Putting a horse in reverse is easy, but training one to back a cart into the ocean that it can't see would take a lot of conditioning. I can imagine one bolting as soon as it felt the current sucking around its hooves. Going straight in and turning would probably be safer with a skittish horse.

Have you been to Lyme Regis? How was your visit? Did you go for Lyme itself, because of Jane Austen, or Mary Anning, or all of the above? Or something else?

I have, and I did not know much about it! Went there for the fossils and researched Jane Austen and Mary Anning later. I absolutely loved it.
