What a voice! Incredible talent. There was a LOT more to this man than 'Poke Salad Annie'......

The blues is written from the heart. This blues song comes from the heart of a man missing his woman, blues from a lonely heart. TJ White wrote the song, Brooke Benton made it famous, TJ put his heart and soul into the performance. I still get chills when I listen to it. Thank you, TJ White.

This song was originally recorded and released by him in 1969. It was laid out differently, but it was non-the less great! This 1980 live version is nothing short of perfection.

I realize he wrote this fabulous song but the way Brook Benton sang it took it to another level. Just like Glen Campbell did the same with Gentle On My Mind. Respect to the songwriters but certain people are just born to sing certain songs.

The late Tony Joe White would have been 76 today-i got his first album,1969's Black and White when it came out-his biggest hit,Polk Salad Annie, was on it-it went to #8 on Billboard. He wrote it and this one also.Haven't listened to him in years-i just learned that he died last year. When he sings those low notes,i get goosebumps.I'd forgotten how great he was.R.I.P.,Tony.

You know, in the video, Merle Haggard said he felt Tony was lazy because Tony would not tour with him. That really made me angry when I saw that. Tony had talent Merle could only dream of. Plus, maybe Tony had more discipline to not spend so much time drunk or otherwise messed up like Merle did. I appreciate Merle......but, Tony was on a much higher level as a musician/performer. Merle depended on redneck-hillbilly flimflam to make his mark. There was and remains a HUGE difference.
