The thing with Janet, is that when she sings live, she sounds exactly like her records. Which is why people have a hard time believing she can actually sing or that she is not lip-syncing. And though she is not a belter, she creates killer harmonies with her background vocals, which brings so much depth and dimension to her music. Therein lies her talent. Gotta love that lady!

Jimmy Jam brought out a good point about her voice. He said it’s not that Janet can’t sing, she has the type of voice that you can sing along with. Like Diana Ross & Ciara & Britney. You can’t sing along with a voice like Whitney’s or Mariah’s or Aretha’s(no matter how hard you try lol). You just listen to them sing & you’re captivated. But that’s part of the reason Janet’s musical career is successful. Everybody wants to sing along to a Janet song(Control, Nasty, I Get So Lonely). I totally agree with him.

Not every female singer has to sound like Aretha Franklin. Janet does her own thang and it works for her. Is Smokey Robinson a power house singer? Her voice sounds different then the rest...I really wish people would stop saying she has weak vocals or this mess like stop it can't you just appreciate her for who she is. Most of the haters are fans of artists I wouldn't even bring up cause a herd would follow but anyway it's Ms. Jackson if ya nasty 4 life. Love.
@Musicball
@Musicball 8 жыл бұрын
+Benjamin De Cruz No one would think to come for Smokey in this way because he's a man. The men singers are allowed to be diverse. Even the white female singers are allowed to have diversity. But the Black women singers? Apparently they all have to sound the same, with big, soaring vocals. That's great if you're Aretha, Patti, Etta, etc, because that's how God created them. The others are just as talented with the voices God meant for them to have. I think the people comparing everyone all the time are insecure about their own lives.

+Benjamin De Cruz I Love her voice it's so polished and she's a perfectionist with raw distinctive and unique vocals that cannot be imitated or duplicated. Trust there's so many who would die for Janet's brand period. Janet brand is unbreakable untouchable and a triple threat I Love the fact she doesn't screech and scream and try so hard. Hell Janet does this with ease, perfection and with Love. #TeamJanet "Peace"

Janet has never been a belter/vocalist like Whitney and Mariah but what her voice lacked in power, she made up for with versatility. Think about the smooth R&B of "That's The Way..." and "I Get Lonely", or her pop vocals on "All For You", or how bout her rock vocals on "Black Cat" and "Scream". Have people been deaf all these years? Stop comparing and just listen to her songs and you'll see how unique her voice is. :)

+lenzino7383 Exactly, in fact she was Oscar nominated for her song `Again` from Poetic Justice....it`s all about how a singer can convey a song to an audience....a person can scream to the top of their lungs, but it doesn`t mean they are the best singer....A whole lot of powerhouse vocalist don`t have an Oscar nor Oscar nominated song...but Janet is an Oscar Nominee for her vocals on Again.

This was an awesome performance. The reason why "some" people have said that Janet Jackson can't sing is because her voice is soft and pretty. She is not a "Powerhouse" singer or someone who does a lot of vocal runs and screams all the time. However, she sounds professional, has a beautiful tone and quality to her voice. This performance was perfect vocally.

What a blessing it is to have had this beautiful woman in our lifetime.

JANET Voice is so beautiful, listen to her tone, pitch and her texture is amazing. She amazing singer in my opinion. she has a nice range and very good control. Britney on the other hand lack vocal control, flat and cant hold notes at all. Britney needs vocal training badly and some talent. Janet is a Jackson who been praised for recording by the industry best.

Britney was a trained vocalist and was well on her way to broadway before she got signed. She’s a great emotional singer and it showed in her live performances before she got huge. She sang live and strong. But what you hear now is the result of singing improperly for years for the sake of the sound coupled with the constant dancing. The industry fucked her out of her gift. But she’s got one of the most recognizable voices in music because of it

Also she was naturally an alto. Her sweet notes were midbelts but that wasn’t commercial pop enough for the producers. In a sense they were right as far as sales. She’s got the top spot on debutes and the one she beat out for it was Whitney Houston.

I can hear her all day. Im classically trained but r&b is my favorite bc of the sweetness and sensuality of it's singing. And Janet has that. She gives herself in her singing and sweet , pretty and makes me smile. Oh and it takes a real singer to have great pitch and a natural ability to instinctually harmonize to create a cohesive sound. She has more charisma and beauty in her voice than most of these immature female singers today who sound like nasal girlish brats. Whoever says she can't sing clearly does not know how to sing.

Swear nobody in KZbin comments knows anything about singing, music, beauty, or art. Everyone’s so blinded as to what the mainstream has deemed to be “good” or “talented” that they completely overlook anything else that could possibly be skillful and artistic. NO - She does not nor will ever sing like Whitney, Mariah, Patti, Tina, etc etc etc. The voice that Janet has - *TO ME PERSONALLY* - is like nothing I’ve ever heard in any other female artist before. Mainstream media usually portrays “amazing” “talented” female vocalists as quite strong, soulful, bring the house down type singers. But when Janet sings, it’s as if I’m listening to a woman’s sensual whisper; and yet she’s SINGING like that... there’s such a sensitive, inviting, gentle beauty in the softness of her singing voice... but it’s not only that feminine whispery aspect that makes it so captivating to me though, it’s the way in which she manipulates that high pitched serene softness with such precise skill, how she goes about painting the tones and keys of the music with an artistry, & talent that is hers and hers alone - and yet never having to use any heavy-handedness with her voice whatsoever in order to deliver the performance of the songs she sings in that unique and artistically beautiful way that IS JUST AS impressive, skillful, talented, and awe inspiring AS those stronger voiced singers like I mentioned before... and *THAT* is what makes her the *absolute unique one of a kind vocalist that she is* ... to me at least. And I will never stop being infinitely grateful over having been so blessed to have seen and heard her perform her artistry live and in the flesh right before me during her Unbreakable Tour a few years back!

Janet has a own unique voice and she knows how to do it out of her own heart of melody with a beat of drums , dancing while singing , piano playing , sitting on the stool and sing , or doing with out music she do it all with her own way and we love it all keep up a good work and never mind of the haters .

I wish Janet would do one live version like this of a ballad, off of every CD she has. I really love her voice, so fun to sing along with!!

So True! People think that Janet is just a small little voice, but she is VERY versatile with her voice. I mean she can go from this "I Get Lonely" to "Black Cat" soundin like a rockstar in the matter of seconds. That's true artistry and ability.

Janet should slow her tour down if she continues to tour after having her baby, and pick the right songs for an acoustic segment of the tour, songs like this one, Alright, Enjoy, When I Think of you, Nothing, No Sleep, Got til it's Gone, just to name a few.

Still here in 2018! Performing this song in 1 week ❤ at a huge event. janet is a legend and she has given me hope! I have the same vocal tone and it took me years to believe in my voice. I'm not a powerhouse but my angelic tone is a gift. Luv this live performance!

She is amazing. It's always great to hear her sit down and sing a live performance. That's more proof that she's not dependent on heavy production and dance moves to give a great performance.

One of her best performances. Loved that she stripped it down and sang. Janet may not be Mariah or Chaka but this is proof that she can sing and what we hear on her albums is not so far from the truth.
