Can’t believe how many people are saying it’s a missed opportunity as if England would automatically make the final because it’s Morocco…they’ve beaten Belgium, Spain and Portugal and also drew with Croatia and kept a clean sheet in all those games with only an OG conceded all World Cup! To say it’s a missed opportunity is so disrespectful to Morocco who aren’t in the semis by luck, they’ve 100% earned their place there

There was a period in the second half where France were there for the taking and the only player who seemed to recognize it was Henderson. He was the only one pressing up high, chasing after the ball, exhorting his teammates to do the same during that period, but it seems like Southgate was issuing instructions to stay deep. Henderson was visibly frustrated at the hesitancy to go after France.

We have to recognise that Southgate's in-game management and use of substitutes is consistently poor in the big games. His pragmatism is good in group stages and against lesser opposition - and he's built a good squad vibe - but he just doesn't affect the big games. The top coaches know how to make that one in-game decision that affects the game, swings tight games, gets a goal, etc. Southgate just doesn't do this. He had France on the ropes for the taking at 60 minutes then took of our main threat (Saka) then resorted back to his out of form favourites (Sterling and Mount). Bizarrely, Sterling hadn't trained all week either. He brings on Rashford and Grealish far to late to affect the game - then leaves the top assist-maker and best goal-scoring number 10 (TAA and Maddison) on the bench. When we need that one killer pass - or free-kick even - we didn't have the top players on the pitch. His insistence on Maguire ended up costing England too - as he was done on Giroud's winner as well as the Iran goals. Nice guy but we just won't get over the line with Southgate - and failed ex-England pros need to stop protecting him just because they lost under better managers. A better manager makes that one tactical decision to affect the game - which Southgate never does. Once again a tournament opens up for us and we go out against the first decent team. Look what Morocco have done with a lesser team but better management.

You have to stop dawning on the past. How does historical failure feature in England's inability to win today? We haven't been recycling the same players for the last 60 years. We have had variable amounts of talent and varying quality of managers. Every tournament is it's own individual failure, rather than a track record featuring the same elements that caused England to go out. As soon as people recognise that history has nothing to do with it, and focus on what we have now, we'll get fairer commentary on England as opposed to the usual nonsense where someone talks about how sad they are that England haven't won anything for 60 years and someone else laughs about how it isn't coming home.

Of course their best chances came from penalties, that's invariably any team's best chance to score... This doesn't detract from the fact that it took a few quality saves from Lloris and chances that skimmed just wide. Off the top of my head - Kane's 1 on 1, Maguire's header, Rashford's freekick and both Bellingham's and Kane's strikes that force good saves from Lloris. You'll be hard pressed to make a better showing against France. Factor that in with France's poor footballing IQ in this game, England should be disappointed that they didn't get the job done.

@Anonymous-xr8hx
@Anonymous-xr8hx Жыл бұрын
Because Kane scored one previously in the game and aside from the second penalty played really well throughout the game. England as a whole dominated the game and were playing good football throughout the tournament. Kane's also played well for years. It means fans are more likely to be sympathetic towards him and not critical. In the Euros it was at the end of a game where after going up initially England sat back and let Italy get themselves back into the game. They were winning games but not playing good football like this World Cup so it didn't have the same positive energy surrounding the team. Then in the context of the shootout when it seemed like England were going out Pickford saved Jorginho's penalty and gave them a chance to get back into the game. This was immediately squandered by yet another miss. It went from low to high and back to low. The save gave fans false hope. So the reaction wasn't sympathy it was anger. Anger that we'd been given a second chance and it was blown. Btw none of that excuses racism by some fans after the Euros final. I'm a brown England fan myself and found it disgusting. But it was also the loud minority not the majority. What I'm referring to is the different reactions to the players themselves (why people were angry at the players who missed in the Euros shootout but sympathetic towards Kane). Hopefully the context helps you understand that (it has very little to do with Kane being white if that was your original insinustion).

We haven’t beaten a top top team in knockout football besides a below-par German side in the Euros (didn’t get out of their WC group either). We can thank Gareth for his service of getting us playing slightly better football and getting us to a Quarter, Semi and a Final (obviously fantastic) but also realise that maybe his time is up and we need a better manager than can turn us into killers with a win-at-all-costs mentality like, for example, Croatia.

i agree only with poor nations do England sometimes attack again and often when they are winning like they did when they won 6-2 against iran but as soon as they come up against a quality team they do the classic "we dont need to score were winning now" thing. Theyll also just waste opportunities by getting up to the opponents 18 yard box and not shooting or crossing or chipping the ball in the box instead they'll just pass it backwards then come back up again and lose the ball so they may as well have tried a shot or a cross earlier on anyway= wasted.

