Nirvana literally changed EVERYTHING in Pop Culture in 1991-92. By 1993? GenX teens & 20 somethings had turned 60s/70s & 80s into Halloween costumes. U can't undermine Nirvana's influence to this very day. Fr movies to music to style to even Baby Boomers dressing alot cooler. 1989-94? Quickest Pop Culture shift in such short time in American history. Look at Teens today, lol. Shit both my teenage daughters. Dressing EXACTLY what we wore as Teens in the Early-mid 1990s. Also my daughters & their friends? Only listen Early-mid 1990s Rock & Hip-Hop. Not a Generation basher, but I won't buy or wear Jordans anymore. I had new pair Jordans fr 7th grade in 1989-2012 every year. Lol..GenZ imo has completely KILLED Jordans coolness/street cred. It sucks... oh well. I still wear my Duffs...(skater shoes) Imo? 500yrs fr now? They will STILL be influenced by Early-mid 1990s EVERYTHING. 1991-95 was quite a special time to be a Teenager or 20 something.

Jane’s was my first concert. Had to make the trek from southern Idaho to Salt Lake City, and my high school basketball coach punished me for missing the one practice by not letting me start at the next game. It was still the best choice I ever made in that stage of life. The concert was beyond amazing, including being introduced to Primus for the opener, and despite the supposed “hurt I was doing to the team” with his chosen discipline I scored a season high and we won that next game. I made sure to tell the coach it was due to the abundance of inspiration I gained from my experience. He never brought it up again, and I played Jane’s Addiction in the locker room for the rest of the season.

Nice dude, you freaking RULE!! I was a basketball player too, in my blood stream but I had an experience kind of like yours. I was also the lead in many high school plays. But one day there were auditions for a play and the director had chosen me to play a certain character even before auditions. But I needed to go to a concert. So she told me, just show up, you don't even have to audition. I chose the concert and wasn't cast in the play. Rock and Roll over school, YES!!

Then my girlfriend turned me on to Jerry G. and then the band was always the dead following me. In college Jane's Addiction was one of my favorites. I now live in a town where Blind Melons front man is from and sad I never got to meet him. Jane's Addiction is great story w taking his brothers name and the way Perry got the house -Wilton and the rest is iconic history

I’ve listened to thousands of records in my 55 yrs. I would rank Nothings Shocking in my top 10. That particular record is a masterpiece. I never see that record or the band ranked in any of the “greatest” lists. I have to agree that they don’t get the recognition they deserve. Legendary groups are judged on what they did in their time when they were relevant, not on what they’ve done recently. They were an incredible live band and influenced a generation of people that “got it” whether they made any greatest lists or not.

They were the first "alternative rock" band to really make it big and Lollapalooza was a huge game changer before Nirvana Nevermind. Later, I think they got overshadowed by Nirvana. I love Nirvana but I was a bigger Jane's fan in 1991 and 1992 when Nirvana really took off.

In 1989 I first heard Ted Just Admit It, and it changed music for me forever. I started playing bass 4 years before and I had never heard anything like it. I still play, and still to this day Eric is my favorite bassist. Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual..? Try to imagine any of those songs without him driving with those amazing bass lines. All that shit was all him. Such an incredibly underrated and unappreciated musician. Anyone remember the Deconstruction album Eric and Dave made after he left the band?

Avery was the foundation.. The riffs he brought forward laid the foundation for the rest of the group to build on.. Hence, everything post Avery never delivered in the same way.. Yes! Deconstruction, what a great album.. Never got it's due.. Still have LA Song & others in regular rotation...

Deconstruction is an immensely beautiful record. Just as good as Jane's classics. Polar Bear is great also. I have all of those albums in my collection. I have liked basically everything any member did after Jane's up to around 2001. After that it gets mixed, some good tunes. The new Jane's song does sound nice.

