i like that japanese invokes tourism, but i always wanted to have longer visa periods. what would really be awesome is, if you could workr emotely from your country, but live in japan. basically it'd be a total win for japan. because all the money you earn in germany would directly flow to japan. my job would maybe even allow this, they're a bit picky with security requirements, but if you bargain enough it could work. but in japan, you still need a visa to live their, even if you can already buy a house, even without a long-term visa (as I've heard) but there is no visa i could take to live there for a longer period of time. the normal tourist visa can expanded to 180 days at MAX, the holiday worker visa requires you to actually work in japan, and the family visa requires you to marry a japanese girl... which is... THE dream, but easier said than done, it's not like they're stacked in 100 yen shops 😆 i even looked at the investors visa, which says you need to invest a minimum of like 30.000 or 50.000€, which is doable, but you also need to actively participate in the management of the company so... nah... i wonder if this will ever be possible. maybe this is not the kind of tourism they'd want.

@@Toshi-Guide-from-Japan mmhm i don't know it's like the extended standard visa, i think the standard visa can be extended to 180 days, so also 6 month. it might be a bit more convenient. when applying for... but i think that's the best you can get without immigrating. and i think even a double citizenship is not possible, so living for multiple years in japan while working from germany really seems to be impossible :/ except if you marry a japanese girl or actively manage a japanese company.

Just came back from a trip end of 2024….and yeah….many places especially in Kyoto are overcrowded, you’re literally bunching up with people to lineup, and 90% of restaurants are either fully booked or not receiving customers. I’m all for Japan welcoming visitors, as I love the culture and food…but truthfully, Japan’s handling of overcrowding needs to be better managed. Japan simply doesn’t YET have all the enough resources to cater for the massive boom in tourism. Many places are either stuck with outdated systems or are simply just too cramped up to cater for influxes of 1000s of people passing through. It has been an eye opener though, my last few trips centred around the mega cities. Next time I get the chance, I’ll try exploring some of the quieter towns and more rural areas which are far more unique.

unpopular opinion from a japan resident since 2o14. do not let more tourists in. limit it to a number and cap it there. not only do misbehaving tourists make it to the news, making japanese believe ALL foreigners are like that (like, an american does something means ALL countries are like that), but even stores that used to be normal even BEFORE COVID where there were s lot of tourists, now target to tourists on some of their floors, to make money. they did not do it even in 2o19, only recently since the end of 2o23. applies to big cities like tokyo, osaka, kyoto, yokohama. many tourists also let food get more expensive. yes, in big cities it is more expensive. here in tokyo, you have different prices depending where in the ward you are. it used to be different. again, all started with overtourism in the end of 2o23. and overtourism doesn't help the weak yen, either. you say japan is cheap... well, that's good for you, due to the yen weakness. for regular employees, it has bekome freaking expensive because YOU bring the money, so they raise prices to make money from YOU, making it harder for locals to buy due to price surges.

How do you ensure, not only misbehaving tourists enter before capping the amount? Better make them understand the importance of rules and culture!
@ManachanJapan22 күн бұрын
@@christianfriedrichs people will misbehave. and with the weak yen, flights are more affordable so more people without any interest are coming. it's TRENDY to be here. and since the pandemic, it seems like most of the world population lost their manners when travelling abroad. it's common sense not to do the things they do. it's not OK to play monkey at religious places, dance in the subway in ANY country. people just do not care any more. again, it started AFTER the pandemic. and overtourism brings more of those people. cap means, having less people coming aka less misbehaving people as well. also, less people will slow down price increases, because again, those crayz price spirals started WITH OVERTOURISM. because, tourists are willing to pay. locals can't. big cities already feel like venice. we do not need that. i am sorry for all nice tourists, who are saving up years and years to finally visit. but overtourism does not benefit the country. no. there has to be a healthy relationship between locals and tourists, and it has gotten out of hand. we are not europe, where people can spread easily. japan is over 4o years behind in society and structure. japan needs time to get used to masses. things that might take 5 years in the us or europe will take twice or three times as long here.

