In several occasions Jane shows this particular expression when he learns Lisbon is or has been the center of attention to other guys like when he teased her about Bosco's "no accounting for taste" remark, or when he was introduced to her ex-fiance he looked at her with his trademark glances discovering her "heartbreaker" quality. And here, he keeps bringing up the W. Mushburn obsession in a sort of a similar tone (remember the turtleneck effect? ): Sometimes the act of overemphasizing on the same habit over and over again does not necessarily mean he really amuses it. It could indicate something irritates him but his approach usually is to camouflage with a smile and even further by pushing an extra act that makes him appear like he is so so cool about it. He has this attitude where he drives himself to push these notions to the far edge where he awaits to see "the incident" that finally proves him wrong or that proves that Lisbon won't let herself be driven away by other men's evident obsession.

@@smurfyday You know, some philosophers see it as a common modern desease: when a person is able to grasp only the outer form of anything (a dialogue, a movie scene etc) and is totally unaware of it's inner meaning (+ subtext and metatext). It's actually quite tragic - this failure of normal communication, it affects all our relationships, and these discussions here (about 'fictional' characters) are only a reflection of how a lot of people have everyday troubles with their family/job/friends communication. So for me it's really sad when I read lots of comments about 'Jane and Lisbon' being like siblings or 'Erica/Lorelei were best choices for Jane' etc. Sad.

I liked Lisbon getting a love interest but did think Mashburn “falling” for her was odd. Didn’t he like well maintained, groomed, mostly plastic women? Lisbon is far away from that and barely has her hair done. I think she would fall for him may be as a ONS. What happened to him? I'm sure he is chasing women still.
