Jane Lewis became an expert in the painful and debilitating subject of vaginal atrophy after suffering awfully as she approached and went through menopause. She has researched the problem, found solutions, collaborated with other experts and now guides other women. She not only describes her experience but shares the many solutions and tips that women just don't know about or often know how to access. Its a long VLOG this week but I guarantee its worth persevering through to the end, there is so much good stuff that I couldn't edit it down any more without losing gems. Here are the links to the things mentioned in the VLOG;

I had a complete hysterectomy at age 40. I have not been intimate with anyone for 12 years. Yes I have experience dryness but did not know anything about vaginal atrophy. I purchased KY beads and attempting to insert 1 was a horrifying experience as I could only use my baby finger to get it where it belonged. Saw my doctor and she told me I had VA but gave me no hope or options for relief even though I told her I now have a gentleman friend. We aren't doing anything because this is not working for me. I am grateful to find KZbin videos that give me options to try and I hope I can reverse atrophy. Thank you for speaking out as no one in my family ever did. I'm here to listen and learn and I will try about anything at this point.

Educate yourself as much as you can. There’s an American doctor called Menopause Taylor who knows everything about all of these topics and has many videos on here, with the purpose of educating all women about the ins and outs of menopause. Too much material even, but soo very helpful. All of these women are trying to remove the stigma about this. Dr. Louise Newson is also very helpful. She has a clinic and a website with much information.

@karengrosso5428...I'm baby boomer generation (70) I don't think my moms generation knew about this. My own mom had VA and didn't even know it. She was miserable for years and thought she had some kind of VD. She didn't! Mom was in tears as her doctor tried to open up her vigina. I've had Mona Lisa treatments from my urologist every 6 months to a year and these treatments works. I'm not on estrogen because that can cause cancer. My sister does use estrogen and she does not have VA.

I was so happy to find this video, it’s very informative. Though I’m from the US and have to admit I found it difficult to understand your conversation. I replayed endlessly, pulled up the transcript and even slowed down the replay speed, but still missed a lot. I usually don’t have trouble with British accents (I understand everything Hugh Grant says, after all), so I think it’s mostly the echoes and muffled sounds caused by the distance between you and the microphone. Too bad, because this video should be watched by every woman suffering from vaginal atrophy, dryness, and pain - no matter where she lives.

I am using oral progesterone (Prometrium) and the estradiol patch (Estradot) but my HRT MD added vaginal Estradiol (Vagifem). She said that some women need vaginal estrogen locally, for optimal vaginal/bladder benefits, **in addition** to using systemic estradiol.

In my late 40s early 50s went repeatedly to my GP for UTis. She never suggested it was due to low oestrogen! I did my own research & eventually asked for it. Why do we as patients have to find the solutions, why aren’t GPS proactive & prevention rather than repeated antibiotic cure ?

This information NEEDS to be much more widely available and no longer so stigmatized in the western world - and I live in Germany where they tend to be less prudish about nakedness and the such. It makes me so angry that I’ve suffered unnecessarily for over 2 years. I’ve been to a urologist and various gynaecologists, using various creams, also cortisone cream, until finally the other day, I was was listening to an interview with an American doctor called Menopause Taylor (she’s on KZbin with many videos). She said the vagina shrinks and you are essentially losing an organ when it dries away. She said estrogen cream can make a world of difference. I called my latest gynaecologist this Friday morning and said I would like some estrogen cream before the weekend. I made sure I got it, and even just using it twice so far has made such a difference., thank god! However, in the package details, it says how this cream can cause all sorts of cancer, which I know to be untrue!

Untrue is right they are in the process of removing this ridiculous literature it only took 30 yrs. of study and it's still on there. I am glad to hear of your successful treatment with estrogen. I wish I could say the same none of the compounds worked for me I'm still 2 yrs later suffering. I think it's time for me to stop with appointments and go back to cold cloths and a bit of relief with Lidocaine.

Wearing incontinence pants and failure to drink sufficient water was also an issue. I miss Mum.

Dr. Renee, please give me your opinion. I just found this video today, and am very grateful for you and it. Until 4 years ago, I was taking HRT fir 11 years, and loved it, but had a heart attack. Since then, my doctor took me off if it, and will not ‘allow’ me to have it back. I am now 63, and apparently gave some atrophy. I did not have a heart attack due to blocked arteries, as I dad a SCAD, then a heart attack, and it has been discovered that I have ‘Fibromuscular Dysplasia’, which brought about the coronary artery dissection, and lots of clots. My doctor doesn’t want to chance me getting even a small clot again. However, I never had a clot while in HRT, or due to it. So, as a result, when I asked to at least if he will prescribe me some Estrogen Cream, he still says ‘no’! He feels that the Estrogen Cream can pass through into my blood system. I disagree. What do you think about this? What are my options? I am more than willing to chance using cream in my vagina to help make myself feel normalized. Please advise.

