The Salzkammergut (or Salzburger Land) is a particularly attractive region to visit in Austria. So plan to do a travel walking tour in the most beautiful village in Austria, or hike the Alpine mountains, or swim in beautiful lakes during your next Austria vacation ('Österreich Urlaub' in German). There are so many things to do in Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut region that you don't want to miss.
Gosau is a municipality in the district of Gmunden in Upper Austria, Austria. Gosau is situated along the Gosaubach stream in the Salzkammergut region. It is only a 30 minute drive away from Hallstatt Austria and a much more quiet option than the famous tourist village. Beautiful rolling hills, forests and walking paths invite for hiking in summer. Gosau is also not far away from Salzburg Austria and the drive to Gosau is very scenic, especially if you choose to take the Romantic Route via Bad Ischl. There's also a good bus service available from Salzburg to Bad Ischl and Gosau. The center of the town is at an elevation of 767m (2,516'). 58.9% of the municipality is forested. At the southern end of Gosau there is a road leading to the Vorderer Gosausee, a lake with a view of the Dachstein. Gosau is one of the few Lutheran communities in Austria, with about 71% of the population being Lutheran.

Thank you so much for your vlog. We went here the other day. We went to Gosausee, it was incredible. We did a boat ride for only 16 euros ( 5 people) 30 mins. We did other things as well since we are already at Gosau. We went also to Hallstatt but we were not able to go down and take pictures because the parking was so full. We hiked at Hauser Kaibling ( Schafsinn Rundweg about 6 KM ) together with our kids ages 4, 8 and 10. We saw a lot of sheeps in the mountain.😊 I cannot recommend this trail if you have kids below 8 years old. It is not as easy as Männlichen to Kleine Scheidegg trail in Switzerland that is suitable for all ages. 😊😊😊

Thank you for watching If you come to Gosau, Hallstatt is not that far. It’s about a 30 minute drive away. You may be able to combine the two. But if you’re coming all the way from Vienna, you should ideally spend a night in the Salzburg region. There are so many nice villages and small towns in the area that are all worth seeing: St Gilgen, St Wolfgang, Bad Ischl, Gmunden, Altaussee,… check out my videos on these for more inspiration

Thank you Park at the church and walk up to the small chapel on the hill (the one I show in the video) From there you can follow the path along the forest and head back down to the street which takes you back to the church. Shouldn’t take longer than 45 minutes. Don’t miss out on lake Gosau which is a short drive further up the valley though. It’s a beautiful spot too. Wishing you a great trip.

Thank you. Take bus 180 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl and bus 542 from Bas Ischl to Gosau. It will take a bit over 2 hours to get there

You really did a good job on your Austria videos! How easy is it to visit Gosau from Bad Ischl by public transportation? Is Gosausee within a walking distance from Gosau village? How many hours should I allocate to Gosau and Gosausee? Thank you.

Thank you 😊 I would favor in a full day for both but you could easily spend more time there. There is a bus going from Bad Ischl to Gosau. I suppose you can walk from Gosau to Gosausee but it would be quite a long walk and it’s going uphill. Please also check out my video on Gosausee for some answers to your questions
