@@JamesVSCinema Alex Vincent’s (Andy) acting during the scene when he’s locked in his room, calling out for help and crying is always a standout moment in this movie for me. I don’t have any kids, but man it is heartbreaking watching that kid cry like that.

It was probably best the series took on a lighter tone, watching a child act like he's genuinely getting traumatized wouldn't make these films nearly as fun

The reason Chucky is by far my favorite slasher franchise is that it's all been written by the same guy through the entire run (Don Mancini), and he's genuinely taken it to some bizarre places. There's camp, satire, classic horror throwback, straight comedy, and legit creepy haunted house mystery stuff in this franchise. The climax to number 2 is insane and gnarly, and the puppetwork throughout is legit incredible. Even the weaker entries still have something fun going on.

What makes this movie great is the build up to the violent active, talking doll. Everything until then is more like the infamous Twilight Zone episode with the ventriloquist doll. If you haven't seen that episode of the original Twilight Zone, its called The Dummy, and it heavily influenced the first half of Child's Play.

I'm one of these who was traumatized by Child's Play as a kid thanks to a neighborhood friend who was a few years older than me. I was only 7 whereas he was 11. His older sister would babysit us and she wasn't a great babysitter as we would watch any movies that they had. They had a lot of horror movies. This began my experience of horror movies in which I watched films like Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Hellraiser as well as several others to name some. I fell in love with Horror movies as a kid. My parents had no idea at all. Not until Child's Play. I didn't know what kind of horror movie I was going to watch and during this movie, I didn't finish it. Instead, I cried and ran back home across the street. My parents found out quite quickly. I was so terrified of Chucky that I even threw my younger brother's life sized dolls into the basement where I rarely went. I refused to go into Spencers at the Mall because they always had Chucky dolls. I also even avoided the horror section at Blockbuster simply because I did not want to accidentally see the cover of Chucky. That's how traumatized I was, and yet, I was fine watching other horror movies. I really grew up on a lot of other horror movies. It wasn't until around 7 years later or so, when I was just entering high school, that I finally got over it by watching the movie. It can be a goofy movie and I ended up loving it. Went on to watching all other Chucky movies, haha. Wild memories. Many years of nightmares. Love Chucky now, though.

And I was freaked the hell out because I had zero context so I thought i was watching some kid looking being burning and melting and saying creepy shit. It was my first encounter with the fear of the unknown and it has stuck with me permanently.

Saw this movie when I was younger and it scared the hell out of me! I learned to love the films and the TV series based on the film franchise. Originally, Steven Spielberg was going to direct the film, but turned down as he was too busy working on Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade. Tom Holland was hired after Spielberg was impressed by the horror comedy Fright Night. William Friedkin, Howard Franklin, Robert Wise, Robert Aldrich, Rocky Morton and Annabel Jenkel, Irvin Kershner, and Jack Clayton were considered for directing.

I watched this when I was 7 bc I was at a cousins sleepover and the older kids made fun of me screaming at the TV when normal methods to kill him don't work. THEN had to sleepover at their TOTALLY unfamiliar 3 storey gothic house right after the movie that I was totally unfamiliar with (and it was filled with toys lol)... This huge 3 story house with a creepy basement and the bedroom I stayed in also had a walk in closet that had been modified to be big enough to fit a desk for homework so you could literally close yourself in the closet and no one would know... Needless to say, had some TERRIFYING nightmares that night for all these reasons (and my scared of the dark phase as well at the time). So I've HATED Childs Play and Chuckie and ANY millionth version of the movie that has continued him to NOT JUST EFFING DIE for my entire life lol. I do recognise they did a good job with the horror comedy elements... just- it wasn't for a 7 year old already petrified of the dark, sleeping in a strange 3 storey house with a million entrances for a small alive doll to easily manoever through.

The chucky franchise is awesome. The same actors and crew have stuck with it for decades, and you can see the love that goes into it. Even the bad movies have their moments. Chucky has this weird quality where he’s both hilarious and super messed up, similar to Englund’s Freddy I suppose but it really works with him being this killer doll. He’s both creepy where he’s this uncanny valley doll who’s super fucked up but also the premise of this foul mouthed killer Beanie Baby is just kind of hilarious.

They did eventually after years of devotion to this which is my favorite thing about the franchise. It helps to distinguish it and per entry from it's slasher film counterparts. So more seeing them complete their achievement and picturing the pride they must feel about Chucky. I like it when the underdogs win.
