In his book "Guns, bullets, and gunfights" Jim Cirillo talked about the same thing. How any time he, his partners, or guys on the Stakeout Unit shot someone, they were always eager to see the autopsy and poke around to examine the effectiveness of their bullets. It creeped out the morticians, who dubbed Jim and his friends "the ghouls." If you wanna learn good stuff about revolvers, Jim's books are excellent.

Serious question. If hollow points are so unreliable in their expansion (and I'm agreeing with you that they are) why hasn't something like the Lehigh Defense extreme defender gotten more traction? Again, just off of gelatin tests for comparison, I've seen them deliver consistent penetration with good temp and permanent wound cavities in the gel, again in comparison to hollow points. Thanks in advance for the info.

Totally agree...I've done some "testing" on deer..and most bullets do not perform as advertised..I've had federal .308 hunting rounds just blow straight through an animal. Believe it or not..the best one I've seen through my 30.06 was Remington corelock...dumps all energy on impact and can usually find the bullet. Some however just hit bone and explode into many pieces. As you said..shot placement is everything. ✌
@jacobmccandles17673 жыл бұрын
There is no 30-06 or .308 150gr - 180gr classic cup-n-core bullet that will fail to perform if placed in a deer's vitals from more or less broadside. I have tested this over 170 times, and the results have not varied.

James you are right and wrong. Gel doesn't always prove and you are correct on that. Where you are wrong is believing coroner's reports. Sure you can look at this but scientifically the rounds sold the most are always going to show up. It's a unintentional bias. Of course the round that is most sold is always going to be the most affective just because of the numbers so that alone makes a coroner's report invalid as far as it being a fact. But to be honest there is no good way to prove one round being better and you kind of admit that and kudos to you for saying it. If it was possible, and you were able to analyze different rounds used by the military and see which ones expanded the best then perhaps one would get good valid scientific results.
