This movie talks about the caste system of India. If you aren't aware of what case system is. Them it exists in India for centuries till date. I'll explain in detail for those who want to know, according to Hinduism, Hindu people are divided into 4 sections, from higher to lower. Let's categorise these sections as B, which is the highest, then K, then V, and then S & D whic is the lowest. From centuries B holds the highest spot and were the once who were considered the most highest above all, they were well educated, considered that they are the only people who are intelligent and closest ally to God. Then comes K who were the Kings, soldiers and warriors, they were also allowed education if they wanted to and were highly respected. Then comes V, who were the traders and businessmen, their job was to trade and do nothing else, if any among them seeked education permission from B and K should be given. At last were S & D. S & D weren't allowed to get themselves educated, if they try, they were punished by pouring hot liquid lead into their ears by B and K. They were considered untouchables and should never see eye to eye to the top two classes people. They shouldn't do any work other than servant jobs, sweepers and toilet cleaners. In the 20th century, a freedom fighter and a revolutionary named Dr BR Ambedkar who belonged to the S & D category himself, managed to educate himself in law abroad, and came back to fight for the rights of the people from the S & D categories. He fought and fought and got the S & D categories, a particular percentage of mandatory reservations to educate themselves in schools and colleges. He also fought against the discrimination they faced in the society and tried his best making them equals to everyone else in every aspect. But his dream of completely abolishing the Caste system never happened. Unfortunately, some never forget their old mistakes even today and silently treat these people badly. The girl shown in the movie is from the S & D category and the professor is from the B category. We can recognise this with they names. The woman sweeping the floor at the back also comes from the same category. Her birth into an S & D category house was her mistake is what her last suicide note meant. Unfortunately, caste discrimination still happens in India everyday in a silent way.
