The main problem with flips when learning is trying to flip the board before it’s even left the ground. Just do a massive Ollie and then flip it when you are up there .
@jbernardo33 жыл бұрын
The main thing that helped me start landing my heel flips was just some little YT short that said to pretend it’s just an Ollie but kick out your heel at the end. I didn’t know why, but it just works, I thought it was because my balance is just more dialed in when I Ollie but now I’m thinking it’s because when I Ollie im not worried as much about what my lower leg has to do, which allows me to bring my knee forward further/faster. I’m gonna try them again with this cue instead and see if I get a similar result.

I was always comfortable with heel flips before kick flips. Still my go-to trick at 47 years old! I never really thought about the technique, but I rewatched the ones I recorded, and my knee is definitely way ahead of my foot!

I think you would get more height/pop on your heel flips in you wait a little longer before you flip the board, it’s only like a fraction of a second and it’s more of a feeling thing. It’s kind of like a back flip, you have to focus on jumping up first, if you try to initiate the flip before you have reached the apex of your jump all your energy goes into the rotation instead of the ascension.

Agreed! Never could heel flip before watching the Neen Williams heel flip tutorial. Have to put my front foot on differently and hang toes bit back foot in the pocket is clutch! Then hang foot off the nose for a sec.
@bsszzzz17793 жыл бұрын
i was there last year when i learned heelflips. i was always better in them til i wanted the neen williams flick which i succeded BUT be aware that if you manage to flick it that way the hardest part for me was to bring the board back because it flies in front of you as you can see. I was able to catch it but i would land always on the tip of the tail, til i slipped out of the tail and sprained my ankle. So since a year i did not try them anymore. to achieve that what neen does, i was focussing to do more an ollie than a heelflip and then when you almost jumping you just kick it out hard and it works wunderfull. PS: i like how you descirbed it with the "Knee in front of the Nose"..i probably wasnt doing that.... greetings JOE, keep going

Neen’s heelflip is also a product of popping off the heel side of the tail(goofy) with back foot instead of popping dead center. Counter pressures the front foot placement and give you more pop I think

Ohh you cracked the board. Are you going to go back to the Roberts twin tail. You had a great session. I am definitely a heelfliper first. I can’t get heelflips to save my life. I can’t figure out my body weight when popping. My board lands a good foot or two in front of me (the direction I’m rolling). I’ve noticed when looking at footage of myself trying heelflips that I’m almost jumping backwards (fakie direction) but I cannot get my body to jump forward or straight up & down no matter how hard I focus on it…. I’m really struggling. I’ve landed 5 heelflips so far but obviously it was just luck. Please if anyone else had the same issue, what helped?

pop it harder like you going to do a real big ollie and soak up those legs into a ninja kick… like a kick flip and try and catch it with the back foot… remember you want it to flip going upwards and catch it with your back foot at the peak of jump or Ollie or pop… luan does it the best imo
