Think it is more that Chelsea have signed 20 players in 12 months, wait all summer and then tell a key player the day before the season starts that he can find a new club, after he had been used in preseason games, instead of being told in good time he was surplus. Getting rid of players is not out of the ordinary, nor is it a player wants to move on, but it is a two-way street of treating the other part well and leave on good terms. This is not rocket science.
@MaterLacrymarum2 ай бұрын
@@janniknielsen9292 He's not a key player. He's a very very well paid player who has under-performed. Why would any team want an under-performing player whom they're paying 1.2m a month? @goodwin91142 ай бұрын
If I were Sterling I’d sit in the Chelsea reserves on the (alleged) 300k a week and use the state of the art training facilities to keep fit and use the time he isn’t travelling to have all that time with his family. Football is harsh BUT Chelsea two years ago put a proposal to him that probably said “come to us. Move yourself and family down south and relocate. We have this footballing project where we expect to be in champions league and in the top 1.5 of the league. We will build a footballing style a coaching style and create an environment for you to succeed so we can succeed.” Ok Sterling hasn’t delivered but chelsea certainly haven’t delivered their part either (other than paying him on time). If chelsea were giving out sensible contracts that made sense (in the real world and the football world not planet Tobo) then the situation is manageable. Now you’ve a club that is being viewed as the proverbial social club, a cash cow for very little effort who will change their minds in a whim. The fact they have cha fed their minds in player they brought in last year tells you the recruitment effort simply is flawed. As a non chelsea fan I personally don’t care. It’s not as if they are realistically in the top four race let alone title race but I will look forward to the numerous documentaries about how Tony Fernandez ran chelsea into the ground. Sorry Todd Boehly ran QPR into the ground. Can’t really tell the difference at this point.

It is not normal that teams force players out without giving them any indication and especially not just before season starts. Buying 20 players in 12 months is not normal. Sterling is a relic from the old way of paying big salaries (£300k p/w) that Chelsea are trying to move away from. Low basic salary of (£60k - £70k) in a league where the average salary is £72k, but bonus the players on things like goals scored and clean sheets over longer term contracts should keep the wage bill down whilst stll being able to attract players. Makes sense in theory, but I think right now with a mix of this plus big wage players its a mess. Expect all those remaining on top money to be pushed out over the next 24 months.

They’ve also put themselves in a situation where the market for him is dry, they’ll also not get the sort of return they may want as other clubs know that they don’t want him, so won’t be inclined to put that sort of money.
