bih kat I’ve come to realized this. Everyone is influenced..... Paula was a good Choreographer But you would be stunned 😳 at the unsung. Talent both MJ and his Entire tribe incorporated.... These people are disciplined I see Fela Kuti, Fred Astaire, Paula Abdul is also a great dancer 💃 but I wouldn’t site Her as the muse .... Janet’s five brothers Maybe influenced her 😻 (no shade to Paula

Paula Abdul met Janet because she'd done some choreography for the Jackson's and her brothers thought so much of Paula's work and thought she'd work well with Janet and she choreographed 2 videos for Janet. No one can teach someone how to dance, they can show you the steps or choreography but you either have or you don't, just like singing. What's really interesting is that MJ has used many choreographers but no one has ever said any of them choreographers taught him how to dance and Janet's no different!

This song has one of the most powerful and important messages known to man. It is a testament to the fact that the world and the people should be united instead of divided. Despite everything that's been going on in the world, it's never too late to be an unbreakable unity. No matter the challenge, we can come back strong. Let this message speak from past, present, future, to forever.

This album is I feel one of the most under-rated albums of all time. It has hit after hit and no fillers. Now so many years have gone by the social problems the album touches upon are still present and possibly worse. Sad that Janet became the fall girl after the Super Bowel performance. Timberlake was untouched which spooks me. This girl deserves a total second chance at the top pin. No one today could pull off a album like Rhythm Nation. Sadly I rarely ever hear the songs off this album on the radio. If your a young thing it's a must have album to key into.
@LYBism

The album wasn't underrated at the time of its release. But you are right; I would say that now, it has disappeared from hearing pleasure, which is so sad because it is very iconic and the "conscious" songs are very much relevant today. Shame on the music industry for hiding this gem. JERKS!

leokimvideo If it's any consolation, I think this song (among Janet's best) is solidly in place among the classics that people still love to hear. When Joseph Gordon-Levitt danced to this on LipSync Battle, it was clear that the audience response to the song was just out-of-control (and props to Joseph for putting in the effort to learn the difficult choreography, although he must have danced to it too when he was still a kid). Bottom line: Janet is still very much a legend, Timberlake is not, and most likely will never be.

Iconic? Perhaps, but it just looks like a knock-off of Michael J's "robotic" staccato choreography, to my eyes anyway. Also, *very* distracting: makes it even _harder_ to try to make out the words she's singing if you're watching all that "twitching" as well! Actually, the whole song looks and feels like MJ, now I come to think of it … I expect I'm not the first person to say that, but this is the first time I've heard this song, or seen this video! But hey: if *you* enjoy it, then great! Just doesn't appeal to me in any way though, sorry.

Micahel had originally planned to do this in his own music video, but Janet asked Michael if it was ok that she used the idea of dancing in an "army" style for hers. So that's maybe why so many say that she is trying to be like her brother, because it was something he had planned to use for himself. So it's pretty similar something Michael would have done. Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, released on September 19, 1989 is a masterpiece, so much that every artist afterwards who tried to duplicate the choreography, vocals and music style never came close to topping it. No album released today comes close. Janet Jackson was and still is in Control.

The comments on this video are hilarious! Its Michael vs Janet which is insane because they loved each other and never had a jealous bone in their body about each others success. Michael once said that because they were so close, they often thought alike. Both came up with the military style but he let her run with it. There was no permission to give. You can be a Michael fan, w/o being Janet's and vice versa but battling them is ridiculous. Sure he was the King of Pop but don't act like Janet needed him to get where she was/is. Grow up people.

Song is fire but I wouldn't necessarily say the message of the song was ahead of it's time because racial injustice has always been prevalent in the US. It has never stopped being an issue since slavery times. It’s just that now we have smartphones to record everything and social media to share everything at a fast rate.

For sure. Not ahead but always relevant. It should have a come back. I wish I could blast it at a protest

I have seen Janet many times live and she is great. I was 15 the first time I saw her on the janet. tour in 1994. She will be back soon for the black diamond tour.

@@njt7117 Oh wow! Lucky you. As fierce as she is in her videos she always comes across so humble and shy in interviews. I hope I’ll get to see her one day. I had planned to go to her show last August in San Jose but Covid 🤦🏾‍♀️

As a sixteen year old girl when Rhythm Nation came out, it was a blast to dance to. Now, at forty-eight, I’m realizing the true beauty of this song. We’re at our best when we stand together. Our different races and ethnicities make the world a more interesting place. They don’t have to come between us.

I know exactly what you mean Dea, I was twenty when it came out. I'm fifty three now and I'll still blown away by how amazing this song and the album truly was. The Legacy that this album left behind is still felt by the people who were affected by it, like us. The lyrics of the songs and the messages she spoke couldn't be more true now as they were back then. 😊

They keep resetting her views even though she is part of the reason KZbin was created. The creator felt there should be an online viewing platform to share her little boob incident at the Super bowl. Then Les Noonvies or whatever his name black balled her from all media exposure...including YT.