I saw Jane's earlier this year. And without a doubt they changed the way I listen to music. I'd heard them growing up quite often but It was just unreal. I was at barricade and multiple times throughout the set he smiled and sung and waved to me and my boyfriend. I had chills the whole time. Towards the end that was their first break up, Jane's Addiction had concerts lined up for their first tour of Australia. The would break up before coming to Australia but told everyone to hang on to their tickets with Jane's Addiction coming to Australia maybe about 2 months later & honoured their commitment which I absolutely loved them for. Also it made me believe that they realised they were just too good to split up, it kept me hoping, but alas... The Melbourne concert went right off with everyone hoping this wouldn't be the last we would see of them especially as a short time later Jane's Addiction would release a compilation album of rare tracks.

This was really well done. I’ve been a massive fan of their music since the early 90s, but I’ve never known much about the band itself, other than the obvious drug overtones. I saw this movie called “The Gift” back in the late 90s that they did that I believe is sort of hard to come across nowadays. It was about the band and Perry Farrell losing his gf to a drug overdose and there are these great live clips of the band that are super intense…I’ve looked for it a few times and, to this day, have never been able to find it for purchase. Anyways, I believe Janes Addiction’s influence has been massively underrated over the years…I still absolutely love the intensity of that first live album!

I saw Jane’s Addiction in a small club in Boston shortly after their first album was released. I was there to see the opening band and luckily we stayed to check them out. They were so good I got the cd the very next day. Awesome. You won’t find an experience like that today. That’s sad but Jane was great.

Not many bands can boast of not releasing a single shitty album in the eighties. Let alone even making a remarkable album on that decade. Like many kids in my generation - X - I spent my teenage & young adult life going to see shows. And over all that time, I never witnessed a more eclectic & diverse crowd than I saw at my first Jane’s Addiction show in the fall of 89. From mullet wearing metal heads to mohawked punks… from blacked out goths to rainbowed hippies… from skaters & surfers to nerds & geeks… new wavers, preps, gays, stoners & jocks… Slayer patches on jean jackets & Deadhead logo tie dyes to Public Enemy, Smiths & Black Flag tees. It was truly an amalgamation of every facet of that moment’s underground together in one place & time, to witness a bad ass band everyone could agree on. Years later, I still can’t think of any other band or artist that was or is capable of that. It was truly both a beautiful thing to witness & cool as hell to be a part of. And that’ll always be what I think of when someone says their name or plays their music.

I discovered them when I was in ninth grade! Sometime between the fall of 1988 or the spring of 89 I acquired a Nothing Shocking cassette tape that came with my monthly subscription of Thrasher magazine . I grabbed my skate and headed over to my buddies house where I knew a few friends were hanging out. We popped the tape in, and just like that fans were born! 🤘

I remember seeing them at this small Greek theatre in LA called John Anson Ford. What a show! Saw them over 10 times and that was special. Loads of drugs and I was a deadhead too.

Janes has been one of my favorite bands since high school in the 90's. There's something absolutely perfect there. A truly alternative rock band. I think it wouldve boiled down to them and Nirvana as kings if theyd continued into the 90's

Saw Jane's Addiction at small club called the Underground in 1988. They were touring for Nothing Shocking. They put on quite a show and they definitely weren't famous yet.

I remember 12 years old on dirt bike track riding, all the sudden bikes are going the wrong way on the track, almost hit head on with Avery. Those guys were a blast, looking back they were all high as a kite, happy and lucky something bad didn't happen that day, thx for memories Jane's addiction

OHM bridges the sonic gap between BSSM and Californication, although John Frusciante would never admit that. Because of this, OHM is one of RHCP's most important and most unique albums. Grossly underrated.

I knew Perry’s family as we lived in the same condo building back in 90’s. I knew one of his sister’s for over a year before I found out they were related (different last names). We would go out to dance clubs with a group of friends and one day I went to her house and happen to catch albums records on the wall. I asked why her parents have JA albums on the wall. She nonchalantly says it’s her brother’s band. His family was surprised one day when we were all at the condo pool and I was listening to his CD. I guess they never met anyone that was a fan. Keep in mind this was around 1993. I saw his family album and met his other sister, father and mother. I believe one of the parents was a step. His sister could care less about his music and was into top 40 pop. He came to vist a few times and I would always missed a chance to meet him. It would have been cool to say hi.
