I'm genderfluid and entering the first stages of medical transition knowing full well I might change my mind later, since my identity changes over time. If that happens, that's okay. I would never deny the same treatments to anyone else; I've been on numerous treatments for depression that have not worked for me and had some awful side effects, but I wouldn't deny them to anyone who needs them.

Our gender-neutral toilet was shut down in my school because of “misuse” (which I can understand, as literally anyone can go there, lock the door, and do whatever they want) so now I walk my non-out trans friend to the bathroom, as I am a trans man who just wants to help my trans brothers. Anyway, I hope the bathroom opens up for my trans and non-binary friends.

A junior high school I went to looked like it was designed with gender-neutral bathrooms. Full stall doors, open washing area. Within 2 years of opening they were gendered. Don't know if it was the reason, but people with penises would pee all over the toilet paper. Only figured out years later why the boys' and girls' washrooms were on opposite corners of the main classroom area.
@Lokear

Same here, except it was given a lock instead. They were one-room restrooms instead of ones with multiple stalls, and anyone who wanted to use them had to get personal approval for a key from the principal :/ The *only* person I know who ever used them after that was my friend, who's non-binary, and they almost didn't bother going through the hassle either. I think gender neutral bathrooms also work for parents needing to take their opposite gender child to the restroom. The child isn't made to feel out of place like they might if they had to use a gender specific bathroom. If that makes sense. "The trans urge not to out yourself" I almost outed myself accidentally last week. My father, my sister and I were sitting on the couch, my father and my sister were talking about gender inclusive language. - Note: In Germany someone came up with the idea to make language more inclusive by putting an asterisk between the male and female ending of nouns for jobs (and other stuff) - At one point, I almost blurted out that I do not feel myself represented in a f*cking asterisk, I was barely able to hold that comment back and instead said that maybe a gender neutral and for humans applying pronoun would have been better. I do plan on coming out as non-binary to my family at some point - but not like that!

I think in some situations it can be really difficult to figure out how to talk about trans people in the past, especially in cases where gender identity or presentation at the time is relevant to the story. For example, when I was a kid, my abusive step mother was not yet out as trans, and so we knew her by her deadname and assigned gender at birth. For YEARS after she came out I struggled to figure out how to talk about my experiences appropriately, because her gender presentation was a factor in the ways that she was abusive. She would throw around her status as a "man" to be menacing and perform extremely toxic masculinity. I didn't care about respecting her personally after what I went through- but I didn't want to contribute to transphobia by misgendering her either. These days, I identify as nonbinary genderfluid and I can run into similar situations with myself, where I want to reference my experience 'as a woman' but I get stuck because I'm not one. But I believed myself to be one at the time, etc. It can be complicated.

Before I realised you could change your labels (when I was a little kid) I got so confused, not because I didn't understand a woman is now a man. For some reason I was confused if they turn gay or turn straight (depending on who they were attracted to before) and i would spend so much time trying to make sense of it because for some reason I never thought you could change your labels. When I learnt you can I immediately said to myself 'ohhh that makes sense'. I'm sorry, I just found it funny how the concept of transitioning made more sense than just saying they are lesbian/gay or straight when they used to be the opposite to a 6 to 10 year old me

I imagine it would be like if I made you the perfect chocolate cake, and then topped it smegma instead of icing. About the confusion about lesbian one; as a cis straight person, do you know how I found out trans people can be gay? GLEE. Fricking glee. When coach beiste transitioned. It seems pretty obvious now, but in 2015 I didn't know much about LGBTQ people (I was also like 14 so)

A little addition to why gender neutral bathrooms are nessesary! 😊 -People with disabilities who require assistance may not have or be comfortable with an assistant of their same gender, and therefore need disability accessible bathrooms that are neutral! (P.S. As a trans guy, I really appreciate your channel and your videos have really helped me, both with worries I had about transitioning and as a cheer-me-up when I'm feeling like no one gets it. Thank you so much!! And also, congrats on your marriage!)

