In Highschool I used to be able to get a slice of pizza, a sausage roll or a portion of chips for like 60p. After he stormed school meals all those years ago, the cheapest thing on the menu that I could afford was a pasta pot and it was £2!!!! That might not seem like a massive difference but to a poor family it is, take the difference and times it over the year and thats actually about 200-300 quid a difference. To a poor family that's the difference between starving and being fed. How about instead of taxing cheap sugary foods we campaign to have the cost of healthy food reduced?

Sugar tax is great. It's the only thing that I agree on with Jamie Oliver. There's a huge diabetes epidemic in UK. Thanks to Tess Holliday efforts of glamorising fatness and eating a 3 kilo cake in one go after a 10 min session in a gym. And with the diabetes treatment sponsored by common income tax, it means that the tax money can't be used for something more useful, like cancer research. As a tax payer, I don't want to pay for someone's bad decision. I'd rather prefer my money build new hospitals for children with cancer, then paying for an overweight immovable people who claim that they have big bones. It's not your big bones, honey. It's a 3 kilo cake that you eat on a daily basis. It's their fault that they got diabetes, not mine. So why should I pay for it? If alcohol and tobacco tax exist, then sugar tax should exist too. Sugar is as addictive and as bad as tobacco and alcohol. And that's that.

Low income people can buy apples instead of cakes
@teatowel113 жыл бұрын
@@alwayshangrygirl463 The difference between alcohol and cigarettes, and sugar is that sugar is food and can be consumed in reasonable amounts without any negative health impact. I'm 31, healthy bodyweight, exercise regularly and eat a nutritious diet. Why should I pay an extra tax on a wide range of food products just because they include sugar? Although low income people could eat an apple, the fact is that most will not and will therefore pay a large amount of tax which they can afford. Lower income people also just spend a larger proportion of their income on food so naturally this tax will effect them more. Honestly all the strings that people are trying to attach to public health makes me reconsider whether it's a good thing at all.
@alwayshangrygirl4633 жыл бұрын
@@teatowel11 for a person who eats an occasional chocolate bar, the difference between £0.6 per a snickers bar and £0.7 is not a huge difference. The difference only matters to people who choose to eat 40 bars a day and refuse to understand that they have an addiction. And saying that low income families will not choose apples over chocolate is a huge generalisation and over exaggeration. You don't need to be rich to make good choices. 5 apples cost £1 and 1 chocolate bar costs £0.7. it's not about your income, it's about stupidity. And I don't want my tax money to be used on stupid people. I want it to be used for building hospitals for children with cancer. You denying the problem is a problem. Do you think that children with cancer don't deserve treatments because of your bad choices?

@Claire-tz8yl2 жыл бұрын
@@alwayshangrygirl463 to be honest I'm not sure the sugar tax does much. If you have a sugar addiction you're still going to spend money on it. Anything can be an addiction and addictions are hard to fight. There is still an obesity problem in the UK and in many other countries. Taxes work against the poor and don't effect the rich. Balanced diets should be encouraged and people should be given advice on healthy on a budget. If someone has a caffeine addiction then knocking up the prices of caffeinated drinks won't do a whole lot, people just spend more money on it cos it's an addiction and haven't received help in fighting the addiction. That's just my opinion anyway. I don't think the sugar tax worked if there's still a huge problem and still a massive issue. It might make a small impact, but is it enough to make a difference worth mentioning ? 🤷
@alwayshangrygirl4632 жыл бұрын
@@Claire-tz8yl simple. Make sugar illegal. If coc**ne is illegal, so should sugar be. They cause the same damage to the body. And I don't want to pay for someone's diabetes just because they took a wrong decision for 30 years. Also sugar tqx works. Because money from this tax covers expenses on diabetes treatments, so it makes sense that people who buy sugary treats will pay for their future diabetes. Just like tobacco tax goes to treat tobacco addictions and lung cancer. It's how tax works.

Post school dinner reform he now has power and money his true colours shine through. One quote that made me think he was totally up himself was "lets face it my kids will be go to private school" It's like he has totally forgot where he came from. A school dinner was always meat, tatties and veg. no its just crap on a plate.. and no where near enough to feed a young child.. what gets me is the price too.. 2.50 a meal/per day.. fuck for that price i could feed the child full for three days straight. with a decent meal that would fill them. The whole system is fucked up. and that fuck is to blame. what annoys me most about him is that he campaigned for healthy food for kids, then goes and feeds his own kids shit dripping in fat.

I wonder if Jamie Oliver knows that in order to be healthy you need some "unhealthy" foods in your diet. Like I advocate for people to eat healthily, and I do agree that something needs to be done to encourage people to eat healthier, but taxation isn't the way to go. If you start adding silly taxes to products, eventually they will just not be available to buy.
