This gem gets so little airtime on classical music platforms. Beethoven's chamber music is of the highest quality and deserves more exposure to our ears.

I remember paying horn in this piece at school during a turbulent time in College in the late 60's. What a mental, emotional, and spiritual oasis this music gave me then, and ever since. Beethoven and this piece will still be played and appreciated with fervor decades and centuries after the pop artists of our day are long forgotten.

+Terence CLARK Hi Terence. If you're into vinyl, and I sincerely hope you are, there are a number of fine recordings of this piece available on used LP's at ebay. I happen to really like the version by The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields Chamber Ensemble on the Philips label. There are also quite a few performances on CD and SACD at Amazon. I would avoid digital media, though. Digital has never gotten string sound right. I think it's a problem with their upper harmonic structure not being rendered correctly. Jeff

Great interpretation of the Septimino! . The great deaf man composed a more intimate version (op. 38): a concerto for piano, cello and clarinet that I recommend in the version that can be heard on this site by Andreas Ottensamer, Sol Gabetta and Dejan Lazić (live). It is incredible that the same music causes such dissimilar and sublime aesthetic pleasures!

Beethoven is susceptible to being performed pedestrianously. Needs his beat with varying sensitive tempo and above all played by players who are enjoying themselves. This is a good performance. Well done. The second movement is superb.

Amazing performance, anchored by Jansen's incomparable ensemble playing - leading and blending perfectly - and Martin Fröst's clarinet playing. He's the best clarinetist on the planet, possibly the best that ever lived. This piece does not show off the full range of his technique, which one of Chicago Symphony clarinetists called "freakish." I'm relieved he missed an entrance - it means he's actually human after all.

@@Leofiora Of course ! One of my personal favorites. I know the castle where he probably wrote his two first symphonies and some of his symphonic poems in 1842. It is the castle Stjärnholm outside Nyköping on the Swedish East Coast, where Berwald and his young wife spent the summer in 1842. Berwald was invited by the local landlord. Today the castle is owned asnd used by the Swedish Church and open to public. stjarnholm.se/

Wonderful performance. The filming of it was disappointing to me, however. Certain "favorite" performers were over filmed and the bass, cello, viola and horn were almost ignored even in some of their solos. Gee, I hate to complain like this but a little more care in the filming would have made this video spectacular.

For those complaining about the audio on this, check either your audio settings or your audio card, or use better earphones. The sound is very naturally balanced, with a natural dynamic range. You just need to listen with better equipment.
@lymanmj5 жыл бұрын
I have excellent speakers and sound board. The problem is the microphone placements. I had to tweak the balance quite a bit to try to get Janine into balance with the winds. Winds easily overpower strings, even for these excellent players. The mikes should have been rotated towards Janine and a bit away from Martin. I agree with ficktao: "Great performance, but lousy registration of it. Whomever (sic) recorded this should go back to sound-engineering school!"
