I absolutely love this song! In this song he refers to his old tailgunner Johnny McGee. My daddy’s name was Johnny McGee. Every time I hear this song I think of my daddy.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm only 2 generations removed from sharecroppers. Both my maternal and paternal grandparents were sharecroppers. Later in life, they got jobs in the Texas oilfields which was maybe better than sharecropping, but still very hard work. For people who lived through the depression, work was a blessing.

My child(due date Feb 2) will only see a handful of old black and white pictures that survived over the years. It's so crazy to recall my childhood looking through old photo albums of our family in the late 80s-mid 90s. Actual photographs stuck under plastic. Blurry and beautiful. All lost to time and storage issues. Now if we take a bad picture we know instantly. We used to take our film rolls to a Kodak shop for development. I took a photography class in 1999, darkroom, chemicals, don't let light hit the film or it's fucked forever..... Now everything is digital and preserved. It's saturated too. We no longer live in those moments. I fear what we are preserving isn't capturing that feeling of living in the moment. We take pics all day long and selfies that are lost in the mountains of Instagram. ...can we just put it down for a minute. Right after we- .......SMASH that sub button for 👆

I Grew up on Country Music and I Love your reactions and Love you!!! Great Job... I grew up on a Ranch and we didn't have electricity or running water, 5 of us lived in a two room house with kerosene lamps and a wood burning stove. We used Horses to pull a wagon to feed the cattle. We finally got electricity when I was about 10, It was a hard life but looking back, it was a great life, I'm 64 now and so glad I was raised the way I was!!!!!!! God Bless You...

Man, this song should remind all of you who are still lucky enough to have your grandparents around, go talk to them and ask them to tell you about the "good old days" because once they are gone those stories are also gone forever.

This is one of my all time favorite songs because I do remember my grandparents stories about the great depression, living in a rural southern town, and stories and photos of my grandfather and great uncles in WWII. Those generations paid our dues to be able to have a little but of a better life today and I always try to remember that I go throughout my life. Your reactions are always so great. I always love your comments. Keep on spreading the love of music! Oh and speaking of small rural town, Alan Jackson has a song Small Town Southern Man. If you haven't already, give it a listen.

His Grandfather was a WW II pilot during the war. The bombers had two people in the plane and the person in the backseat would turn his seat and fire at enemy planes coming up from behind them. Hence, "He had my back".

pictures were once only taken at special occasions or planned events because of the costs: film, flash, film development etc.. plus old cameras were size of a microwave oven so cameras werent available 24/7 and remember the disappointment when you picked up your photo aft @ 3days to find most were over exposed, out of focus, off center, what changes the phone has brought us❤

We certainly do have it easy here stateside but history suggests that can change quickly due to inevitable consequences of fiscal and monetary recklessness, among other things. People will rise to the occasion if they have to...because they will have no choice. Best of luck with your new channel Tasha. I predict success 😉

You would be amazed by what you might be able to go through when there is no option. You will learn or lose and you have to do it pretty quick. The world is making noises like we might be headed back to those days. Nothing like a worldwide shutdown to set us up for catastrophic failure. My parents didn't save every plastic and glass container with a lid, bits of string, twist ties, etc because they were loony. They saved it because they had each lived through a 8 to 10 year span in their young adulthood when those basic supplies were not available and when they were the average person could not afford them. I hope we dodge it this time.
