Thank you for this informative video. I will be there from January 22 - 31, find your video in a great timing and it's very helpful. I am planing to do road trip, is it hard to find the parking spot in the major city? And could you please kindly share with us where is the best spot to see the northern lights near Reykjavik? And I know it sounds crazy, but is is possible to do 1 or 2 nights winter car camping for the weather in the end of January

Such a helpful video, thank you! After a few years of dreaming of going to Iceland finally it’s scheduled for the 1st of Jan 2022. Was reading up a lot, but honestly your video just summed up my last 3 hours of research haha. Myself and my husband wanted to rent a car, but I think you convinced us to maybe look into tours instead given the probably challenging weather and of course the 4hrs of daytime per day.I hope we get to see the Northern Lights, it would be a dream come true ❤️

I’m going to Iceland in January too!!! We are renting a car because we’d like to see south of Iceland and stay in an air bnb also the hotels weren’t too intriguing for us so we wanted to be on our own as well.

Went to Iceland last January. Travelled the snaefellsnes peninsula and northern Iceland. In the space of 5 days it went from -4 and heavy ice on the floor to my 3rd day in it was 11c and mild. My last day heavy snow came in and driving the ring road back to Reykjavik. I drove a 2 WD Car on the ring road and it was fine even with the snow drifts. Definitely advise the crampons as it was very slippy. Winter in Iceland is wonderful.

Just finished a short trip to Iceland this January 1 to 6 with my daughter. The weather was not easy at all, I was illed and coughing slot on the way, but we did join 3 individual day trips,trying to see as much as we could. After all, we did find Iceland is a wonderful place to visit, and the people are friendly.

Hi there!!! This video is super helpful! I’m planning to be in Iceland January 26th- February 3rd (so next week) haha. We are renting a car (awd) and will be making way to the Glacier Lagoon / Diamond Beach area. Do you think road conditions will be bad the further we go south east? Trying to catch the northern lights and go ice caving during this time too. Any tip for any of these activities will be great! Thank you for your video! Also, is driving at night bad (are the roads lit?). Sorry for all the questions, might as well throw them all at once in one comment 😬😬😬.

Omgosh sorry one more question. Is droning allowed in Iceland? Perhaps not national parks but any places I should be aware to “not” drone? I guess this is more of an open question for anybody that might know haha 😅

Well we just got back from a Dec 3-8 trip. Went same time last year and it was cccccccold! This year, a bit rainy :( cloud cover and no northern lights. Well drats will just have to go back! BTW we wanted to soooooo badly ditch our parka's, a bit warm
@bunnyj97795 жыл бұрын
That is sad that you did not see the northern lights? were you guys driving or with these tours there? I will be there in end of january, would love to heard more about your winter experience there
@stinkygraykitty68085 жыл бұрын
@Bunny J It was a bus tour. We went the same time the previous year and saw them. Wow prepare for winter weather! Layers, under your parka. Good snow-ish boots, I brought different colored winter hats, you know for pictures lol! Gloves, scarf.....we had fierce winds there. I had always heard about the winds in Iceland, they could almost knock your legs out from under you. I did a bit of scotch guard on the parkas, especially the hoods.....there is snow and rain in Iceland even in January. If you go to Reykjavik, go to the Perlan museum. They have lots of things to see there including an ice cave, sort of like being in a glacier. Let me know if you want more info. :)
@bunnyj97795 жыл бұрын
@ stinkygraykitty Thank you for the kindly reply. Wow, I thought myself is already being prepared for the crazy weather, I gues may be not. I would certainly require for more info about your tripplan And I am actually planning to rent car to drive. Do you know what would be the best option for winter road trip, safety is the #1 piority and I definitely want to get as much info as I can before landing there :)
@stinkygraykitty68085 жыл бұрын
I've not driven there, but I drove and lived 3 years in Germany. Super easy and Iceland looks to be the same. JEANNIE/Iceland with a view did a video on winter driving, take a look at it. There is a few super important tips you seriously need to know. Since it a very rural country, not many places to stop, you are not allowed to pull over on the side of the road, headlights on ALWAYS and seatbelt too, they also have "F" roads, can't drive on those in the winter, they have signs up warning you about the horrible winds ahead, roads closed. The winds whip up the snow and that makes for blizzards and you cant see. Take notes when you watch the video. I would totally drive there, we just happened to take a bus trip each time lol. I hope you are going with a friend or two??
