STG I’ve tried everything to save my curls while sleeping and NOTHING worked. Pineapple, Medusa clipping, bonnet only, everything. I tried the clips and bonnet trick last night and BOOM! It worked perfectly!! I even wore my bonnet for a while after I woke up because I was too scared to look at it 😂 Thank you, you marvelous genius you!!!

as someone who isn’t black but has 3b-3c curls, i am glad you gave credit where it is due. all my life i’ve looked up to black women for tips on curly hair since i’m one of the only ones in my family with such curly hair. 🙂💕

Me too!!! I started wearing my hair curly at a time when the only people wearing their hair curly and the only bloggers and influencers around that were educating on hair, were Black women. The credit for the curly world growing to the level it has, the knowledge that has been shared IS owed to them and the Natural hair movement!

@crazyanimalmama Жыл бұрын
@@Zainab-pe8qi I know it's been a few months since your comment but hopefully this helps.. First and best thing is to start watching all the curly and wavy hair videos you can find. Watch them all because it will give you 100+ unique or slightly different techniques to try. Start with whatever looks reasonable to you for the effort you want to put in and give it a try. Since your concerned with product cost I would suggest switching to a curly hair shampoo/conditioner since you already buy those products. Then focus on techniques more than products. Try to avoid brushing hair unless it's soaking wet and preferably with at least conditioner in it. Take your brush into the shower with you. Once you're familiar with the various options and have a few your comfortable doing. Consider adding the basic products (and they don't have to be pricey versions). Leave in conditioner is very important; tell your mother it helps detangle your hair she might like that if she doesn't like how you're hair is frizzy/tangled. Then you can go from there. But definitely work on how to care for your curls with videos like this and methods to decrease frizz and tangles.

It's true that the black community kept these strategies alive and accessible to everyone but it's not true that they are the only ones who've used fabric to wrap hair to protect it. Braiding and wrapping hair is seen in Asia (silk comes from China after all), indigenous peoples of Western and Eastern Europe, Native Americans and indigenous people in Oceania. Even as recently as during and at the end of WWII white women were wrapping their hair in cotton fabric to reduce how often they washed their hair due to war rations...that's where the hairstyle victory rolls came from. I had a friend in grade 6 who made her own bonnet from a pillowcase so she could sleep in a bit longer on school mornings. At that time (early 2000s) in Australia we'd never really seen a bonnet in our city school this was an idea that she thought of all on her own as a white early teen. I'm not saying that the black community doesn't deserve credit for perfecting curly hair care but what I am saying is humans of all races have found ways to protect hair throughout history so no one should feel uncomfortable about using a bonnet or a dutch braid or a satin pillow case.

THAT and when you're led to believe that it's just frizz or that your hair is just wrong. I'm tired of letting people telling me that wavy/curly hair is undesirable and ugly bc first of all I don't agree, and second of all, if I'm to love myself and take care of myself, that includes my hair as well. It's gotten very long (couple inches lower than waist), and I'm no longer willing to let people put me down for my hair. I've had to learn how to take care of it bc no one in my life knows how to so yeah.

THANK YOU! This was so helpful! I'm new in the curly-game and wore a bonnet at night so far. Mostly it's been working okay, but sometimes my hair would move around in the bonnet so I'd lie on the curls and they would look awful the next morning. The trick with the clips is brilliant! I wouldn't have gone near them on my own because I thought they'd be bothering me at night. But it works and now my hair doesn't move around in the bonnet.

My mind was blown when you shared “The Tube”! I have a buff and keep a bit of volume with my fine, med-low density 2b-3a/b curls... but it frizzes up. The fact that this tube thing is satin lined is a game changer! I will say, I am tempted to try the bonnet one more time, with the addition of the root clipping hack. I do have a satin pillowcases, to protect the nape and any little hairs that make their way out. But this is so awesome and helpful! Especially in these winter months!!! Thank you mamas, for all of your tips and energy. 🥰

I’m slowly trying to learn how to protect and style my curls. I got them from my dad and am the only one in my family who has curly hair. People always tell me my curls are so pretty but I only know how to get them to stay for one day on wash day. So this video will hopefully help me use the potential of my curls. Thank you so much.

I cant wait to try this. My hair is a mess! I pineappled last night and my hair had gnarly stringy waves that were stretched out.

I have SAME EXACT PROBLEM with a bonnet. It flattens out my crown. Gonna give the clips a try. Thanks!!!

Double pineapple 🤔 interesting. I'll try it. My problem with the regular pineapple is that my bottom curls are always stretched out. So far satin scarf and medusa clipping worked best for my hair. I always pin the scarf to my hair with bobby pins and it stays in place 90% of the time.

Thank you for this! I’m Puerto Rican and my momma has straight hair and my dad has very small curly hair! And none of them know anything about curly hair care lol. I’m starting to take care of my curls! This was very helpful! Thank you

I am doing the same and I'm puerto rican too! My mom is asian though so I have very confused hair lol. It's very curly right after i wash it then when i wake up it just goes flat so I'm going to try the bonnet and clips and see if it works!

Loved the video and respect for giving credit to Black Women. It’s not often that non Black curly girls share where these tips came from. Lastly, can’t wait to purchase my Afrona. Thanks for sharing the brand. Love to support women led businesses. Especially women of color.

So first I love your hairs volume! Second, thank you for this, I've been trying to find better ways than just the bonnet, and the clips with my bonnet might be perfect!

I had nearly straight hair until I was in my late 50s. After chemo, my hair gradually all fell out. As it grew back in, it was very curly. I had no idea what to do with it. I finally figured out how to wash and dry it, and what products seem to work the best. My hair is thin and fine, and never used to hold a curl so it's a struggle to take care of it, only to have a tangled knot in the morning. Thanks for your instructions on using the hair bonnet. If nothing else it should keep it from tangling.

Great video!! Now that my hair’s a little longer I can almost do a pineapple, I can do the clips and do have a bonnet that I wear. So really need to try pineapple w/bonnet! Thanks, Jannelle 😘
