12:05 My mom's 32-year-old African Grey Kiefer who died last year, would always tell people leaving our house "Buh-Bye" or when we were putting him back in his cage and leaving the "bird room" - an entire bedroom dedicated to Kiefer. It was for more birds in the past(24 years ago) such as cockatiels, parakeets, a Lorikeet(Squirt) and a Quaker Parakeet(Quakerman) but now that all of them have died, it's just for Sunny/Sonny, the replacement African Grey we got from a rescue shelter

Hi Dalton, Tori, and Apollo, You've had wonderful success with keeping your birbs happy and healthy. Apollo especially would be hard to keep entertained, and choosing to explore his capacity to recognise objects and the materials they're composed of has paid off handsomely, with Apollo clearly enjoying the challenge. I'm just worried that attempting to teach him colours might be hampered by the fact that birds see colours differently than humans. Birds have 4 different types of rods (colour detection cells) in their eyes compared to the 3 types of rods humans do. They also see in ultraviolet, which is a part of the colour spectrum humans can't see at all. This leads me to think that sometimes the colour Apollo may see may differ from what we do, so some shades of black to us might be purple to him, or even be a colour we have no word for.

I don't know how long you've had the African grey, but so far you appear to have done a pretty good job. African greys and cockatoos typically should not be kept as pets by anyone, the typical horrible neurotic self-abuse by plucking that does not happen in the wild is proof of that. But yours, at least so far, has retained perfect feathering. I don't know what you're doing, but whatever it is, keep it up, the bird has not yet devolved into a mental patient.