It's good to see improvements in technology and digitalisation. Relying on tourism is a good short-term strategy but depending on over-tourism it already inflates prices of food, property and soon train tickets for the locals let alone doubling the tourism as many locals are already struggling. Also, cultural erosion, after all, cultural draw attracts foreigners therefore capping tourism and even reducing the rate now, amongst other issues. Diversification and primary focus to encourage the growth of other industries such as tech, education, or manufacturing. Investing heavily in technology can help address major issues, such as supporting the aging population and improving productivity. Retaining local talent, as many skilled workers are leaving instead of doubling tourism, could phase out eventually. The aim should be Sustainable Tourism, long-term viability over increasing an already over-tourism situation and that tourism benefits are distributed equitably among local communities. Over -tourism, won't revive the "bubble era" and make Japan great again, technology & innovation would contribute towards it like the previous bubble era with local tourism

If you are playing to go use the train system a lot from the city side of Tokyo to Nara, Nagoya, Kyoto, and Osaka, this is a must. If you are planning to do a lot of traveling that requires a lot of use of the JR system this is a must. Unless if you are planning to stay in one region like Kanto; there is a region pass that costs less; but Metros can also be a substitute based on where you actually want to travel. So you have to buy the JR Pass that covers Green Cars which are used for reservations.

no worries.. though it cost $990 for my 14 days green card pass.. i still paid for it.. its a way to enjoy my holidays. the non green car is crowded as i went pass last 2023 which i never regret getting the green pass.

if you like fewer tourists, visit areas that are not that public. rural areas. win-win. as i experienced the tourists, they'# just crowd tokyo, kyoto and osak, those cities did already not exist for me 😆

@@mariatolentino4516 hokkaido is definitely on my list, but isn't kushiro rather big and thus not rural? i was rather thiking of cities like shinshiro with 40k inhabitants, nikko with 80k and takehara with just 23k inhabitants.

@@Kokujou5 I guess it might have looked rather empty then because it was very early in the morning. I had a great time though, and none of the stress that I get from Tokyo and Osaka. I took a night bus from Sapporo, so it was an adventure. Nobody spoke English at my hotel by Lake Akan

Attracting more tourists and then complaining and punishing them with taxes don't sound like a great plan. The government should add more buses, trains and hire more sanitation workers instead.

Tourist taxes... eesh. I thought Japan, like any country, would be glad of tourist spending..but taxing them for the honour... Japan is beautiful and diverse, a really gem, but prices are high already. Respect to you, thank you for the video.

If they use some of these increases in prices to double the number of trains then no problem. But let’s be honest the money will go nowhere. Have you tried taking the Sapporo airport train recently. People are already standing in the reserved cars with the staff scratching their heads as what to do.

Haha 😂 😂 😂 those numbers are very low for such an amazing country like Japan. Here in Spain we had 85 million tourists (310 thousand from Japan) in 2023. The small Mediterranean islands alone had 11 million, so you guys have a lot of room to grow. As a recommendation, you can copy Cyprus, where the government built the new tourist infrastructure outside the cities to separate them from the residential areas.

i think Japan should not apply the taxes as tourism is the only way to help the Japanese economy. People are shipping in Japan as it’s tax -free. If there will be an increase in prices , especially on food, the will sacrifice on the quality which Japan is known for. They should be strict on implementing their rules in respecting their tradition. They can apply tourism yen on the number of room nights. I’m from the UAE and this is what they are doing to keep the economy better

At the moment the yen is weakening, which in turn means that tourists from the "civilized" world have the opportunity to visit Japan. These "tourists" who are now attacking Japan don't have a particularly good reputation even at home. Tourists who belong to a particular ethnic group that already have an extremely bad reputation in the USA are particularly negatively affected. The so-called “internet influencers” have an even worse reputation. The worst tourists come from the USA, Canada, Australia, Central and South America, Ireland and England. Sorry for my negative attitude about foreign tourists, I live in close proximity to a tourist hotspot and what I have to see almost daily, animals in the wild, have more behavior.
