I always thought of Janis Ian as "The Mean Girl who Got Away" she never suffers the consequences from her plot on Regina apart from Cady not being her friend anymore and I'll be real I don't think she ever really liked her. I'm sorry, but I do not like Janis. Is she an icon of sorts? Yeah. Would you and could you trust her to be a good influence? Not really. Would you want her as a real life friend? I know I wouldn't! She's a mean girl, but she shields herself from the label by being unpopular, it's scary.

I didn’t really realize until years later, she was kind of the real antagonist to Kady. Kady was not aware of how the social circles in high school worked, she just followed Janis’ lead cuz she was the first nice person who talked to her. But Janis takes advantage of her naivety to spy on Regina and get back at her. Yeah Regina is a bitch, but Janis didn’t have to pull Kady into her years long grudge/hatred for Regina. I wasn’t even sure if she really wanted to get back at Regina for taking back Aaron, she just saw it as an opportunity to get Kady to go all in on their plotting to bring Regina down from her pedestal. When she doesn’t like the person Kady has become, she can really only blame herself cuz if it wasn’t for her (and Regina’s) influence on how a ‘popular girl’ or Plastic is supposed to behave, Kady would’ve stayed true to herself.
