My husband loves a good steak so I decided to make him a steak for Father's Day dinner as a surprise. I'm a vegetarian so I've never made it before, never in all ten years of our marriage. We've always just ordered out for a steak for him. You made it easy to explain even for me to follow along, and he loved it. I actually feel confident enough to make this more often for him now. Thank you!

Oh yeah I know what you are talking about! While on college break one year, I was forced to eat ramen every day for three months while my job sorted out its payroll system. I ate it uncooked, cooked, with egg, various spices, but it was still basically just a squiggly mass of salt and carbs. after a few weeks I looking in my bowl was like staring into the abyss. The only thing worse than eating the Ramen was the hunger pains I got from *not* eating it. I've never been so utterly depressed in my whole life. The entire experience was bleak and unremitting. Ever since then, I've never eaten a package of ramen ever again. And so good luck my friend in getting your situation figured out. There is no way to feel good eating just raman. But it is equally true that with good nutrition and exercise it is very hard to become this depressed.

If the meat loses all those juices while being cooked it means it's either not a very good steak or it was too cold when it started cooking. Anyway the more juice is on the place the less tender the meat is gonna be.

I've always been afraid to cook steaks, but I followed this advice and knocked it out of the park! I combined this guy and Gordon Ramsay's methods. I cooked mine in a cast iron skillet. I don't think he said, though, to choose a steak with a bit of fat marbling in with the meat. Too lean will make it tough. I also froze the steak first, then thawed it to room temperature. I've read that it makes the steak more tender. Instead of adding more olive oil, I rubbed it with a bit of butter and garlic (skipped the rosemary since I don't like it). I added 6 drops of lemon to the juices, and pored that over the steak too. Anyway, it was DELICIOUS!!!! I would put my results up to most restaurants I've been to. Thanks for posting this video.

I thought you're to only flip once per side?
@luigimario11448 жыл бұрын
+emkplayboy6 Absolutely no scientific reason why you would do that. The more you flip, the more evenly your steak will cook (so long as you cook it for the same amount of time for each flip). If you go for even less, say 30 seconds on each side and flip, it'll cook even more evenly.

Where do you start? Hanging a steak does not make it juicier @ :35. It dries it out and intensifies the flavor. "Misconception that you need loads of olive oil" (as he puts loads of olive oil on the steak @ 2:24). "Keep turning it"@3:00. No, leave it alone so it can get some color (flavor) and you don't force all of the juices out by banging it around. "The sirloin here's got about a minute."@4:21 it's a rib eye, not a sirloin. "That's proper cooking" @ 4:35. No it isn't. You are squeezing all of the juice out of the steak. Leave it alone.

Lord Gremlin Well Lord Gremlin let me explain. Jamie Oil-ever finds it impossible not to oil his steak. He seems to like olive oil so much I shudder to think where else he uses it. It is a well known fact that olive oil is probably the worst choice if you want to sear a piece of meat, because it burns and turns carcinogenic well before searing happens. If you like olive oil that much, make a Greek salad!! He then proceeds to turn it over and over while prodding all the juice out of it like hes worried the cow is going to jump up and run off. Then he cuts it up on a bread board so he can leave half the natural meat juice behind but then improvises with more butter. If you like butter that much, make a sandwich! Now the steak is cut up and about as cold as grandma's feet, before putting the fast cooling steak in a cold plate and pours cold buttery/olive oily over it. It may look pretty till you pop it in your mouth.

@BoydTheMilkmanX9 жыл бұрын
Adidas Love I buy my steaks from a supermarket too. The colour on these steaks is just depressing, though, and I'm not even a professional chef/chef with any sort of training. These just look like oily messes of depressing meat. But I mean it's not like he's going to go out and buy a half decent steak for his Internet cooking show. Lol.
@Ad-Lo9 жыл бұрын
BoydTheMilkmanX Hahaha, I think I might have reduced the olive oil as well, but Jamie Oliver is a huge fan of good quality Extra Virgin Olive oil in any event and most subscribers to his channel frequently point this out so I just attributed that to his cooking style. Given I can't afford that, either, that is not a trap I will ever fall into. I appreciated some of his other tips on this tutorial though. Your point is noted, about calling them "perfect" but I don't think either one of us would have clicked on a link that said, "Mediocre Steaks For Those On A Budget", I guess. :)

I think its pretty cool how Jamie and Gordon have different ways of cooking steak, might try them both out sometime.

Just use a good instant thermometer. The thumb thing or doing it by touch and feel only works if you’re a professional and do it everyday.

I used to be a “flip once” guy. But I noticed other chefs online saying to turn it frequently so that two things would happen: 1.) Develop a good crust 2.) Have an even done-ness throughout the steak without those unappetizing gray layers. I tried the flip more than once method, and it is way better than flipping once. It gives an even medium rare in the steak similar to the kind you would get from a reverse sear.

Also letting the steaks come to room temperature and makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE in cooking time.

Well that does look like a decent steak and he really explains it perfectly. I'd love to know the exact time it would take for cooking a Well-done steak which is about that size.

Try it with an Rib Eye Steak, approx inch thick and it works well. I put it a little bit too long in the pan but it was okay. After that rest for 5 minutes in Aluminium foil together with the garlic and rosemary. Great.
