please tell me i'm not the only one who jumped with that crazy laugh at 8 minutes and 35seconds?? I was near tears with laughter my self with jane's reaction...such crazy laughter made me jump, but also laugh.,. thanks for the upload. i have been watching all jane eyre adaptions lately. this one, so far, is rather interesting... to say the least.

Interesting early television adaptation. They’d be limited to what they could do in the studio so they had to cut bits out. We shall see what happens in the rest of the parts…

Absolutely agree.Rochester and Jane meeting by horse :D was providential. A first meeting of equals rather than master and servant. It also sparked their mutual interest. Now, in this adaptation, he just suddenly falls in love with her? Not to mention, the horse incident is gothic, dramatic and romantic. Only reason I can think of for excluding the horse is... they couldn't get one? ;p

If you think that Heston trying not be handsome was something, watch the 1983 version with Timothy Dalton. When he asks Jane whether she finds him handsome and she says no, you wonder whether she has been struck blind, LOL!

I really think sometimes how many retakes Zelah Clarke would have taken to just say that " no sir" line to Timothy Dalton, because she mentioned in her interview that Timothy Dalton was sexy, lovely and gorgeous. She really admired him and loved working with him. 😊

When I hear Heston's voice - I expect to hear the Ten Commandments any moment. I thought the meeting when he fell off the horse was a wonderful party of the story and it annoys me that they left it out of the movie.

Haha, I had the same reaction too. Although in the 1983 version THAT Jane Eyre's strange reply could have been explained by how, er, frightened she always seemed to look. Like a pigeon with a perpetual heart attack.

They are so wrong for the roles!!! She's too pretty and he, too handsome. The set is wrong, and neither her dress nor her hairstyle are appropriate for the period. And they are so American! I think they don't have the initial important outdoor meeting scene because this was done in the early days of TV and it was all done indoors?

Yes, live television was somewhat "limited" in 1949. "STUDIO ONE" didn't start experimenting with "outdoor film inserts" until around 1952.
