of things people really say or the attitudes they hold that they don’t say. But not in a self-justifying way which a lot of shows or jokes do, or even in a self-conscious attempt at “shock.”

I mean really, they better figured what to do with all the characters as they went on, but Mac and Dee definitely are the ones that are the least developed at this point.

I personally have no problem with highly offensive jokes, if the goal of the joke is to make people laugh. Doesn't matter if it lands or not, without a joke bombing you don't get jokes that land. When offensive jokes become a problem is when the goal of the joke is to be offensive, so you get a cheap laugh. This show nails that line, and it's unfortunate people no longer see that nuance. And that goes for either side of the argument, it's not woke to criticise shitty offensive jokes, and it's not racist,sexist, whateverist to make offensive jokes if the goal is making people laugh.

Well said about the show’s taste and not punching down, though if you listen to their podcast where they go through episode by episode they express some regret about the way they handled some issues in these earlier seasons. But I think it’s pretty normal to look back at your sense of humor and your politics from earlier in your life and cringe a bit. You’re not growing if you don’t. And I still think these first couple seasons hold up really well! Just wait until you get into later seasons, though. Believe it or not, this season is pretty tame, and it’s not nearly as funny as it will be in a few seasons.

You don't know exactly where that red door is because this is filmed in California. The bar is located in California. Only a few scenes from the show and the intro theme are filmed in Philadelphia, you can stop the 24/7 cap, it isn't adding to the reaction at all, its quite annoying hearing you say you know a place 24/7, especially when its a lie 75% of the time.