What are you on about. How is a pundit or the media - just random people - being complacent telling of the attitude of the players and manager. Every interview of actual England players and managers shows that they are humble and respectful of the opposition. They don't want to get complacent but they don't want to give the opposition too much respect. Its the perfect attitude to have. And England played really really well throughout the tournament. I can't believe people find a way to hate. It was a close game with France - England dominated but the French were more clinical and came out on top in the end. The ref also clearly played a part and there's absolutely no denying that. It's not the reason they lost but it is the reason the game didn't go to extra time and the result could've ended up going England's way. Either way they played well and they were respectful of the opposition. Far more respectful than some of the other better teams in this tournament - like Brazil dancing after every goal or the Netherlands unsportsmanlike behaviour in the penalty shootout or Argentina's petty and unsympathetic celebrations after winning. England always get shat on by all the other fanbases in the world. It's hypocritical and gets borderline xenophobic at times. There's this constant agenda by people online trying to find a way to criticise England. They played well and lost why's there a need to say "this is why they'll never win anything."

Your team played no one until now and the minute they came up against a half decent team, missing 3 of their star players, you wilted. You had the weakest group and played poor teams until now. Your team is weak. Your manager is a joke. All four of the semi finalists are better than England. The least you lot could do is acknowledge that and congratulate them for reaching the semi finals.
@Anonymous-xr8hx

@@shawnberry6110 congratulate the better team on winning? Nah. No thanks. Saka fouled. The French defender didn't touch the ball at any point with his foot yet came out with possession and Saka was on the ground. It was an undeniable foul. The French then catch the England players in transition after the obvious foul wasn't given. No England player touches the ball before it ends up in the net. Not only should the goal not have counted but England should've had a free kick in a dangerous area. Then Kane gets brought down when he's charging into the box. Penalty or free kick right outside the area it doesn't matter. Point is he was undeniably fouled when he was in a good position and wasn't compensated with a set piece. Instead the game went on like nothing happened and idiots like you pretend it doesn't matter. All these things swing the game in favour of France. Its incompetence at best, corruption at worst. And given that the ref somehow didn't give the second pen and had to be told to go to the monitor by VAR I'm leaning towards the second. England dominated the game. My team was better on the night and I'm proud of them. Your team was more clinical which kept them in it but it should've gone to extra time at least. I'd rather my team goes out honourably than win by cheating. And the cheek of you to criticise me and my fans for being angry about it. And then pretending like we haven't been one of the strongest teams in the tournament so far. I give credit when it's deserved. And the result last night wasn't deserved. I hope France get what's coming to them. Morocco have performed above and beyond what people expected of them and I hope they get through to the finals since they actually won their semi final fairly.

Many of Morrocon players play at a decent level, they are technically gifted even more so then many top footballers, and on top if that not being as wealthy as other national teams it's no suppose they are in the semis. Gap is closing, has for a while. It proves if u put talent from the likes of Morrocco in top leagues they can even outclass Europeans and South Americans. Same with Asian teams like Japan, they are a technically better then many western football nations, it'd just that money and discrimination comes in the way.. .Lastly each game Morrocco played brilliantly as other teams didn't even have much chances.

Biggest mistake was saying in your media that Lloris was done, same way Spain treated Zidane in 2006 WC ... if you wish a very experienced player to be on top of his game to prove you wrong, I would not do it another way!!! Then other mistakes: - Focusing so much attention on Mbappe, who basically played smart not trying to prove he is faster and fall on the English trap (though he still beat walker in the only sprint they had in second half) - Subbing the best English player Saka, I still don't get it... was he injured or what? - Being too emotional regarding to Referee decisions. He was indeed bad, but of course any referee who is pressured will try to resist it ... - I respect Kane, he played very well yesterday but come on if you believe you are World Champs material, then you don't miss a key penalty in such an important game (I don t say it s easy but if you are really great, you don t miss, you are like Zidane scoring a panenka to the best goal keeper of the last 40 years in a WC final). - Arriving in the quarter Finals with no yellow cards show that the team lacks of aggressivity, exactly what England seemed to miss during the game against France... - Pretty much looking down on France saying you are a better team, well France is missing 5 key players, so you can imagine how motivated those players filling the gap were to prove you wrong! They Day England will approach the game with real humility, England should win a major tournament!

it wasn't back and forth to be honest. The Germany Spain match was a much better game to watch. Play three at the back, have two wide players with a midfield three either of two holding players or another two box-to-box players, then leave Kane all alone as a target man. But their confidence was warranted?.. We can only play what's in front of us. But do tell me another group that had all 4 teams ranked in the top 20? We arguably had the hardest group based solely on rankings. Then the AFCON champs (not 38th ranked Australia)... We had scored the most goals and conceded the least.

