To understand the significance of this game and why Greatest College Team was mentioned by the poster. This is the Rice Bowl (X league champ vs Kansai Colligiate champ). Due to the game's obscurity in Japan, Pro/Semi- Pro teams (X-league) are pitted against college teams for this national title. Needless to say, that is like putting a college football team against an NFL team (ex: Florida Gators vs Green Bay Packers). As you can imagine, the record between leagues are skewed heavily against the college teams. College wins are extremely rare. Because of this, the college underdog is usually rooted for by Japanese viewers. In the last decade there has only been one college team winner, the most recent victory in 2009, 6 years ago by this same school. The description shows this being the 2003 team, which managed to win the following year in 2004 with the same players. Due to the rarity of victories and back to back championships, this college team is known as one of the legendary team hence the title "Japan College Football Greatest Team" Context man, helps you appreciate the video. you're watching true magic here =]

nubstars This video shows the college team win 2003 which managed to go back to back with another win in 2004 with the same players. Only one other team has won the rice bowl again- (The same school diff team in 2009). Since then no college team has ever won a Rice Bowl. These are the only victories by a Japanese college team in 13 years all within the same school. Ritsumeikan Panthers is a powerhouse among college teams. The Kansai Gakuen Fighters is another one, however their last victory was in 2002 and thy have lost their last 5 appearances.

nubstars Some members of this legendary 2003, 2004 team will be playing in the IFAF Japanese National Football team for 2015. Takada is the quarterback in this video and in the article selected for the team. It is near the bottom. Note there is only one college player (RB). the-japan-news.com/news/article/0002239649

Gridiron currently has provisional Olympic status; it could become an event sport as early as 2024, though Tom Brady will have retired by then.

There is a currently seven nation American Football World Cup, the IFAF World Championship that started in 1999, the next one is slated to take place in 2023 in Australia. Japan dominated it until the US started competing in 2007. America is not allowed to use pro-players however and they need to be out of college for at least a year so the rules keep pro-level American players from competing otherwise it would be an utter blowout since there are no other countries with players competing on that level. Even with decent amateurs the US has not lost a game in it yet. I can't really see the Olympics going for it unless the US similarly agrees to using amateurs because an American "Dream Team" would be like the NFL playing highschool kids. Basketball happened because it is way more popular internationally than Gridiron.

What would it be called lol olmypics already has soccer and it's called football in Olympics so they cant have 2 football events. And calling it "american" football wouldnt work for the Olympic committee

Interesting fact about the Japanese X-League is that it’s comprised of three divisions named X1, X2, and X3 respectively. There’s a promotion/relegation system between the divisions, with a catch: the team at risk of relegation can retain its status by defeating the champion of the lower division in a challenge match.

The Japanese rock when it comes to sports. They play all major sports and have even embraced American sports (football, lacrosse, baseball) unlike many countries who don't take those sports seriously.

As it stands right now, I don't think that the best collection of professional Japanese players could beat even an average American college team, but Japan will get better as the years go by. I'm currently in the process of joining the US Marines, and I hope to get shipped to Japan someday so that I can coach American Football and accelerate the process of the Japanese being able to play in America.

@koreanational It just struck me as odd, because in the U.S. our college and NFL games are off the ground. In high school (where I currently play) we're allowed to use a tee up to 2".
@pudgylumpkins14 жыл бұрын
@koreanational I mean for field goals, not for kickoffs, American College Football teams don't use blocks for field goals. I was wondering because it looked like on the PAT's there was a block.
