So much great about this episode. Jin Woo grabbing the arrow just as it's let fly and stabbing the archer reminds us how fast he is, and then him stabbing the elf king reminds us he can stealth too thanks to S1 (I legit forgot!). Then you have Jin Woo casually moving out of the way and stealthing when Iron brings the hammer! Excellent episode!

What's sad about the episode though is the anime cut out a lot of the inner monologues of the other characters. Don't get me wrong, Kim chul's still a tool, but in the novel, the reason why he split the teams was cause he was correct in saying the rest of them would be pretty much dead weight, so he took the more skilled members to try and rush complete gate. He wanted to actually minimize the deaths. Leaving them there, was shitty, but in terms of survival, If they went with kim chul, they would have dragged the rest of team down trying to protect them, which could result in even more deaths. Save the many vs the few. They did take down an ice giant which they thought was the boss at which point they were gonna go back and see if there were any survivors and save them, but unfortunately, they didn't know they were just baited by the ice elves that were stealthed. Of course, none of that matters cause jinwoo was there to save the day, but if it was a regular situation, take away jinwoo and the ice elves, and kim chul would have objectively made the right choice to guarantee more survived. I just wish they gave more context in the anime cause it would've made it more complex and give it more depth, instead of just the usual "cocky leader got owned by monster, decides to blame team"

It’s really interesting that the anime decided to go this route. In the Manhwa Jinwoo doesn’t use Igris to blind Baruka (not sure why they changed his name in the subtitles) instead what happens actually is Heejin notices that Chul is running at Jinwoo with the sword (he obviously knows) but she still warns him as Igris impales him after coming out of Jinwoo’s shadow. The other interesting change is they very clearly make Chul not only sound, but look insane in the Manhwa. His eyes are red and his face is shadowed which the author used a lot to let the audience know that this person wasn’t in their right mind. The anime still made him look really crazy, but I think I prefer the Manhwa’s depiction as it makes it a bit easier to accept that Chul reaped what he sowed (outside of his soul being used in Jinwoo’s army).

Also in the manhwa, Chul didn't lose because he was weak, he made bad choices as a leader. He didn't use the bears as a source of food or to make clothes from. He tried to rush the boss , by the time he runs back to the camp he hasn't eaten in days , he's freezing and just exhausted

I'm convinced now that the anime team is not trying to do a 1 to 1 adaptation from the manwha, but their own take with extra content from the novels.

Yoo Jin-ho didn't know anything about the red gate incident, or about Jinwoo taking Han Song-ji for a dungeon exploration. He literally took the [Job quest Change] the day before. Last time he spoke to Yoo Jin-ho was taking a few days free off raiding C-rank dungeons with him. He reassumed his C-rank raids the very next day after the red gate incident (obvious from the way they talk in the car). He hadn't spoken to him in 2 days. From Yoo Jin-ho's point of view: - Jinwoo got a haircut - he wasn't acting cold towards the girl like he usually would distance himself, so he was already "acting weird" (not knowing their relationship either, her being his sister's friend) And to make things worse: - girl put on make up - she brushed against him - she dropped honorifics and called him by "Jinwoo" - all the obvious signs were being given off that she was genuinely trying to get his attention I honestly can't blame Yoo Jin-ho for this. But anyway I'm glad the anime didn't script off the goofy side from the manhwa, something they did in season 1. Either it was planned, or maybe the studio LISTENED to the reviews of season 1. Having Iron show his funny side will bring more goofy moments in the life of the other shadow soldiers. Hopefully we will see the goofy side of Jinwoo as well every time he gets triggered by Iron's actions (yes, even Igris gets influenced and starts competing later) And the Yoo Jin-ho misunderstanding + goofy parts that will show him getting closer + more acquainted with Jinwoo, becoming a true friend in the whole sense, having Jinwoo retain some humanity at the very least.

If you think about it, he had to disappear one way or another, no way he would've left Sung and the others alone after all that happened There were also some interesting changes from the Manhwa, originally 9 hunter's "went missing" while 3 instead of 2 survived. Not that it does anything for the story besides maybe letting everything look even worse number wise
