So here's my take on this - I have 5 siblings. I'm the youngest, and like Janet even though my parents were strict - I didn't get the full blow of abuse from them, especially from my Dad. However... my 3 brothers and 2 elder siblings (sister) ALL received serious abuse. I can only imagine I got away with it because I was the smallest, and by that stage my parents were already pretty tired themselves with the lashing out and beatings. So my experience and recollections will always be different from my elder siblings. So much so, one of my siblings committed suicide due to the abuse he encountered. I guess Janet wasn't as abused as the rest of them.

Totally agree with your assessment. However, as far as sexual assault and abuse. That wouldn't easily go away sure the parents may soften physically the one doing the molestating but he wouldn't stop sexually abusing his kids no matter if she is the youngest or not. So Janet would definitely have had an idea of whether her father was sexual abusing her as she was getting older. Maybe the fame helped significantly lessen that with janet. Janet had already came into money by the time she was 5. However, sexual deviant behavior doesn't just go away. I do agree with the physical abuse me being the youngest of five I didn't not get it as bad as my older brothers or my sister who was a year older than me.

One thing about being a sibling in a toxic family dynamic: every sibling will remember their upbringing from their own experience, and their own paradigm, and they will each see things from their own perspective. In a family as large as the Jacksons, it's not entirely unusual to hear tales from older siblings of a much harsher upbringing where they may have bore the brunt of their parents' beginning sojourns into rearing children, vs. the youngest siblings that end up with parents that have eventually softened a bit in their approach. I don't think there is any right or wrong viewpoint here, vs. the two sisters, because of age difference and separate formative experiences, simply have different recollections what happened to them personally.

Joe was abusive, but back then it was considered being tough and very disciplined. La Toya thought the same as all her other siblings, that it was typical serious discipline of an African American family which was how parents handled things back then. La Toya was forced to say these things by her abusive and controlling psycho husband and managerJack Gordon, who would beat and abuse her daily, and almost killed her, and would threaten to kill her as well as Michael and Janet if she didn't say these things about Joe, and later claimed Michael was a pedophile, all through the orchestration of Gordon. Janet said Joe whipped her only once, the older siblings were beaten sometimes but they moved on to have kids and live their lives while doing music on the side, unlike Michael and Janet who became massive superstars. The other siblings were beaten occasionally but not badly enough to consider it serious abuse. Personally, I would consider anything like that abuse, but the siblings took it a different way, except Michael. He got it the worst out of all the siblings, and that's why he was the only other one to speak out about Joe abusing him, and was telling the truth. La Toya went as far to accuse Joe of molesting her, those were lies mastermind by Gordon. La Toya was beaten sometimes like the other siblings, but Jack would force La Toya to exaggerate and go way further to suggest molestation. Those were lies. Michael could have become the biggest star in the world without Joe because he was born with the amazing talent, but I am sure, he wouldn't want that for himself, therefore it wouldn't have happened without Joe. Michael's life as the King of Pop and with that level of fame was a blessing and a curse. He wanted a normal life for sure, but I agree, Joe was way too abusive and forceful towards his kids, but it depends on how you took the abuse, especially as a kid in the 60s where many parents would discipline their kids like that. I feel terrible for Michael that he had to go through that, but he did what he would come to love, making music for millions of fans who idolized him. Him and Janet accomplished so much and though at first they were forced into the business by Joe, there was no going back. They had the talent and they had the passion for music after both went solo and fired Joe. And look what what they became, music legends. RIP Michael and love you Janet and she will always keep his spirit alive, as well as the other Jacksons. (Btw sorry this message turned out to be so long lol)

it’s important to remember that janet is the youngest. by the time she was born, joe was nearing his 50s. and according to janet, she was only hit once. so her perspective of joe is MUCH different that that of the first 7 children. by the time janet was born, i’m more than sure that joe was kind of tired out. but it’s always been confirmed that the older children got it the worst. even michael said that he didn’t get it nearly as bad as jackie and marlon, but when he did get beat, it was bad. and it stayed with him until he died i believe.

The problem with La Toya's allegations is the fact that she had (since then) admitted not all of them were true. She was forced to say and do certain things because she was in an abusive relationship. However, I do believe there were bits and pieces of truth. Not the things she said about Michael, but I do think that Joseph might have crossed the line several times (perhaps not with Janet, but certainly with MJ and the rest of the Jackson 5)

Y'all need to understand that what many of you believe constitutes child abuse used to be the standard "old school" approach to raising children back in the day. Janet has stated that in other interviews and she's even expressed disapproval over how certain things were handled by her parents - however, I get the feeling she tries to make the best of whatever happened and tries not to rub more salt in the wound. Also, La Toya claimed far more than physical abuse, she even went as far as claiming she and Janet were abused sexually.

Michael said Joe is a better grandfather than a father and he has mellowed over the years. I know they reconciled their differences around 2003. Even when he was talking about Joe's abuse he said he was still a genius and credited Joe for his success as a performer but that still doesn't mean he should be excused for his other 'discipline' methods.
