Hi there railfans, welcome back to the channel.
Todays video features a good variety of trains. It all starts in Japan and then via Florida we end up in New York, Long Island to be precise.
The first 2 trains you will see are two variants of the Rapid Train between Tokyo and Narita, Japan.
The first train consists of 6 cars and has no first class cars. These are of the 209-2100 class and are operated by JR East since 2009.
The second train is an 11 car and a 4 car consist with 2 first class bi-level cars. This particular train is also coming from Tokyo and is approaching Narita station. They are operated by JR East and can reach a speed of 125km/h or 75mph. They are in use since 1994.
These Rapid trains depart every 10 minutes during rush hr and stop at every station on its way. It is a cheaper alternative to the Narita Express which you will see next.
Trains 3 and 4 are the Narita Express trains. The seats on this train have to be reserved to travel and it takes about 1 hour from Tokyo to Narita. They are also operated by JR East since 2009. The service departs every 30 minutes and is mostly nonstop except for rush hour when it has e few stops in between but not nearly as many as the Rapid trains. The E259 series train can reach a speed of 130km/h or 81mph.
Next up are some trains in Florida.
First up is the Amtrak 91, New York - Miami, passing Blue Spring state park. This is the common consist for the last few months. 2 GE P42DC’s for power, 3 coach cars with a cafe car and a diner car with 2 sleeper cars to top it of with a baggage car.
Then the Amtrak 53 Auto Train from Lurton VA to Sanford FL. This was a bit of a short-ish train, the last few times I’ve seen it it had 3 more passenger cars and about 8 more auto cars. But as a bonus it had a 3rd engine, one of my favorites, a GE Dash8. The first 2 engines are the regular GE P40DC,s.
Next up are 2 SunRail trains for the weekday service between DeBary and Poinciana. The trains engines are MPI MP32PH-Q locomotives.
Amtrak 97 Silver Meteor, New York - Miami, had an extra coach car today and the second engine was in the Phase 4 Heritage colors, the first engine is in the Phase 5 colors which is the latest for the GE P42’s.
Now up to Long Island.
I had no idea that there are so many trains running between NY city and the Eastern parts of the Island.
These trains are shot at Carle Place station and there are three branches passing through the station but only on branch stops here. The Port Jefferson branch stops here and the Ronkonkoma- and Montauk branch pass through. I do not have any destination info for the trains passing through. There are too many in a short time span and the schedules are not the easiest to read but if you need more info you can check out “new.mta.info” for the time tables.
You will see 6 trains come by in a relatively short period.
The 1st is an EMU built by Bombardier between 1999-2006.
2nd is a diesel electric train with 2 EMD DM30AC’s, delivered 1997-1999, these are Diesel engines that can also run on just electricity from a 3rd rail. I believe this is done to get access to Penn Station.
3rd, 4th and 5th are EMU’s built by Kawasaki from 2019 on.
And finally one of the diesel trains with a cab car in front built by Kawasaki and the engine is an EMD DE30AC, diesel only.
That’s it for today railfans. I sure hope you enjoyed watching this video as much as I enjoyed making it.
