Seaweed has long been a staple food in Japan. But the chunky, slimy kelp hauled into fishermen’s boats is also starting to attract international attention for its potential as an eco-friendly supercrop. Research is flourishing into new applications for the marine plant - from carbon absorption to reducing methane emissions from cattle. Other countries are looking to Asia’s seaweed savvy to develop their own industries.

My condolences to the family of Mr. Shinzo Abe, a truth Japanese 🇯🇵 and world leader. He was a fierce defender of democracy and Japan's allies including Taiwan 🇹🇼 by allowing troops to fight overseas. - His speeches often angered the authoritarian surveillance regime amid his outspoken against the Chinese expansionism 🇨🇳.

If whatever (pollution, climate change, human activity etc) that caused the seaweed to recede in the first place isn't fixed how does planting more help. If conditions are right/healthy the seaweed will spread by itself.

When the Philippines🇵🇭 sued China🇨🇳 to the Hague Tribunal in 2016, it described how Chinese fishermen destroyed coral reefs in the South China Sea. - They used propeller attached to their ships to pull up coral reefs in order to harvest giant clams, an endangered species.