Jamie is wrong France played better than England through out the full 90 mins. England may have had some big spells in the 2nd half but so did France and they scored 2 proper goals. England didnt score any outfield goal they just relied on 2 penalties and missed 1 that says it all. England actually caused france harm with crosses in the box but they never capitalized on it by played many crosses especially in the 1st half they would attack on the right soon as they got close to the 18 yard box they got tackled soo many times. Also cant understand why Kane didnt hit the 2nd penalty low and hard to the left or right since its more difficult for the goalkeeper to save with his legs than his hands. England players just seem too nervous in worldcup matches and put scoring a equalizing goal on a pedistool where other countries like morocco just go out out there and do it.

I'm not proud of them at all and the future does not look bright. Why should I be proud of a bunch of bottlejobs who do this every tournament? As per usual, when England face a proper test, they bottle it. The only saving grace now is that at least we're bottling it against great teams now instead of against crap like Iceland and Costa Rica. The last 3 tournaments have had the same theme as we usually see with England. 2018 World Cup was winnable matches up until the semi against Croatia, which we bottled 2-1. Euros last year, we had winnable matches up until the final, against Italy, we bottled it on penalties. World Cup this year, bottle it in QF against France. We've bottled it in the last 3 tournaments at the first sign of true adversity. It's partly the manager and partly the players, Southgate didn't make quick enough subs and wasn't adaptable or brave against France, so we lost. Kane was at fault because he bottled the pen, Maguire and Stones became a circus act for the second France goal and we wasted too many chances. Euros last year was again Southgate's fault because he played defensive cowardly football when we were 1-0 up after 5 minutes in the final, who does that? We could've beaten Italy 2 or 3 nil if he was brave, but no. Southgate is a coward and the players are bottlejobs, they don't have the mentality to win anything and they never will.

France looked average. Only Lloris had a good game. Mbappe was marked out the game. Rice and Bellingham were running the midfield, our back 4 wasn’t pressed. What Southgate should have done was switch Foden into the 10 and put Rashford on the left for Henderson. Foden is wasted on the wing, you could see when he came inside how much more effective he was picking up the ball and carrying it, he’s got an eye for a pass and can make something happen out of nothing. That’s the change he should have made and go at France and try to kill them off with more goals. Until Southgate is gone, this manager will continue picking favourites and playing safe football.

France was skillful in attack but physical and clumsy in defense. England controlled the game and created a lot of opportunities despite looking a little hesitant in attack. There were many times England just held the ball in the attacking half and everyone stood around and didn’t know what to do. I felt that France was very passive in defending and if England had a player who had the confidence and skill to drive into the defense they may have created more opportunities. If the final ends up France vs Argentina I think Messi’s ball skills will shred the defense.

Southgate is the best England manager of all time and I loved his composure and eloquence. You can really tell that he has a great aura with the players and they all respect him. He came up against the world champions and pocketed mbappe. Saka and Foden were fouled so many times and 1 of those led to the first goal. Benzema hasn't done half of what Giroud has for France. France had most of their best players playing. It was not a B team, nor was it a much easier team to play than if Kante, Pogba and Benzema had featured. Could say that England were missing their most positive and impactful midfielder in Maddison, a much more in-form centre back in Tomori, No Trent-Alexander. Southgate barely tried to utilise the depth on England's bench. Any one of these players could have madd a solid improvement to the game if given the chance. Completely agree with everything from Carra about all the big decisions, its a foul on Saka, foul on Kane but not a pen as just outside the box, other minor decisions didn't seem to go our way and yes its a yellow not a red for Hernandez. However we played well and edged France but they were just clinical. I think Southgate should be allowed to see out his contract to Euro24 personally as he should be replaced by an english manager, who is there available right now?? No one, in 18 months time however Howe might be available from Newcastle. Hopefully Southgate focuses on making a midfield 3 of Rice, Bellingham and Foden with Saka wide right and whoever is on form for wide left (plenty of options). Reece James is the natural replacement for Walker I feel, Chilwell hopefully is still at a high level to return and compete for LB. Goalkeepers are all solid. Just feels like CB and ST are a bit lacking in top quality options maybe.
