You can get it many places. I buy from a local home store and cut the size I like. You can find it in art stores as well just search for "hard board". Many carry it. I have links in the video description for some on Amazon.

Yes, I do use an easel about half the time. I have a lot of video on the channel with me painting on an easel. For me it is whether I want to paint with long handle brushes or short handle. They can give different looks.

I struggle with the rose pedals. I mess with them to the point the whole rose is a solid circle. My pedals just don't look like yours! Of course, my daughter and I started painting because of COVID. LOL, we are not professionals but in delusional form, think we can do anything after watching one youtube video.

A lot depends on your type of paint and brush. Paints are made to do different things. The ones I use are made for these techniques. It also take a lot of practice Thank you so much 😀

What extender is best for blending/ My extender gets gooey quite fast, doesn't spread nicely and mucks up the paint brush. Also I am painting on a large canvas and I'm having trouble blending in the petals even when I use that extender. Can you advise any tips there

I have been a artist and paint chemist for over 30 years. Not all acrylics are the same. I have built systems for 3 different paint companies and they are not the same. You can't mix one companies brand of extender with another. Some may work, some may not. I only use Heritage and design products for the Heritage line. This is why they work so well. Stay within a system for the best results..

Both give different results. I use both depending on the look I want to have or the commission I am working on. Many clients like canvas even though wood panels were the most popular with the Dutch Master floral painters. Both work well.

I get them from my local wood store. It is called Super MDF wood panels.

I have a question for you. You have used the super MDF boards to paint on. I went to home depo and they had regular MDF boards but didn't seem to know what I meant when I asked for "Super" MDF. I bought some regular MDF boards and am going to try them out today. I hope they are as good quality as what you are using. If there is a difference Please let me know. Hi Brenda, Super MDF is just a lighter weight version of standard MDF. It really helps with larger boards. I use it a lot in the cabinet shop. Regular MDF works just fine.

Why do you prefer acrylics over oils and what brand is your favorite?

I use Heritage Acrylics because they use the same ground pigments as oils. I prefer acrylics because I use both 1/2 tone and layer techniques that are easier and faster to do with acrylics than oils. New generation acrylic can out perform oils for the techniques I use.

I use 1/8 inch Super MDF Panels. It is also called Ultralight. It is made from processed Pine. Very smooth and even. It doesn't need to be waterproof. That is what the Heritage base coat does to it. Think of it this way. Canvas panels are made with cardboard in the center.

I only use Heritage MultiMedia. Links are in the video description. Extender is a products that doesn't change the paint, it just slows down the drying time. Doesn't change the matte of the paint.

Hi David. It always amazes me how you can make the roses just "appear". I love the addition of the butterfly. I've watched so many of your videos on KZbin and own many of your books and videos. Yesterday I did my first ever acrylic painting, and thanks to your tutorial it ended up amazing! I can draw pretty acurately something, and can make a realistic drawing with pencils and even watercolor, but with acrylics I thought it'd be way more difficult, and even though I can find some mistakes with my strokes and tones, I'll get better with time, and it's all thanks to your lessons.Thank you!

So beautiful David, I'm an oil painter, but I have several people who have talked me into giving them lessons at the Craft Store. So I will be using acrylics, I'm feeling a little out of my comfort zone. Nice to hear you made the switch so successfully.

I love acrylics. You can do more with them than oils because with the new generation acrylics so can control the drying time better. Take a look at our Jansen At Facbook page. Today I just posted a new painting and it looks just like oils.
