First person I ever heard do this was Tom Rush in 1970 (I was 21) - with John Sebastian on mouth harp. I still have that vinyl album to this day - and (yes) a turn-table to play it on. I was playing Doc Watson and Leo Kottke tunes on my Gibson 12-string guitar at the time - but didn't realise that Doc had done "Solid Gone." So it's very cool to hear this . . .

Listening to you guys play is like listening to Carl Sagan talk about Physics, nobody quite talks/plays like you guys anymore. Your legend.

What a Master Class here on how to play and sing with every fibre of our beings. Thanks gents. Your love for the art and life's works will be taught in universities even as were all 'Solid Gone'. I particularly love how you both mentor the yonger artists. Please keep it coming.

Mighty fine picking, guys. Thanks. Can barely wait to enjoy seeing both of you live again soon. (Thinking of Walsh Farm.) Best to you from N.Eng.

Guess I wasn't the only one thinking about this song yesterday! Thank you guys :) I'm working at a friend's mentor's home studio lately and she has a Gibson mandolin she says was a gift from Sam. This gig doesn't call for it but when nobody's looking I've been itching to pick some on it!
