The best screen version of this novel. The most handsome and loving Rochester, to my mind. Jane is so true to the book (both appearance and character). She shows her feelings and emotions great. I really admire this film, actors and everything here. Thank you.

No matter how many times I read this passage of the book or watch this particular film adaptation (which is the best, IMO), this scene still makes my heart literally ache every time without fail. It contains some of the best dialogue in the English language that still cuts to the soul after almost 175 years. I love the background music you’ve added here - I wish it had been used in the movie. This is just perfect: the unspoken love between them before he proposes is almost physically palpable. My heart aches for Jane as the silent tears stream down her cheeks as she faces what she believes is the end of her relationship with her true love - I want to run and tell her “Don’t cry, Jane...this is just the beginning!” And Mr. Rochester, dear Edward... I would hold him and never let him go, despite his actual marriage situation, unknown to Jane. I ache for him almost as much as I ache for Jane; their love is true, passionate, & rare. It is powerful and reaches through the pages to tear the hearts out of the multiple thousands of readers who have experienced this novel. Tears are welling in my eyes even now as I type this - I love them both so much even though they are just fictional characters. My life was never the same after I read Jane Eyre...I still keep it on my bedside table to pick up and journey to Jane & Edward’s world when I need to. Their love is so pure it feels real even though it is just a work of fiction. Charlotte Bronte must have based this on a genuine love...I refuse to believe this is just a storybook romance. Thank you posting this!

I absolutely agree. Jane Eyre is the book of my heart and this particular adaptation is the most faithful to the novel which i've literally read a thousand times in my life and will continue to do so. I don't understand why Timoty Dalton didn't succeed in film, he's an excellent actor. By the way, what big hands!
@cellowali28653 жыл бұрын
A very excellent actor but with some horrible movie choices, also he always preferred theatre over films 💁. I am not a native but 2 years ago I came across this wonderful series and fell in love with the story and actors ( especially Sir Timothy Dalton). This version inspired me to read the original " Jane Eyre" novel by Charlotte Bronte. Timeless classic tale.
@deborahahonen69492 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say he didn’t succeed in films- he’s made scores of films, and has played characters like Rhett Butler, Julius Caesar, James Bond, the King of France, and many many others. He’s done a lot of period pieces you may not be familiar with. He’s a renowned Shakespearean stage actor as well. He prefers projects that are “exciting, surprising, have depth and heart, and are entertaining.” Therefore he wasn’t interested in a lot of mainstream movies that would’ve made him richer, but wouldn’t have fed his soul.
@cellowali28652 жыл бұрын
@@deborahahonen6949 But I do think sometimes that he should have taken more interest in commercial movies,that would've made him famous world wide. Also I do think that he has a face of movie star, he is quite good looking to lead any film and has great screen presence as well, his role in his first debut movie lion in the winter wasn't that big, yet he made his presence felt as Prince Philip even in his brief appearance along side legendary actors Katherine Hepburn and Peter o Toole. And he looked very beautiful as young prince Philip. Not only he is underrated as an actor but his Beauty is also very much underappreciated.
@deborahahonen69492 жыл бұрын
@@cellowali2865 we may wish he had more interest in making mainstream films, but he just doesn’t seem to care much for fame or big bucks. He cares more about being a true artist in his craft, which #1 is the theater. Yes, he is extremely handsome, to me perhaps the most handsome man I’ve ever seen! I’ll keep searching for his films any way I can find them. My favorite is his version of Jane Eyre, which showcases his beauty, voice, heart, and wonderful acting skills. Fabulous!

I was really impressed by Timothy Dalton's impassioned acting here. However, having watched Mia Wasikowska and Ruth Wilson's emotive portrayals of Jayne, watching this one felt so empty and lifeless- I felt rather than going from heartbreak at the thought of losing him to being handed the whole world with his profession, there was as much emotion and change of feelings to if he'd just dictated a savoury shopping list to her and then added a cake for desert. She did not match in the slightest and I found myself trying to superimpose the other 2 Jayne's to give Timothy Dalton's Mr Rochester the love he deserved

This is so true!! She ruined the whole series for me with that ever-present sad expression of hers! I may say she delivered the lines beautifully, but without acting. He deserved so much more! My favourite portrayal was 1997 Jane, I didn't care much for Ruth either (too flirty) while I liked Mia. It's such a pity that this fabulous Rochester was matched with a partner who couldn't keep up with him and looked too old for the part (sorry).

This is not some modern movie maker putting his spin on a love story. This is Charlotte Bronte's work written in 1847 and it's almost word for word and reflects the social moores of the times. I guess you could just take a character from a book and present him the way you want but it would not be true to what Charlotte Bronte wrote. Like him or hate him, it's the way she wanted him depicted. There have been many horrible characters born out of the imagination of the author. Charlotte Bronte was one of the most brilliant.
