2/2024..........Man does this bring me back. I'm 70,...and this was my music. Janis was really something else. An old soul reborn into that pretty young thing. What an amazing voice, and her energy was thrilling. If she had lived, she'd be 81 presently. I was a freshman in high school when she died in 1970.

Sorry , I can't let that blasphemy pass. Janis was great, might be in the same league as Aretha, maybe even a starter on a cellar dweller team,, but she wouldn't make All star status. Those would be Patti Labelle, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Nina Simone, and yes Whitney. and about 100 other great soul singers. Janis had a lot of energy and could sell a song, but her "instrument" was screechy scratchy, and her phrasing was not on par with the greats of soul. And Aretha is the GOAT. Almost every musician I know will tell you this, and would be bewildered at your claim. "What???" Janis was too often "over the top", out of control, and lacked the finesse and grace of the true greats of soul. Who , ME? , Racist? Whatever. I'm a white guy who bangs the blues on the piano pretty well, but I know that, singing the blues, I'm never going to get close to what Joe Williams, BB, the Alberts, Collins and King Lou Rawls and about 1000 guys that grew up in the church and had blues all around them, for breakfast lunch and dinner with their chitlins, while I had the Beatles Stones and Hendrix and Lawrence Welk in the background with Chateaubriand and scalloped potatoes, in the suburbs..... ...... reality check for you. Janis sang "soul and country influenced Blues-Rock". I know it's just a word, a genre, but it also is what it is. Rock music. Not for REALLIES soul, or blues,. No effing way. Not really even close. Tina Marie maybe, but not Janis. Janis in the same league as Greg Allman and Boz Scaggs, who are great, but also not GOAT level in soul and blues. But, I've seen Mariah Carey listed above Chaka on some lists, so, wtf do i know? Like the Dude said, "that's just like, your opinion , man".

I love you Janis. I believe you are alive, in that recliner. You changed my entire life when I was 25. Half my Life 😄 I started singing bc of you. Thaaaaaaaaank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I became a traveling puppeteer, but haven't got to sign in stage yet the songs I want to. I have my Gmas ACETATE record in my safe, no money, just my Gma's rejections from Patsy Cline Studios, all typed. Anyway, her songs are here, no money and nobody thatcares but me is waiting for a miracle. I never reach out. It's me, my furbabies and a few other people and a campground. I'd drive you all around the trails and make you some great grilled food, get you out on the pontoon. Life us short,I've almost died at least five times since first part f x of eclipse. Not drugs., and eclipsing, it's Time. It's time, Janis, to at least hang with me. I can't edit on this, but I did TRY, and I Tryyyyyyyyyyyd harder. I'm alive with songs and so are you.
