I LOVE Jose's channel! The retrospectives are my favorite videos to do, so I'm glad that anyone is watching them at all. Thanks so much for being here ❤️

Your channel is so awesome! I rarely comment, but I rarely can find people discussing black tv shows let alone black people that truly paved a way and made an impactful difference! Shows such as girlfriends, in living color, my wife and kids, Damon, living single, a different world, family matters, 227, good times, etc. are so nostalgic and meaningful and I feel they should be discussed in this way. Unfortunately most got cancelled, but I appreciate your dedication, taking to time to rewatch and provide such a detailed and concise review about these people and shows. I’m so happy I found your channel :)

Oh and another error I noticed, in season 6 ep 8 Dewayne asked Ron did he want an extra slab of ribs from Renee’s, but back in season 5 Renee’s was closed permanently, and he ended up homeless. So I guess my next question was, did they open back up, is he still homeless? It made no sense.

Great video and retrospective! Loved this show. I was 8 when it first aired & never missed an episode. Besides the Boondocks, it has the most subcultures of black America I’ve seen on a show.

Happy Black History Month y’all. There are some small errors in the captions and editing in this video and for that, I’m really sorry. I couldn’t catch them all and my computer would NOT let me export the video again. The errors shouldn’t impact your ability to understand and enjoy the video. Than you for watching. I'm a huge "A Different World" fan and enjoyed your retrospective. You know what I never understood? Denise Huxtable (on "The Cosby Show") was flighty, but she was smart and a good student. She had a different style and flair. Denise at Hillman wasn't a good student, seemed extra clueless and always liked sloppy. After Debbie Allen took over producing and directing, AND the cast was refocused and changed, the show became SO good. Iconic. It's one of my favorite shows. ❤

I binged this show for thw first time last year, and i fell in love. I had seen later series episodes here and there, but i had mever properly paid attention to the show. If i had watched this show when it was airing, or even in my youth in general, i likely wouldve applied myself better academically, and i wouldve definitely wanted to have the hbcu experience.

Also another continuity error that you didn’t mention: In the early seasons with Freddie, she mentions that she’s a vegetarian, but in the season 2 or 3 when they’re in the cafe celebrating Whitley’s birthday she orders a bacon cheeseburger, then she orders tuna. This happens a few times throughout the series, but I’m just curious to know was that meant to be in the script or was this a mistake that went unnoticed.

a great funny and inspirational sitcom (it had followed the "Cosby Show,"); did it inspire African-American people to go/attend a private HBCU college, like a: Howard, Hampton, Spellman orClark Atlanta U. ? I hope so... ; I like the Dwayne and Ron friendship; Freddie Brooks = Cree Summer (she did the voice over of Penny for "Inspector Gadget"); Whitly Gilbert-Wayne ("Designing Women" southern belle vibes); ""Motormouth" Maggie (Lauten) = Marisa Tomei (was great as "Mona Lisa Vito" in "My Cousin Vinny (1992," with: Joe Pesci, Fred Gwynne ("The Munsters": Herman Munster (1964-1966); I liked Vernon Gaines (Lou Meyers), "The Pit" campus cafeteria owner; he's got some great (funny) lines. "School Daze" (I still haven't seen that great Spike Lee (debut) joint/film. I liked the Wayans cameos (they are legends, in the comedy (sketch/variety show, "In Living Color") game). Debbie Allen (her dancing choreographer / producer).

Cougar (that was a good character to play). Thomas Mikal Ford (he was in "Martin" with: the lead, comic/actor Martin Lawrence; two real-life friends Tisha Campbell ("My Wife and Kids") and Tichina Arnold ("Everybody Hates Chris"), Carl Payne ("Roach" from "The Cosby Show"), Garrett Morris ("Two Broke Girls") ) ; David Alan Grier ("In Living Color"); Martin and In Living Color (the "African-American SNL") were two great FOX tv shows, much like: "ROC" (with Charles S. Dutton), or "Living Single" (it was a rival program to NBC's "Friends"; unlike "Seinfeld"). "Living Single" had featured Queen Latifah (Khadijah James: Flava magazine editor), Kim Coles (Synclaire James-Jones; "In Living Color"), Erika Alexander (Maxine Shaw), Kim Fields (Regine Hunter; "The Facts of Life" from the 1980's), TC Carson (slick Kyle Barker), John Henton (Overton Jones). John Leguizamo's "House of Buggin'" sketch show which came on after "In Living Color" got cancelled; the latter was before "Mad TV" had started. who remembers these other channels ?: the WB, UPN; now, there is only the CW and BET. Girlfriends (Tracee Ellis Ross ("Blackish"), Golden Brooks, Persia White, Jill Marie Jones); Moesha (Brandy), Hangin' with Mr. Cooper (Mark Curry, Holly Robinson Peete, Raven-Symoné) = ABC; "Full House" producer from "Full House" (Jeff Franklin) ) and Sister Sister (Tia and Tamera Mowry). what a great Deep Dive on this show. Damn, you have outdid yourself; I gotta give you your Props...

Great, well-detailed video! My only disagreement is with the statement that Freddie and Shaza end up together and have kids, I don’t think this happened.
@JaneforShort3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! They did end up together according to the clips the cast did when the show would air on Nick at Night. Cree Summer did one in character as Freddie and talked about it. There was also one with Whitley and Dwayne and one with Ron becoming Mayor.
@judy100013 жыл бұрын
@@JaneforShort I don’t know, it always felt like Ron and Freddie were endgame, like the opposites that definitely attracted lol The series ended with Ron and Freddie whereas the 6th season to my knowledge had no mention of Shaza at the end 🤷🏾♀️
@JaneforShort3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Ron and Freddie were together in season six. But according to clips that aired on Nick at Nite while re runs played, Shaza and Freddie end up together. I'm assuming the clips were recorded in the early 2000s. I couldn't find Freddie's clip, but here is one about Jaleesa as an example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYCccoOZqtenoMU
