It's funny how some Americans are taking the loss so serious over a league that not even the most passionate football fans know exist.

I guess those are the Americans that realize that American Football is not your every day sport in Jpn, while every American parent dreams of their child playing in the NFL. So if they can't even put together a decent u20 team, then something is wrong.

America was basically fielding an AI generated team of random high school players that weren't good enough to get college scholarships. They didn't even have enough time to practice together, they literally just sent in highlight clips and an AI picked the team from those clips. Some of them didn't even use their own film, and a lot of high school JV teams would have had a better showing. I'm honestly shocked they kept the score as close as they did.

It really does baffle me though, there is absolutely no shortage of legitimate power five talent who would have loved to go and play in this game, the only thing that would make this make sense is if there is for some reason a rule that doesn’t allow college commits to play in the game, and if that’s the case than the USA shouldn’t have ever agreed to play in the tournament because that’s a huge handicap for us and only us

Ya'll need to research this. In the U20 heres how our team prepares: Walk Ons are asked to apply. Zoom Interview. Players selected online. Team meets For the first time June 14th. Practice from June 14th-19th. 5 days together. Tournament starts June 20th. Some of our players have Zero football experience. Other teams practice year round and have been together 2-3 years. On a side note, Lakeland High School in Lakeland, Fla (the Dreadnaughts 7-A) would have beaten the Japan National Team 70-0. I dont understand America's thinking on this. Rod Smart, the Pouncy Brothers, Ray Lewis, Ahmad Black, Damarri Mathis, Albert McClellan, Keydrick Vincent, Freddie Mitchell, Desmond Clark, Bilal Powell, Justin Fprsett, Kenny Gant all played in Lakeland. 9 time State Champions and 2005 USA Today/ESPN #1 HS Football team in the Nation.

There isn't a single university in this country that would waste a limited scholarship on an athlete who would risk injury in this meaningless competition, and there's not a single athlete on scholarship that would want to risk that scholarship and potential NFL career on an injury in this meaningless competition (particularly now with NIL). This allows the other countries to throw their top 34 players at our 30,000th ranked players. Not a typo--and that doesn't include any D2 athletes, and there's generally at least a half dozen D2 players drafted in any given year, along with UFAs at camp. This isn't something to cry about. Before anyone overreacts, please hear me out. 1st, my background - I am an American who has lived in Japan for nearly 40 years. I know Japanese culture, language and thinking VERY well. I have been going to watch the Japanese semi-pro X League football games for 15 seasons now. They got good players who play in the CFL, but they are not main players in the CFL, but rather 3rd string and or practice squad members. 2nd - This is an Under 20 international tournament, not a top level tournament. 3rd - This Japanese team consists of a mixture of Japanese kids who have lived most of their lives in the USA, and, American kids who have a Japanese ethnic background, and, are mixed race kids with dual Japanese and American citizenship. Only some on this Japanese team have true blue Japanese citizenship as in Japanese guys born and raised in Japan only. 4th - This so-called American team consists of guys who at best may play at the NCAA division 3 level, but I suspect some or most of them are at the junior college tech level, or, are guys who played high school ball and this is their last rodeo. Seriously, but look at how out of shape some of those guys are and their lack of athleticism. Plus the coaching on the U.S. side is miserable. 5th - In saying all that, the Japanese are getting better at football, period. There is no doubt about it. I suspect it won't be too long to where we will see a Japanese guy from Japan who will play in the NFL. It may or may not happen in my lifetime, but it is coming. I guarantee. it. 6th - The Japanese never give up. Never. One should never under any circumstances underestimate the Japanese, ever. The Japanese could be getting blown out in any kind of sporting event but you would never know it because they never give up until the very end of the game, ever. What that means is that we are witnessing live from year to year, decade to decade how the Japanese have been getting better and better at football. Decades ago it was just a dream of the Japanese to have a Japanese citizen to play in the NFL and now it is becoming a reality. Again, it will happen, but it is just a matter of time. 6th - If the U. S. had put a respectable team out there on the field, we would see different results. But the fact of the matter is that the U.S. is hodge podge at best and the Japanese team looked really good at this Under 20 level. They looked sharp, practiced, serious, and ready to play. The U.S. looked abysmal. Yet, in saying that despite the U.S. being a ragtag team, they still scored 20 on a better Japanese team. 6th - So what does that mean? It means, as I said before, that that Japanese have CERTAINLY improved at playing football over the years, but I can guarantee that if the U.S. had put a well organized, well-coached USA team out there that the U.S team would win handily. There is not question about it. But, it is what it is and the Japanese are taking this tournament (as all tournaments of any sport ) seriously and the U.S. is not. Japan deserved this win and the U.S. had better re-think their approach to any internamtional tournament that we play in. ( I am sick and tired of the U.S. putting out an inferior product when it comes to football, baseball to give the opposing teams a leg up. It is frankly nauseating. )

I disagree. These players are ranked behind 30,000 scholarships in FCS and FBS, who don't play because it risks the scholarship. Most American players didn't even have a D2 scholarship. Meanwhile Japan is sending their top 34 or so best players in a country of 125 million. And they have sumo, so they know how to play on the lines.
