The ACCA numbered their exams (F1, F2, F3 etc.) as their recommended order. They then realised few followed the recommendation, so they updated the syllabus and abbreviated all the exams using only letters. It also helps with grouping by topic area - as well as looks more like textspeak. Two recommendations that might help: 1. Sit AA at the same time or in the next exam sitting after FR. FR covers the accounting rules and ratios needed by auditors. 2. Make your first strategic exam the same as your last applied skills exam (e.g. If PM is your last applied skills exam, then make your first strategic exam APM, or if you intend to study AAA then make AA your last applied skills exam). One reason for the low pass rates is the gap between exam sittings. ACCA publishes global pass rates, but it would be interesting to see pass rates by country. I read that one reason the AA/AAA exams had the lowest global pass rates was that they required the most command of written English, and English is a second language for most international ACCA students. The ACA audit exams have much higher pass rates, and they are mostly sat by people whose mother tongue is English. Maybe with AI, people will be able to sit AA/AAA in any language in the future and we may then see the pass rates go up. It’d be interesting to see the UK/Ireland pass rates compared to non-English speaking countries.

Very thorough and articulate explanation, James. I have a question, though: is there any value in stopping at Level I or II? In other words, are there any jobs that require just those levels without necessarily going all the way? Also, do you receive any certifiate/diploma after completing each level? I'm asking all these questions because I want to be aware of my options. Thanks in advance for your help!

My provider is a bit tricky. It's a platinum provider but joining in August, I can't register for any of the applied knowledge papers or the variants. In Ireland (IRL) they only offer the LW and TX papers in June, so I'm basically forced to choose from the other four papers to start. I was pretty upset by that so I went to a second provider to work on the knowledge papers in the two months i have before term begins just to try and knock one of those papers out before i start. I will do my best to use the second provider to do those three as they are on demand cbe's, and use the first provider to do the available four. I'll be starting with PM and FM from August to February while sitting BT on the side. Nothing I can do about it so I'm not going to cry about it. Wish I could have sat them in order but I understand the college has to follow acca rules to keep their status at the end of the day. Hope this helps anyone else in Ireland sitting 2022+.😅 On the plus side, I got registered in about four days by a lovely guy in Glasgow; I was delighted!