I was outside working in my front yard and was pretty neutral looking. (I currently identify as DemiFem but I think I may be NB) And one of those guys who try to sell you stuff at your door came up to me and went "Hello there... um... fellow human" and it made me laugh so hard. I love that guy he was nice

Oh my Lord it's so weird talking about myself (trans guy) or my close friend (trans girl). We became bestie in middle school and we where the exact opposite of what we are now. Oh and body wash (obviously not her real name but I'm sitting in the bathroom LMAO) was the most straight cis "OH MY GOD YOU THINK IM GAY" and "do I look gay" and "I'd never where a skirt" ect. so now I laugh at her and joke her bc she was so against it and now she wears dressed at least one a week.

I think the issue is because the cis don't know that sexuality is not fixed or that romanticism isn't always attached to sexuality. And that what gender you are doesn't say what your sexuality or romanticism is. My friends that are cis ask me about it all the time because they know I am not cis. And I got to say as a kid I had no idea and asked anyone whom was lgbtqa+ whenever I saw them "what are you? and how does that work?" got to say not the best phrasing, but I was a kid with no knowledge and totally curious. Everyone was nice about it, even if my dad did yank me away each time in mid convo saying "you don't need to know any of that, stop asking questions. Asking questions is rude."

The gender neutral bathrooms (there at two of them at my school) literally saved me. I sometime just go there at break and break down. I'm trans guy/nonbinary- still trying to figure it out. Thanks for the "christmas themed" video Jamie!

My College has "male" "female" and "Any gender" washrooms, as well as little "get to know me tags" to meet your roommate with "Pronouns" as an option, I love how equal it is here.

7:18 I'm nonbinary and we have one gender neutral bathroom at my school, but it's always locked and you have to ask the office for the key to use it. I'm far too nervous to ever ask for it, so I always just use the women's restroom :')

This channel makes me happy~ it helped me learn more about trans people in 2020 and 2021,,, and then in 2022... I realized I'm also trans lol. Trans channels like this one help me so much because my family is,,,,questionable in terms of supportiveness and positivity is really helpful when I'm feeling down. Keep up the good work ♡♡♡

I was super confused about why it would confuse anyone that a trans woman who is attracted to women is a lesbian. I actually sat here for a moment on pause trying to figure out if I'd missed something. 🤦‍♀️ If someone told me they picked out their name themselves, it wouldn't occur to me that they were trans. I'd think it was a nickname, that they'd changed their name, that they went by their middle/last name instead of their first name, or that they're an artist/author/actor who goes by a pen/stage name. That's probably because my father goes by his middle name, two cousins and one of my grandfathers go by nicknames that don't seem connected to their first names, my other grandfather went by a shortened version of our last name, and two friends go by their pen names. 🤷‍♀️

Once, I made the mistake of assuming my AMAB friend was cis. I referred to them as he/him/his all the flippin' time. Then one day they marched over and were like 'I heard you've been misgendering misgendering me' and I was like ??? And they said 'I'm a they/them' and I was like 'oh sorry' Moral of the story: its so simple and easy to make a basic change to how you refer to someone and to generally not be a butt. Also, never assume someone's pronouns based on how they look. Ask, if you feel comfortable asking. If not, refer to them as they/them until you know for sure- just in case (Homestly I've been wanting to get this off my chest for a long time, and I thought this might be a good place to do it. Hopefully this helps someone avoid the silly mistake I made)

As a genderfluid person that last meme about correcting your friends on your pronouns is all too relatable. Not because they're transphobic (which they're not) but because I'm too lazy and don't even know my gender half of the time xD.

I remember when I first came out as a trans guy a lot of people would ask me "So, what are you into now" and I'd just bei like "...Uhmmm the same as the last 10 years?" And they just like "So you still gay?". Me: "No. I've only ever been attracted to women. I just didn't realize I was a guy so I thought I was gay but since I am a guy I am obviously straight." And they would still look at me with visible confusion. Like how is it so hard to understand that, regarding my sexual orientation, literally nothing changed? 😂

8:29 this actually happened to me at school once. Some random kid I didn't even know was trying to make some dumb 'I screwed your mom' jokes and said "Hey I know you, you're my girlfriend's son." It was very nice tbh. I know he was trying to insult me, but all I could really focus on was that he assumed I was male without even knowing who I was :)
