I remember seeing Jay Kay on Top Gear here in the States. He said the director was so concerned about the room being rolled around and the need for choreography. Jay Kay said he looked at him and said I've been dancing in front of my mirror in my bedroom my whole life. I got this. And so he did!!!!

Fun fact about the music video, it's not the floor that's moving it's the set around him, as it is explained in the making of video.
@neil2444

It's weird to consider this, but he's not being pushed and pulled at all. He's the only thing that's still (or the couches when it seems like they're "moving" with him). The "wind tunnel" scene was just a bunch of guys holding onto the wall and staying still while the set moved backwards.

So the set (walls and everything) is basically a giant cage on wheels. They took it and found a giant warehouse with a grey smooth floor and they fixed cameras to the cage and roll it around so when he's standing still it looks like the room is moving around him. The chairs move or stay in place because they also had wheels and they locked them in place to the walls so when they want the seats to move they just release the lock and boom, chairs are "gliding along the floor on their own".

The thing to realise with this video, is Jay Kay remembered where the sofas and couches were going to move depending on the backstage grips and prop masters, the treadmill style flooring and walls, and the choreography... and he then ad-libbed all of his moves because he simply knew where the props were going to move. At the same time miming the words to the song so it matched the song.

"Starlight Brigade" by TWRP. It's like a full 80's anime movie, exploring the use of light and color as a metaphors for hope, that only takes a few minutes to watch, and fits perfectly to the song. Even though the guest singer is from a very NSFW band, this song is completely clean.

Back in the 90's this video was one of a kind, no one had done anything like this before and the reaction to it was insane. The genre of the band and this song is acid-jazz, or jazz funk. The song itself is lamenting the proliferation of technology in our society, at the expense of human connections and preserving our environment.
@hungfao
@hungfao 4 жыл бұрын
No, it wasn't done in one take. Generally when they panned to the bird or the bugs, they were resetting for the next shot. Also of note, the ending didn't work out. They intended blood-like fluid to stream from the walls but it failed to work. All they ended up getting was a trickle from a hole in the background. You can just perceive it if your look for it. Most impacting videos? Closer - Nine Inch Nails Wicked Game - Chris Isaak Hurt - Johnny Cash Take On Me - A-Ha One - Metallica Everybody Hurts - REM Sledgehammer - Peter Gabriel Thriller - Michael Jackson You have lovely kids. Some of these might not be recommended for younger people.

The small room was on rollers with a crew of men pushing it around. The camera was on a fixed head. The couch and chairs were attached with hooks that could be released. When the camera tilted up or down to follow the bird and roach that was an edit point. Check out Chemical Brothers "setting sun" or Basement Jaxx "where's your head at".

This video was easily created by having the walls moving and attaching and detaching the furniture to the walls by just screwing them to the walls. The camera is also rigged to the frame holding the walls. So all the walls are moving with the camera as one frame, and furniture that got fixed into place. So there is a whole team that hold onto handles on the outside, and he would be dancing in the middle while the director was shouting move up/down/left/right and stop all the time. So no... no moving floor. Just a fixed boring old grey concrete floor.

This is a 20 year old prophecy that came true. We locked in pods underground living virtual lives with virtual friends and virtual families in a virtual insanity but once in a while you can see the bugs on the edges the (nevermore) raven lurking the blood under the sofa, all streamed from ever-shifting rooms with 1 perspective 1 performance front and center. Do we live in a reality or a virtual reality? "It's a wonder men can eat at all When things are big that should be small Who can tell what magic spells we'll be doing for us And I'm giving all my love to this world Only to be told I can't see I can't breathe No more will we be" "Future's made of virtual insanity now Always seem to, be governed* by this love we have For useless, twisting, our new technology Oh, now there is no sound - for we all live underground"
