Fuck yeah. Most thrilling interview yet, Oskar. I’m continually charmed by how passionately and thoughtfully you receive the guests. Keep it up, man! If it’s worth anything: I’m a black Mozambican (African, but not of the American variety) male and I think it’s a tragedy that the considerable discourse the song did spark has been put out by self-imposed ‘censorship’ - for the lack of better words. I’d like to think that people who take Jamie and the group’s music seriously know there’s no illicit or “ironic” intent, even if the themes may be Dadaist or absurd in their presentation. For my money, it befits the nature of racial fetishisation and commodification for it to be portrayed so inanely - it only underscores the horrors in question. That said, I respect the opinion and sentiment of the woman who was offended by the track and only stand evermore in admiration for the humanity behind Jamie’s decision and his general approach to his craft. Alas, art isn’t always gonna be polite. In this situation it needn’t be, in my sincerest and humblest but probs meaningless opinion. All-in-all, lovely chat between you two adorable boys!
