bih kat I’ve come to realized this. Everyone is influenced..... Paula was a good Choreographer But you would be stunned 😳 at the unsung. Talent both MJ and his Entire tribe incorporated.... These people are disciplined I see Fela Kuti, Fred Astaire, Paula Abdul is also a great dancer 💃 but I wouldn’t site Her as the muse .... Janet’s five brothers Maybe influenced her 😻 (no shade to Paula

Paula Abdul met Janet because she'd done some choreography for the Jackson's and her brothers thought so much of Paula's work and thought she'd work well with Janet and she choreographed 2 videos for Janet. No one can teach someone how to dance, they can show you the steps or choreography but you either have or you don't, just like singing. What's really interesting is that MJ has used many choreographers but no one has ever said any of them choreographers taught him how to dance and Janet's no different!

This album is I feel one of the most under-rated albums of all time. It has hit after hit and no fillers. Now so many years have gone by the social problems the album touches upon are still present and possibly worse. Sad that Janet became the fall girl after the Super Bowel performance. Timberlake was untouched which spooks me. This girl deserves a total second chance at the top pin. No one today could pull off a album like Rhythm Nation. Sadly I rarely ever hear the songs off this album on the radio. If your a young thing it's a must have album to key into.

The album wasn't underrated at the time of its release. But you are right; I would say that now, it has disappeared from hearing pleasure, which is so sad because it is very iconic and the "conscious" songs are very much relevant today. Shame on the music industry for hiding this gem. JERKS!

leokimvideo If it's any consolation, I think this song (among Janet's best) is solidly in place among the classics that people still love to hear. When Joseph Gordon-Levitt danced to this on LipSync Battle, it was clear that the audience response to the song was just out-of-control (and props to Joseph for putting in the effort to learn the difficult choreography, although he must have danced to it too when he was still a kid). Bottom line: Janet is still very much a legend, Timberlake is not, and most likely will never be.

Iconic? Perhaps, but it just looks like a knock-off of Michael J's "robotic" staccato choreography, to my eyes anyway. Also, *very* distracting: makes it even _harder_ to try to make out the words she's singing if you're watching all that "twitching" as well! Actually, the whole song looks and feels like MJ, now I come to think of it … I expect I'm not the first person to say that, but this is the first time I've heard this song, or seen this video! But hey: if *you* enjoy it, then great! Just doesn't appeal to me in any way though, sorry.

Micahel had originally planned to do this in his own music video, but Janet asked Michael if it was ok that she used the idea of dancing in an "army" style for hers. So that's maybe why so many say that she is trying to be like her brother, because it was something he had planned to use for himself. So it's pretty similar something Michael would have done. Janet and Michael always highlighted their dancers..and it was always iconic. This video hit the scene and Janet became the ICON she is. She never gets the respect, acknowledgement, and love she deserves. She was what every pop star tried to become after her. She was the full package. I adore her.

Nester very few people actually want to put in that WORK. I grew up trying to do this video at home and it's pretty damn hard. Even if you get all the moves right, you get winded. Even when I search for people ATTEMPTING to do this choreography, they skip steps to make it easier. I've only seen one dance group get it sort of right and they were really young elementary school kids.

@Angel Johnson That is true, but in a strange way I do think that helped Rhythm Nation 1814. Because both these two albums were talking about the social problems of the world back then and they were able to bounce of each other extremely well. But the Rhythm Nation album was given far more acclaim than Phill Collins album "But Seriously...". Don't get me wrong I also like Phill Collins, but I felt that Another Day In Paradise didn't have the same appeal as Rhythm Nation even though it stopped it from hitting #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Not only that, but I find it very interesting that we are talking about Rhythm Nation1814 30 years after the album came out, but is anyone talking about But Seriously... 30 years later in the same way? The answer is NO, Rhythm Nation 1814 left a legacy behind, Phill Collins But Seriously... did not.

@@electrictroy2010 a black woman singing about racism in the 80s was not going to play well with the vast majority of white America. If Rhythm Nation was just a pop album without the socially conscious lyrics, it would have sold a lot more records and singles. "The songwriting and production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were the driving force behind this and many of Jackson's other hits of the era. They got the idea for the song after seeing news stories about the Stockton playground murders, when Patrick Purdy shot up a school playground in California and killed 5 children before turning the gun on himself. Jam and Lewis wanted to write a positive song focusing on the "Nation" of people they came across in New York dance clubs. These people came to the clubs from many different backgrounds and were united in their love for the music."

I know Janet did great selling her music in physical era but she deserves better numbers in this streaming era. I get why many artists don't care that much about this maybe because they get little payment from streaming platforms but still, It'd be nice to see these numbers increase, just like any other artists/bands that came in the 80s-90s. It shows their music appeal to today's generation. This video should've at least reached 500M views today.

I love the old school 80's 90's and hate that some of the streaming numbers are so far off. from albums that I have bought and loved I missed vinyl but yes I bought cassettes and CD's of the same album because itr' was not just 1 song it was multiple good songs with great ones mixed in. Or those albums that have a theme or total feel.

Janet is one of the artists who didn’t translate well into the streaming era. She was so massive in the 80’s and 90’s, but her viewership numbers are surprisingly low.

She’s not just Michael Jackson’s sister, she’s an equally talented artist in her own right.

I wish music was like this today, and I wish it actually had a meaning just like janet and Michaels songs
@idek3684

There are still songs with meaning though. Feel special by TWICE (talks about friendship), scream by Dreamcatcher(talks about bullying and harrassment), kings and queens by Ava max (supporting women), Wannabe by itzy(being yourself), and there are more but I can't name them all right now hehe. I get what you mean though. There are some songs with no meaning or anything, but not everything has to have a deep meaning.

DubuAndDVa thank you for the list of songs! I’ll go check them out! I was saying that most of today’s songs are only about like girls, drugs, and partying, you know? But I’ll make sure to check out this list of songs! ❤️❤️❤️

What's with the comparisons? We all know Beyonce looks up to Janet Jackson as a musical inspiration.

No shade to Janet or her legacy but I see no comparison between beyonce and Janet Jackson! Especially not vocally. Lol but Janet jackson most definitely inspired Ciara
@Gabyevo
@Gabyevo 9 жыл бұрын
Kristopher Davis The fact that they don't share the same vocal range doesn't take away the fact that Beyoncé looks up to her and quoted Janet as one of her main inspirations on several occasions. So you might not like Janet Jackson that much but know that she influenced a huge part of this industry, including Beyoncé.