I am 55 and diabetic double whammy, miserable, glad to find your video, I am on vaginal estrogen, and with urine incontinent to boot. The answer per my gyno say this is all I need is estrogen. I hate that the second I have relationship it sparks up again a lot of “pain” dryness, itchy, raw and my labials feel like sandpaper. I wish my husband wouldn’t want sex anymore, I could live without it myself, but that’s not the case, sorry to be so somber. I thought I hated heavy periods and bad cramps growing up and thought that was the worst, I would take back a period and cramps for one day a month than this issue. I hate that after sex, even with extra Lubricants it absorbs fast anyway. Doesn’t last, I still need to run to restroom. I hate the smell and need to rinse or sit in lukewarm water to soothe😢Question; what is ok to wash with besides water? Question: Laser “Mona Lisa” treatment is recommended? What do you know of this ? I have vaginal atrophy and started estriol vaginally for terrible itching. After being on the estriol for a few months, I am now getting migraines as I slowly increase my dosage to the 2 grams twice a week prescribed. Happy about the itching decreasing, but bummed about the migraines. I am wondering if the migraines will be a temporary issue that I need to deal with, and what I can do to rid this problem. I definitely do not want to go off of the estriol since I am getting long needed relief for the itching that drove me insane.
@DrRenee
@DrRenee 3 жыл бұрын
Christine Swanson Are you in the UK? That’s quite a big dose. In the UK we use 0.1% and we use a small applicator 3x a week. At this dose we do not usually see enough systematic absorption to affect symptoms such as migraines etc. I would suggest lowering the dose and seeing if it is definitely the vaginal oestrogen. It could be that your systemic hormone level is dropping simultaneously and that is actually the cause of the migraines and this could mean that you need HRT systemically to help. However, this is very generic information and you should have these discussions with your doctor and any changes made in conjunction with them.

You are not too old for HRT but your GP. would need to do a risk assessment. HRT may help. If your GP doesn't help, ask to be referred to a menopause clinic. R

@ritabrophy3755...I'm (70) been having Mona Lisa treatments by my urologist for couple of years every 6 months to a year. These treatments work wonderfully. My insurance covers all but around $20 for office visit otherwise cost would be $300 and doctor charges $250 for procedure I pay out of pocket and well worth it.

I think as i have had troubles for some time you must first clean up your diet. Your gut microbiome is what needs the fix. So modern food and drink not good. Whole food, low sugar,carbs and no booze and fasting. Fixes your HBP, BG . and amazingly plumps up the area. Coconut oil stops the utis and itching and dryness. Very soothing and naturally antiseptic. A bidet works wonders for older people as well to get good and clean. Straight up water. Too many chemicals will cause trouble....

What diet would you recommend? I've read about the keto diet ..low carb. No grains. Is it good long term?
@deborahhebblethwaite1865
@deborahhebblethwaite1865 3 жыл бұрын
@@pennyc7064 peoples bodies differ with particular foods. I cannot do wheat and most dairy. I wouldnt say i am keto, just not much starch. If you do grains they must be the whole grain sprouted preferably and cooked. So that leaves out breads, pastas as they are somewhat processed. Just try eating lots of vegetables, protein of choice, nuts, seeds, meat, fish, eggs. Fruit is good in moderation but not fruit juice. And the biggie sugar. I can do a bit of honey or maple syrup but not too much. Basically eat food minimally processed or not at all processed. Keto works for lots of people even long term but not everyone.... whole oats are good for me so i cook the groats adding seeds, nuts etc for a hearty meal. Again it is what your body tolerates as well.

Hi Bridget. I am sorry that you are low. I would advise reading up on oestrogen and i found Oestrogen Matters a good and well referenced book. You don't sy what cancer you had and so it is difficult to comment further. The systemic absorption of topical oestrogen is tiny and some oncologists are not up to date with data and so err on the side of caution. You do need a quality of life too.

Yes. Listen to The video. Seek out Rachel Rubin MD, Kelly Casperson MD, Louise Newson MD. Vaginal estrogen is extremely safe and all women age 45 and over should be using (as well as younger women who’ve been through menopause or in perimenopause.)

I had emergency hyst at 33 sub total due to placenta accreta which was undiognosed though I was having detailed scans for past baby no kidneys so how they missed the placenta I dont know. Thank you

Unbelievable! One would think a woman might have a bit more feeling and compassion for these specific to women problems! But none of my gynaecologists here in Germany have suggested estrogen cream! I finally had to insist on it just days ago, after watching a video interview on KZbin with an American doctor called Menopause Taylor. The lightbulb went on and I called right away and made sure I got that cream that day. Even just after a few days, the pain is less.

Hi. I’m so sorry to hear this. Your doctor needs to refer you to a menopause clinic and you should demand this. Not only is it safe for someone who has had a provoked blood clot to have vaginal oestrogen, with careful risk evaluation, transdermal oestrogen could be considered. A menopause clinic will do this. You could also consider laser (expensive but works) and the Linton are Jane is so well versed in. Yes OB is very good. Good luck x
