The wedding clothes are wonderful. Jane's gorgeous dress with the pleating. And Mr Rochester's touches of luxury. Beautiful.

According to the novel Emily Bronte's Jane Eyre was also defiant and rebellious in spirit and nature. I don't think Zelah Clarke delivered an accurate portrayal of the character. Clake showed little if any emotional range, what we got was a lot of tired timid and sad expressions with very little dialogue. Tomothy Dalton carried this miniseries, without his brilliant performance as Rochester this production of the story of Jane eyre would not have been watching.

Goodness Timothy Dalton really brings out the character of Mr. Rochester!! I never felt so fearful before!! lol. He's good and the closest to my opinion when it comes to the book.

Poor Jane, but so is he. He made a serious mistake in his past and suffert for years among it, and now he get the biggest blow he ever did endure in his life. Jane is going to leave him. Life is not fair, it always has been that way. Everyone deserve a second chance and Mr. R. did get that in the end. But he became an invalid, and that is very tragic.

Jane deserved better than going back to her mistake.

They make such a sweet couple. He's 6' 2", she is 5' 6". Both with passionate natures, romantics, and such good chemistry. Dalton is a real Vulcan, he plays a brooding, tempestuous, smoldering, jealous, bullying, passionate man. Jane is the perfect counterpoint to him with none of the artifices of the other young women. Jane has been through much suffering early in life, and she understands Rochester, and he feels understood by her as he too, has suffered and felt trapped. Look at the misery people suffered when laws were backward about divorce and you had to stay in a bad marriage for life! I'm glad I am not from that era.

Bertha Mason is very scary here, but it is probably the most truthful depiction of her.

Her room in the attic is almost accurate in the novel as well - no windows and there was a lantern above the ceiling.

Well, in the book she is described as very little. He even says he wants to put a chain on her and keep her on his breast pocket. Or something to that effect.

He's a little bow-legged, but I'll take him! 😍Who cares that he's got a lunatic wife upstairs!🤤 He was great in Framed. Hawks too. So many great roles, and a few dud movies, but he gives it his all and shines every time. Best. actor. ever. Check out his astrology chart (the correct one) it shows all the reasons he's irresistible (no inflated ego). Zelah, I love you too 😍😍😍(and we are all terribly jealous you got him in his prime).

For Sherlock Holmes fans, Briggs the lawyer was played by Colin Jeavons. Jeavons acted alongside the great Jeremy Brett (one of the most famous Holmes actors) as Inspector Lestrade.

What was Mr Rochester thinking, pray tell me? Was he hoping to get married to a 2nd living wife? Which legally can't be done, no?
@gssarma02 Жыл бұрын
Yes, he was risking bigamy, a felony, by marrying a second woman while the first wife was still living. He had convinced himself that he had a right to some happiness after the way he had been duped (by his own father and brother) - she was not only mad, she was unchaste as well and she was violent (that was probably because of the madness) - he felt like he was living in hell. He couldn't divorce her, and he didn't have the heart to lock her up in an asylum because they treated mad people badly; he paid well to have someone look after her while she was locked up in Thornfield Hall. And then he gallivanted around the world looking for some way to forget his misery. Then, one day he met Jane. And he hoped to live quietly with her with some innocence in his life. But there was always a cloud hanging over his head. He just wanted to take her away and forget everything. I don't think he ever planned to tell her - she wouldn't have stayed and he knew that.

The author explains the cruelty of the false Christian legislation. He is a miserable, bound human being who has no solution except deception. He has the right to a wife, and now a mistress is sufficient for the purpose.

Sorry but to me Samantha Morton was the best jane this lady is far too short nevertheless a good version with a great Mr Rochester
@SibyllaCumana9 ай бұрын
I prefer Samantha Morton's rendition of Jane: she truly conveyed innocence, passion and intelligence while I found Zelah's rendition a bit emotionless and, albeit a pretty actress, she looked too old for the part (in my opinion).

Do you not see from this scene how comical she looks. Like a dad taking his daughter's to church
@SibyllaCumana9 ай бұрын
I'd say his granny. She looks far too old, sorry. For me, she didn't portray Jane at all: no passion, no rebellious side, just the same ever-tired expression throughout the whole series. He deserved better in my opinion, but she was probably directed to be demure

@deborahhanna66405 жыл бұрын
She didn't have any family to come; He didn't want anyone there on his side so they could leave straightaway after to go to the continent on honeymoon. That is why they walked there together.

All good. Also, maybe he thought a small wedding meant less chance of getting caught- but it never really says that in the book. Different versions have variations; I think Mrs. Fairfax is there in the Ciaran Hinds movie (but I would have to see it again to be sure)

This scene is poignant for a miserable man who only wants a loyal wife, from whom he will be deprived forever due to false and false Christian legislation. Unlike Islam, a man is permitted to have polygamy because it is good for both men and women and reduces spinsterhood.
