Good luck with the January reading. Ella Minnow Pea looks like fun... oh, I see some birds outside... :)

Hey it's so good to see you! I hope you're having an amazing school year. Ella Minnow Pea is a very clever book. It kind of gives the Orwellian feel too. I forgot to mention that in the video. I have to make sure it wasn't a hawk trying to get my hens. The last time there was a scuffle outside my library window it was TWO FOXES, in broad daylight, right next to our house. We live in crazy country land. Thank goodness it wasn't a bear! Thank you for dropping in. Much appreciated. Cheers to a fabulous 2025. 🎉

Happy New Year! I’m so glad you were able to work in my girl Pearl! My favorites so far (excluding The Good Earth): Peony, Pavilion of Women, Dragon Seed and Imperial Woman. I don’t much care for the novels set in America. Biography of someone you disagree with or dislike: I mean someone you feel in your gut that you disdain or whose world view/actions you consider destructive. (I have a lot of those!) A Distant Mirror by Barbara W. Tuchman is a classic narrative non-fiction about the 14th century. (I have it but haven’t read it yet. Hopefully you’ll be able to borrow from your library system if you were interested.) One of my favorite middle grade series is Shiloh - it’s about a boy and his dog (Newberry Prize Winner). One of my major goals for the next few years is to study Shakespeare! I have procured study guides because I need lots of help. But, honestly, a big incentive is to be able to improve my Jeopardy! game! 😂🤷🏻♀️ I look forward to seeing your selections.

Hello~ Many blessings in the New Year. Yes! I'm so glad I was able to get Pearl S. Buck in. Oh my, I cannot believe I made that mistake. And! Thank you for the recommendations. My library actually has Imperial Woman. I think I might try that one. They didn't have any of the other titles you shared. =/ Ooohhhhhhhh, okay, so read a biography on someone like Aleister Crowley. Nodding my head, okay. Thank you for that clarification. That will be a challenge indeed! I'll peruse the biography section of the library. (rubbing my hands together, this will be exciting too). No, my library doesn't have A Distant Mirror. =( Thank you for trying. I think I've read Shiloh to Prometheus, but I don't think we have a copy. I know we have a dog book in the house. LOL It's probably packed. He has a dog book on the bookcase in the living room. I should read that one. He hasn't. mwah haha ooh, much success to you on improving your Jeopardy game by studying Shakespeare. I am working on studying A Christmas Carol on Hillsdale College, (it's free online, so I thought, why not.) Thank you again for your help with the prompts and the clarification and suggestions. I really appreciate it. Keep me posted on your Shakespeare studies. Happy reading.

@ I took that same course on A Christmas Carol last year! I’ve never enjoyed that story much, but it helped me appreciate it more. I currently have their Dante course downloaded but haven’t started it yet. I’ve scheduled myself to study one Shakespeare sonnet a week and one play every two months. I’ll let you know how it’s going - or if it’s going! 🙄🙂

@@nancyegee2804 That's so cool! That's greta to have a plan too. I'm brand new to Hillside. I'm not sure what I'll do after A Christmas Carol. But I need to prioritize learning Greek.
@nancyegee280425 күн бұрын
@@BookZealots I know you watch Rob Pirie’s channel at The Cause too and I saw that he has been learning Greek. If I had it in me, I’d learn Hebrew! There are so many nuances that cannot be translated properly that could give so much more depth of understanding to Biblical texts. I’m planning to read Paradise Lost and take Hillsdale College’s class on that too. Probably not this year though.
@BookZealots25 күн бұрын
@@nancyegee2804 LOL Yes! This is his fault! It had been a desire for years to learn both Hebrew (I can't get the throaty chhhhh, so I don't think that will ever happen), and Greek, but never did much to do so. If I ever get my hands on Paradise Lost, I'd like to take that class on Hillsdale as well. Dennis Prager has three books published on Genesis, Exodus and Deuteronomy. I think he's working on Numbers? And in Genesis I learned the I AM in Hebrew means EXISTS, because if I recall correctly, the actual word doesn't translate or something. Or there isn't a Hebrew word for it? I'll be working on that book this year. Let me know if you start learning Hebrew.

Henry viii is who I absolutely can’t stand. We both know who you’re calling out on the best sellers!!!!!I just don’t have any current published books. I do want the Walter isaacson book on Elon musk. I so glad you did the book bingo video. It helped me in picking for the prompts.
@BookZealots25 күн бұрын
LOL 🤣💗 You gave yourself away. I was going to keep it a secret. 🤗 If you have the same struggles I have getting currently published books, or even books in general, then do what works for you. You know I'm just teasing. Sometimes, the books on the bestsellers lists aren't the new books though and hopefully the books will be available and not stinkers. That's my biggest concern. I don't want to read the stinkers. The NYT and I do not see eye to eye.
@user-iz6cc6lz3j-Vickie25 күн бұрын
@ I usually don’t agree with the best seller lists either. It’s a lot of fluff, romance book genres I’m not interested in. Plus I’m not going too pay new book prices. I know you were teasing me. My cover of the oath between the seas has a boat and a flag on it so it can be used for one of two prompts. Alexander the Great has a hand holding a midevil sword so it can be a weapon prompt. Also for an unread event / person I. History for me. Wartime too I guess. I put it in the weapon prompt. Some prompts are hard !!! It’s fun though trying to get books to fit.

I'm so happy you're playing the bingo challenge with me. It will be challenging, but I'm looking forward to seeing what other readers, like you, come up with and all the prompts you can fit the books into. =) yes! History over fluff.

There’s a children s picture book series about a little pig named Poinsettia. It’s a very cute series. Felicia Bond, I think, is the author. Regarding American disasters-have you heard of the Sultana?
@BookZealots24 күн бұрын
ahh, Poinsettia the Pig. LOL That's cute. THANK YOU ANGIE!!! No, I don't think I have ever heard about the Sultana and my library actually has one book on it! I really appreciate you mentioning this to me. 🤗📚

@ it’s the worst maritime disaster in the US but it’s not very well known because it was overshadowed by Lincoln’s assassination. I learned about it when I toured a cemetery in Memphis.
@BookZealots24 күн бұрын
@@angieandthegreatworld Yes, I looked it up and found a website and youtube video. I was wondering if Mark Twain may have mentioned it in one of his books. I think it was Life on the Mississippi. I think it was a year ago, but the name Sultana doesn't ring a bell. The library book is ya, it's the only book they have, but I'll read it for middle grade march. =D How long ago was your visit to Memphis? I've never been and heard it's a really sketchy town.
