Saw Tony Joe White in 1969 at the Texas International Music Festival with just a drummer backing him. He tore the place up. Brook Benton also does an outstanding rendition…probably the most known version. This is sweet…..no matter who does it, the song gives a sense of a pleasant melancholy feeling…..everything’s going to be all right!

My late father was in hospice at home and I used to play his favorite songs as he fell asleep. This was the last song he listened to before he passed. He had grown up in Albany, Georgia. I miss you daddy. Rest easy.

I don't think those fans know how awesome that just was, Brooks Bennett won a grammy in 1970 for best male vocals, and sounded amazing, other big artist have done the song, but J.J.'s voice is so strong , there's no orchestra , just a man's voice 'and his : guitar

Chills. As much as I love Brooke Benton’s cover and TJW’s arrangement, this one touches my soul. I had the chance to interview JJ right before he blew up. He was so nice and we ended up chatting about Townes Van Zandt’s songs. He was lovely. Wish him all the best, always.

It wasn't actually Brook Benton's song but he did record it. It was written by Tony Joe White and that's the reason for the dedication in the intro by Jamey Johnson. Barely one month after this version was recorded Tony Joe White passed away on October 24th. ..........."I believe that it's raining all over the world"

Stephen Brown, Thank you for pointing that out. Jamey Johnson wrote the song about writing songs, so he knows to give the songwriter credit right up front. It annoys me how few people do that, and how many talk about a song being "by" the artists who perform them, rather than the ones who create them in the first place. Wish I had the talent to do that.
@j.rollinsbrunson36716 жыл бұрын
If you liked this, you owe it to yourself to hear Tony Joe White's (who wrote it as a teenager) version !! He closes his eyes and tells you what he was feeling the night he wrote it ! Even his harmonica near the end conveys more emotion than any other version !

As long as it is a great artist this song never fails to hold up. I have several different favorite versions I can think of off the top of my head:. Hank Jr, Conway & Sam Moore, Joe Diffee (who also sang it with Sam Moore for a Conway tribute), and obviously Brook Benton and the writer Tony Joe White
