I love the opening. I chuckled, rewound, and chuckled again. I like the raw, unedited edition of Jason's Sumo.

Ura v Toby??! Can my heart take such excitement? Matching Shodai with Teru is a smart move.

Hoshoryu is clearly on a mission this basho. Kotozakura looks like he just wants to go back to bed. Too many parties, appearances, interviews and obligations between bashos have likely worn him out. Teru looks soft. I agree he's not going to make it. Probably there more as a courtesy to perform the dohyō-iri for the new year than anything. He stepped off the dohyo very gingerly after the match today, his knees are shot. I know the feeling. Onosato? It almost seems like everyone has been watching film and has him figured out. Maybe he'll regroup but he also might be worn down by outside obligations. Shodai each match looks like he's already planning the menu in his head for his post retirement chanko restaurant.

So Wakatakakage dropped Atamifuji the same way i dropped Terunofuji day 1. If you have seen it now, you can picture it

Kinbozan make benefit most glorious nation of Kazakhstan! Hoshoryu is on fire, and I'd be shocked if he didn't come away with the yusho. I want to say his promotion to yokozuna would then be likely, but we all know how the JSA feels about non-Japanese rikishi. If Hoshoryu wins then I'd put his promotion chances at about 25-30%. Most likely, the JSA will make him win 2 in a row in order to get promoted to yokozuna.

Koto just hasn't looked right. Takanosho gave him all he could handle on day 1, and he's looked so tentative in his three losses. I didn't think too much of his lackluster training reports from Chris Sumo before, but there seems to be something wrong. I won't be surprised if he goes kyujo, especially if he loses to Shodai

When has an Ozeki won back to back 13 plus, with a win, and not got promoted?
@sumojason13 күн бұрын
Takakeisho is a recent example that's close... he went 12-3 in Sept 2020 and was runner up and then won the Nov 2020 basho with a 13-2 in a playoff with Terunofuji, but didn't get promoted.
@Okenshield6913 күн бұрын
@@sumojason I didn't say 12-3, I said 13+. What I'm saying is there's no precedent I can find for an Ozeki going 13+ wins back to back with a win and not getting promoted. Teru got promoted off a loss (the epic Hakuho match) after only a 12-3 win the previous basho. How would Hoshoryu winning this time with a 13-2 be any different? Both with 26 wins, both with 1 basho win. If Hoshoryu wins the basho and doesn't get promoted, it's personal, nothing to do with what happened on the dohyo.
@sounanya313 күн бұрын
kotozakura still has a 1% chance for yokozuna if he wins the yusho
