When I visited in March, Tokyo weather was wonderful, Kyoto and Osaka were rainy most of the time of my visit. It really cut short of my curiosity of exploring both locations. I was staying inside most of the time.

Sad to see the Pasmo Passport to be discontinued. I’ve used that card from my last trip and kept it as a souvenir! At least, Welcome Suica is still available, I can add that one to the souvenir list! And thank you for the info on the Greater Tokyo Pass, that’s something convenient I’m going to consider for the upcoming trip I plan to visit on October!

Thanks for your introduction,I am planning to use the greater Tokyo pass to travel around Tokyo. The new version uses electronic tickets, but unlike Osaka which uses QR Code, if it will be troublesome to enter and exit the door without a service desk.

Nice video as always! Some questions about the "Greater Tokyo Pass": 1) JR lines are excluded (as with the "Tokyo Metro Pass"), right? 2) on the site are specifically listed 13 "valid lines": does this mean that not all lines from the partecipating companies are useable, but only a few of them? Are the specific lines only listed to make examples or it is really so limited?? It should be "all trains for the partecipating companies in the area listed" or not? 3) "Automatic ticket gates cannot be used"? is it right? 4) Price now seems to be 7,200 for adult and 3,600 for child 5)This pass does not cover limited express ticket. To ride one, you must pay a surcharge for a limited express ticket (reserved seat ticket) The english version of the site is VERY CONFUSING... considering this is a pass for foreign tourists... it is not a good thing... 😅 Please clarify this!

I landed 7 - 27 and just bought a passmo for my son at the airport and he travels with 50% discount, our other 2 passes where from 2018 and 2019 everything just worked fine I dont understand why there was a passmo passport in the first place.

@@Toshi-Guide-from-Japan I see, they look nice for children but in the end I payed some money for it but they charged the card next year i will use them again it is really handy I just dont understand the hussle with multiple station with the same tracks and buying extra tickets + using IC/Passmo when going to Nikko

If the prices for foreigners go too high, you will stop a lot of people from coming. That may be the reason to prevent tourism, which is not a step in the right direction as it sends a very bad signal to people who may be travelling on a budget or cost-aware-LIKE ME! I have a friend who has been to Japan a few times already (an actual travel agent) with her teenage son. She is travelling there again next year with other relatives, so I'll get firsthand information from her about things.

I think the problem is the weak yen. The yen is down so much versus the dollar, that everything is super cheap for tourists. Flights are still incredibly expensive, but once you’re there, everything’s cheap. But Japan has lower wages, while experiencing inflation. The rich foreigners are only making it worse for them. They can’t raise their prices in response to inflation because then no citizens could afford it. They could offer a locals discount, while raising prices though. This way, they can still stay in business while also allowing continued service to locals. It’s a difficult thing to deal with, and there’s no way to avoid hurting someone.

Regarding the Greater Tokyo Pass. The website has pictures of the PASMO Passport as if it it the pass for the Greater Tokyo Pass (from August 1) with availability at Narita and Haneda airports. The pass does not covers trains and busses run by JR so you would still have to pay for JR lines. Only people who know which lines are not JR will be able to calculate if the 7200 JPY is worth it for 5 days. I quickly realised I could never run up that much travel that fast! I prefer a transport/shopping card with a refund (ie 10 year SUICA)

This year, from August 10th to August 18th is the summer vacation period for Japanese. Please make sure to make a reservation for the Shinkansen.You may not be able to ride it.

I recommend you go to a konbini and get these wetwipes called Bioré Zero Cool. They make your skin feel a lot less muggy

@@Euroimports The imperial palace in central Tokyo has fairly quiet forest trails. We were there on tanabata (July 7), a big holiday, and paradoxically it was quiet because everyone went to festivals in other places.

My friend… 4 time the price for himeji castel?… is too much, i dont think is a good idea, but if for the same price you have a tour guide, i can understand that. For restaurants are the same thing…. Maybe after that’s tourist go to konbini to eat and rise up the price too?.

@@Toshi-Guide-from-Japan I can understand how feel the people, but if this is a standard, Howe can grow economy ?… tourism go down. Now the people can find jobs to touristic places, but for example… himeji have only the castel and the garden after that’s tourist go to Kobe or Okayama 100% … and the city can grow up, hotel restaurants, and all services for tourists are in pain ( what i think about that)

I have been to Japan many times, and will be back again next week. I will never pay double or 4 times for anything! My recommendation Is that people research before buying the Shinkansen passes as well, you need to be moving around a lot for It to be worth It, especially the 7 day one. Any establishment that engages In punitive pricing deserves to loose revenue In sales!

Just got back today. Unless you pick an exceptionally offbeat attraction, you can expect to spend a long time standing in line under the sun. Most places aren't worth it. If you think TeamLabs is offbeat, you will be joining a line of a thousand other tourists who thought the same thing. We passed by at 9pm (by coincidence) and there was still a long line. Everything sells out immediately, be there at the crack of dawn.

@@marilynturcotte5304 it's still enjoyable, just plan on plenty of breaks. We went to coffee shops to cool off every hour with iced coffees and also chilled in the hotel room when it was too hot.

Sad. We went to TeamLabs Planets on June 12th. It was crowded inside, but no line. The covered outdoor line existed, but I guess maybe it’s for the morning before they open? Or it’s there to help funnel in the people waiting for their time slot to be announced. I don’t know. We just walked in. They still had us go through it, but no line. Japan does have long lines for some things, but unlike in the states, the line actually moves, and doesn’t stop. Customs at the airport was the worst, but still, it kept moving, constantly.

I would say that the "foreigner pricing" is rather a "non-japanese speaker" pricing. Like tour in Japanese being 1000 yen while tour in English would be 2000 yen which makes sense to certain level as they have to staff a decent English speaker as a guide. With restaurants it is probably same everywhere I would assume. Like they are ridiculously overpriced and live of tourists who have no idea how much it should cost (think of a lowest grade wagyu priced as top grade). So while it is scamy it is not like someone who lives in the area would enter the place. You might know a restaurant like that where you live, I certainly do have one near where I live.

Having been to japan in may for the second time I have noticed that (especially the big cities) have changed a lot, and not for the better.. it's becoming more and more westernized and too crowded with tourists.. I have heard that japan is trying to increase tourism, but then increases touristprices? I personally don't really care about that because it's still cheap to visit these attractions, but can imagine that some will be put off by this 🤔 Also have noticed how toxic most tourists are to each other in japan.. that was no fun to witness either 😅

I think it’s fair to charge tourists more, 1 the yen is really low right now. 2 they can invest in stuff to manage the over tourism. I’m going to Japan next week and I’m very excited! Your videos help a lot, I have my pasmo cards (the normal card) from 4 years ago so I’m lucky because I heard about the card shortage

If you dine with locals, throw in a 10,000 yen note for the meal. To us, $60 in a big city is not much but to them it is like $100 and helps reduce their burden.
