The mid-90s were a funky time. There was a huge dance scene, the raves, club kids. It was a bit of a backlash on the often sad darkness of grunge. It was accompanied by a resurgence of the hippie, day-glow, social justice, ecology movements of the 60s and 70s. Not to mention the fashions of the 60s and 70s as well. Disco was back but with a modern twist. Sampling funk and soul artists from that era was also popular, and made a good shortcut to sounding like those 70s funk bands: just borrow their hooks and beats. Deee-Lite is one of those dance funk bands. I think you've already done their Groove Is in the Heart. If not, do not delay!

The name "Jamiroquai", is a mix of the words "jam" and the name of a Native American confederacy, the Iroquois. Yes, that is strange.
